WE HAVE AN UPDATE!

"Hi BSR Family!

This is Marlin with my long overdue update. I was found running and wandering, wearing my underground fence collar. I didn't have any identifying information and I wasn't chipped. The shelter called BSR and you guys were awesome and took me into care. I was heartworm positive and a little underweight from my adventures. I found my way to my forever family and I am living my best life! Who knew just how fun life could be?! Car rides and boat rides are two of my favorite things.I'm always first in line for both of those adventures. If I'm not on an adventure, my days are filled with exploring the farm and working my "patrols." I like to be sure there are no unwelcome visitors on MY land. There is a blue heron that lives on my pond and we play a fun game of chase several times a day. I know he enjoys it too because he always comes back for more! When I'm not chasing the heron or working patrols, I take care of my special Springer sister, Amy the Dog. We became best friends shortly after I joined the family. Now that she is an older lady, I enjoy taking care of her. I go outside with her to make sure she stays close by and I make sure she has a good spot on the bed. My mom says I'm very patient with her, because she can be a handful. You know how those Springers are! My bestest, most special talent is welcoming the new Boykin fosters that we get. I like to show them the ropes and help them navigate the politics of the house. I know how overwhelming it felt when I first joined my family so I work hard to make the new guys feel welcome and comfortable. I help my humans teach the fosters "good dog manners" so they can eventually live their best lives with their forever families too! Thanks again to all the mighty fine folks at BSR for all your hard work to make our little brown dreams come true!

WE HAVE AN UPDATE!
"We understood from Miller's foster parents that he was fearful of strangers – both two- and four-legged – and were warned to let him make the first approach. We were all surprised when he immediately hopped up on the ottoman in between us and was completely comfortable -- something that had never happened before. We were hoping he'd choose us and he did!
We knew Miller was smart and took to training like a champ. In a few short months, his personality did a complete 180-degree turn and now, everyone’s his friend! It has been an exciting year; too many things to mention but he especially loves playing with his canine friends on Pawleys Island and swimming in the creek and ocean, going for rides in the golf cart, celebrating last Christmas with 12 human and seven canine family members and his 3rd birthday in June, and playing with his feline brother Benjamin.
Miller is our sweet, often goofy Velcro LBD. We love him and couldn’t imagine our lives without him!"

WE HAVE AN UPDATE!

"We are celebrating BSR #1404 gotcha day again! We can’t thank BSR or the Foster Family enough for taking care of Wylie and choosing us to be his forever home. We try to read his BSR tag every day and remind him that he is special.
The description of Wylie on the rescue page was 100% correct, he is such an affectionate, loyal companion who always wants to be right beside (or on) his humans. We have nicknamed him Barnacle Bill, but sometimes he is Mr. Woo-Woo when he is being silly and spunky, and when he’s a little too smart his proper English Prep School name is Wiles.
It’s also true what was written about how well Wylie walks on a leash, it is a breeze for him, and it is such a pleasure to go walking with him that it’s the first thing we do almost every morning. And speaking of running like a gazelle, Wylie just got invited to the AKC Fast CAT Invitational for being the 4th fastest Boykin Spaniel in 2023.
Wylie has been with us for 2 years now, and he said to tell you he is very happy. His Boykin stepsister says she is tolerating him (but we know she secretly enjoys his company).
Together we have traveled several thousand miles, all over Florida, and from Florida we have stopped all along the way to New Mexico to look for roadrunners!
Needless to say, life with Wylie has been such a joy! We feel so blessed to have been given the wonderful gift of becoming Wylie’s forever home. Thank you to BSR and all the volunteers who provide this special breed with the love and care they deserve.

It's Christmas Eve! Time for the annual telling of "'Twas the Night Before a Boykin Spaniel Christmas!". This video includes photos from all the Boykin community and has become a cherished tradition. We wish you all a wonderful holiday!

As we begin the long Christmas weekend, we would like to thank you for your love and support this year! Enjoy this special time with those you love most! Please enjoy this video, from all the dogs we have cared for this year!

Don't know about you, but I needed a mid-week pick me up. BSR Alum Walt (Uncle Walt) never disappoints! Warning- tissue alert! Bio: A senior that had strayed from wherever he had come from, Walt found himself in a southern shelter. He had heartworms and an apparent injury to his forearm that needed orthopedic evaluation. Curiously, xrays revealed that sometime in his former life, before finding himself in a shelter, Walt had had an injury or congenital deformity that had necessitated pins in his elbow. Unfortunately, the repair had deteriorated, and he was left in a great deal of pain and a poorly functioning forearm. Surgical repair was impossible due to the condition of the joint, and veterinary orthopedic specialists who evaluated him advised that Walt would have a significantly improved quality of life if his front leg were amputated at the shoulder so he could be pain free and completely mobile. Indeed, Walt immediately adapted to being a "tripod" after years of pain and mobility issues. In fact, he found a love of being on the water with his fosters! He was an extremely affectionate dog that enjoyed just about anything his fosters wanted to do if it meant he could be by their sides! Luckily, some adopters LOVE seniors, and Walt hit the jackpot with a family that has other dogs to go do the busy work of playing and retrieving, while he soaks up the love and attention from his family in his laid back, loving way. They also live on the water, so Walt has been able to indulge his love of the water as copilot to his dad on their boat! FAST FORWARD..... Walt was adopted, and he is living an amazing life! He now has a prosthetic leg! Here is an update from his adopter: "This is only the fourth day working with the new leg and adjusting it for the correct length, but Walt is getting very strong and learning to use it. 3D Pets said some dogs take up to 30 days to even move with it. He is way ahead of the game! Our pictures from the day of adoption to present
