Where to begin with the gratitude and honour. Sigourney and Jack were PVCA fosters and adopted as foster fails giving their dog Leo an incredible life. Sigourney has written a children’s book in his honour drawing awareness to the importance of rescue and fostering, but also to the kindness that reactive dogs seek. This is a great gift to expose children young to this kindness. Available on amazon:

Thank you Sigourney and Jack for your kindness and support as fosters and adopters, and in sharing awareness needed for reactive dogs.

Princess should have been named Shadow as she just wants to follow you around for cuddles wherever and whenever she can get affection. We'd love for her dream to come true so she could be the centre of someone’s world. Princess is 5 years old and low energy. She'd prefer to sunbathe than to venture too far on walks. She lived life on the streets and isn't keen to go back. She does like a soft toy to roll around in the grass with. Princess is dog selective and with her love for affection we think she'd like to be an only dog - though she does like to play with her shelter bestie (a big Husky cross).

We think Princess might be a bull terrier x boston terrier – more the size of a Boston Terrier at under 40 lbs. Princess had eye surgery to remove one eye but gets on just fine without it. She is a smart girl that is easy and keen to please. She will figure out just about anything, including how to climb fences! When Princess was first rescued she was not keen on cats, but she’s been practising and visits the cat area regularly now with calm and poise. She is spayed, healthy and vaccinated. She would just like to find a loving lap, and she’ll happily sunbathe and warm your heart.

If you think you might be a fit, we’d love to hear from you at [email protected]. Please check your junk mail for our response. Princess is in shelter at our sister sanctuary in Puerto Vallarta and can fly to BC (note that certain airlines will not fly her breed :( so we may need some time to flexibly get the flight we need, but we think she's worth it)

A very special thank you to Jenny and her dog Olive for fostering Cappuchina. Cappuchina is an AMAZING dog… she was just as amazing in Mexico but while she was in shelter she had only one application. She arrived into foster in Victoria and within a week we had many enquiries and some great applications. We are always looking for foster homes and we also offer foster to adopt. We can’t wait to share more about her happy ever after! It’s perfect!!

Throughout the year we collect donations of toys, collars, harnesses, leashes, medical supplies etc and send them down to our SPCA PV sanctuary. To watch the dogs derive some joy from the toys is absolutely heartwarmimg - one loved a new kong soccer ball so much he would wait at his kennel door with it gently in his mouth, sleeping next it it; others who aren’t usually as playful would roll on the grass at the pleasure of something so simple, even tossing toys to themselves. One longer term resident will run out, father them up and lay them beside his bed. Where you have donations we do accept drop offs in East Vancouver, North Vancouver, Victoria and Kamloops. Message us for drop offs near you.

💥ADOPTION ALERT: STUNNING LONG AND LEAN AVAILABLE 💥

Meet Freddie - 65lbs of energy, vital life force and joy
Birthday: Not quite sure but some time in October of 2024
Weight: A looooong and lean 65lbs
Currently in Foster in Nelson, BC

Who is he?
- an eager to please, clever goofball
- extremely smart
- food motivated
- playful & enthusiastic
- FAST! this boy can run!
- Loves routine!

Skills include:
- did we mention he is FAST! He would be GREAT at agility
- 10/10 on the cuddle scale
- a bit like a house alarm, will bark to alert you (with positive reinforcement he knows to cease
when instructed)
- 10/10 on bringing joy and enthusiasm to all things in life
- plays well with other dogs after proper introduction
- loves to learn and work
- good with horses, chickens and cats

Work in Progress includes:
- can be reactive with new dogs if not introduced properly
- shy
- his early life in the shelter has caused him to be wary of strangers but once he knows you,
he warms right up
- trust is earned with Freddie, not given automatically

Ideal home:
- ideally with a doggie sibling who will tolerate his playful puppy-ness but could be an only dog
as long as he had regular play dates
- he loves routine
- rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of city life
- fenced outdoor space he can safely explore
- people who will worship him and make him feel safe and loved
- humans with experience with shy dogs who can boost his confidence
- a life that offers adventure and allows him to grow into the amazing dog he is becoming
- a home willing to continue his raw feeding

Medical Flex:
- he is healthy, raw fed and has delayed neuter to allow his growth plates to close

Freddie’s Dream:
Find a human who loves him as much as he loves to run! Someone who will be patient with
him as he finds his way and overcomes “stranger danger” and loves to cuddle on the couch.

No longer accepting applications

This is Billie and he is adoptable. He is about 5 years old, good with cats, dogs and people AND house trained. Seems like the kind of fluff ball that just might attract quite a bit of attention. Which he deserves! Billie is a wee lad at just 8 lbs. Photos were taken just after a hair cut - but he's now sporting more of a fluffy look. He is in foster in Puerto VAllarta with flight options to BC and Alberta. For enquiries or an application email [email protected] or go direct to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

Jimina is looking for a foster or adoptive home. She’s a one year old whippet x lab weighing in at 30 lbs (pictures can be deceiving!). She is lean and fast, but also happy to chill by your feet. She’s not a barker but joyful for any opportunity to meet strangers for some love. She is good with cats and playful with dogs. Watching her zoom is bound to bring you joy. She is healthy, spayed and ready for a real home. She’d love to hear from you at [email protected]

PUPDATE - Ginny (a picture worth a thousand words)!
This picture tells a story that began when a black dog was taken into the SPCA PV with her puppies, and named Virginia. Virginia (who later became Ginny) was a timid girl and she was in the shelter far too long. She was very lucky to get a foster spot, where she then attracted the attention of her wonderful family in North Vancouver, who patiently worked to build her confidence and trust. They adapted to her needs and have been an incredibly devoted family. They never thought she would be an office dog, but even their office mates went slowly to give her the feeling of safety. Hard to believe but Ginny is now an office dog AND a family dog. We are proud of Ginny, and we are grateful that she found such a wonderful family.

Princess should have been named Shadow because she just wants to be by your side for as many cuddles as you'll offer. She loves people, super affectionate. She doesn't like to go far on walks, but happy to bask in the sun. Princess had an eye removed but gets on just fine. Princess is in our sister sanctuary in PV, and we'd love to find her a real home. Flight options are more limited as some airlines won't fly certain breeds or mixes. But she'd sure like a real life of her own. She has become accustomed to cats. She is dog selective, and really would love to be the centre of someone's universe

Princess is named in the hope that she will one day be the centre of someone’s world. Princess is 5 years old and low energy. What Princess wants more than anything else is to sit in your lap for all day cuddles making up for lost time. We think Princess might be a bull terrier x boston terrier – more the size of a Boston Terrier at under 40 lbs. Princess had eye surgery to remove one eye but gets on just fine without it. She is a smart girl that is easy and keen to please. Princess would love a home in PV as unfortunately most airlines won’t fly her breed. Manchas, Pimienta and Berna. The world is very new to them, and they'd love a quiet home to slowly and safely explore what real love is!

Sweet little Nia is looking for a home. She is a young Chihuahua mix weighing 15 lbs who's had a hard life. With some time safely in rescue, she has really blossomed. She walks nicely on leash, shares space with puppies, and has the CUTEST bum wiggles when she sees you. She's going to make someone very happy. She has a beautiful sleek coat. She is spayed and vaccinated. Aside from some teeth discoloration (a side effect of the virus she fought and beat), she is healthy and ready to jump into your lap. Nia has flight options to a home near you (she is currently in our sister sanctuary in Puerto Vallarta). Message us at [email protected] for an application

Registered Charity that stands by our dogs for life

Federally registered in Canada since 2012, PVCA Animal rescue finds loving homes in Canada for dogs looking for a second chance in life. A sister charity to the SPCA PV in Puerto Vallarta, we rely on our dedicated volunteers to support the transition of these dogs on their journey to happiness in Canada. These dogs were failed in the past - abused, neglected, abandoned, but with the kindness of strangers, they have this chance. We rely entirely on donations and the kindness and dedication of our volunteers and those committed to adopting.
