Welcome Asha to a new life on Vancouver island.

Asha once helped herd goats with other dogs. She was taken to an SPCA PV spay and neuter clinic and not picked up. She’s a smart calm girl but sure was a scary trip. Thabks to Hayley Pavlic and her friends for being her flight angel, and to Meghan and Tilda Cressman for hosting her overnight. And thank you Denie of Courtney-Comox for patiently waiting for her and going slowly to let her feel comfortable. It’s nice to see her smile.

PUPDATE- Marcy now Marly
Newly arrived in Nanaimo, Marly is quite taken with life in a real home. Her new mom Diana tells us she is doing great - got past a few in house accidents but learning to go outside. She’s adjusting to new sights and sounds enabled by rewards from her mum. She scarfs down her food like she’s never seen a meal but that’ll make training easy - not to mention her smarts! She is overjoyed to see her parents abd engage with them. She is showing off her acrobatic skills but learning that tables aren’t part of the gym.

Thank you to Ken Mouldey for helping Marcy get to the airport in PV. Marcy was initially found with her siblings at a nearby farm by the sanctuary but wandered off before the SPCA PV got the pups to safety. Several weeks later she wandered back toward the sanctuary and Ken found her and got her to safety. Thank you also to Laurie Schildt for being her flight angel to Vancouver and to Meghan And Tilda Cressman for their work at the airport to get her and hosting her overnight before her new family could get her. She enjoyed the cuddles and bravely explored her surroundings.

A note of gratitude from Cassy

Today was the biggest day of my life and despite a long journey and wet rain and snow - I was my best and bravest self. I’ve mothered many pups, survived being dumped during a hurricane, endured surgery for dog inflicted wounds, but I choose gratitude. To my three pups that preceded me to Canada - one in Prince George, one in Edmonton, and one on Pender Island, I am so very happy for you. I never thought I’d get the same chance. Thank you to the SPCA PV for caring for me. Thank you to my new mom Judy who waited for me since summer and celebrated my arrival and even let me share cuddles and room on the couch. Thank you to her friend Jo who upon seeing me cried tears of joy and called me beautiful. I savoured the cuddles of my flight angel and anyone who cared to say hello on my journey.

A new life deserves a new name name. I am now Calita (aka Cally) which means warmth. My heart is warm, my belly is full, and my dreams have come true.

A very special thanks to Hayley and her friends for transporting two lucky pups to Vancouver from Puerto Vallarta. Last year Hayley was on holiday in PV and met her pup, who was making an appearance at the SPCA PV fundraising table at the Saturday market. They fell in love and Hayley brought Muffin (now Paco) into her family. But that wasn’t all - she helped again by flying pups this year!

PUPDATE
Paco (formerly Muffin) is living an amazing life in Port Coquitlam. He jumped into his mum's arms when she was on holidays in Puerto Vallarta and he was getting some real life exposure at the market. Paco has a special bond with his furry sister who generously and kindly welcomed him. He has decided that car rides aren't scary anymore over the last few months. He loves playing with his neighborhood pup friends, hiking, running, camping, and swimming. He spent the summer out adventuring with his family and being a big, cuddly baby. Paco's mum is paying it forward and transporting dogs for us next week. 2 lucky dogs have found their homes and one more spot to fill. Huge thanks to Hayley and her family for giving Paco a wonderful life and for helping the next dogs get to a better life.

5 year old Keisha is a shelter sweetheart. She is a shepherd mix weighing 52 lbs and she is full of affection. Keisha was originally found chained up, malnourished covering a hole she’d dug to protect her young pups. All of Keisha’s pups have since been adopted and all have done extremely well – very loving dogs, who exceeded all expectations after a tough start in life. After Keisha was rescued they learned she was not only hungry but blind – likely at the hands of human poisoning. As her pups grew they would guide her on walks making sure she came along for the adventure. Since their adoption, Keisha has taken newly abandoned pups under her wings making them feel safe and loved. Keisha is healthy and would just love her own family who will love her and give her the affection she deserves. She is currently at the SPCA PV sanctuary in Mexico, and will be able to fly to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton.
We'd love to hear from you and would be soooo happy if she found a home. She's a very special girl.

Sofia & Lucia are looking for a home.

These lovely young ladies were abandoned together, and have continued to live together in the SPCA PV sanctuary, and we’d love to find them a home together. Sofia is 3 years old, and 17 lbs, lower energy and the more reserved of the two. She’ll stand back and assess, and once assessed is friendly and affectionate. Lucia is 1 year old and 28 lbs, medium energy, and the gregarious friend maker for the duo. They appear to have had a home so we think they are likely house trained, but cannot confirm in the shelter. They are healthy, spayed and vaccinated. They have can fly to to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton. If you think you might be the lucky home for them, write us at [email protected] and tell us a little about yourself, or go direct to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

Looking for a home

Young Rudy, born Feb 2024 was found one morning as a very young puppy buried in dirt near the shelter. He was taken into the SPCA PV sanctuary, and they learned that he was buried to soothe burns on his back where his hair is now discoloured. He currently weighs 35 lbs, we think he’ll grow to be about 50 lbs. He was lucky that one of our sweet mamma pups Keisha took him under her wing to give him the love he should still get as a young pup. He’s a playful boy that would love a yard and adventures, and maybe even a welcoming dog friend. He has been good with cats (though exposure is limited). Rudy is healthy and ready to fly. He is currently at the SPCA PV sanctuary in Mexico, and will be able to fly to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton. If you think you might be the lucky home for him, write us at [email protected] and tell us a little about yourself, or go direct to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

Marcy is looking for a home!
She has a flight as she was destined to a home on Vancouver island, but the adopter unfortunately can no longer take her.

One year year old, she is a Mexican mix with some Australian cattle dog x lab (her sibling was DNA tested and basically had just about every breed you could list). Marcy is playful and energetic and would like a home with a yard and a family who enjoys getting out to adventure – walking and swimming are things she enjoys. We think Marcy is part of a litter that was dumped near the sanctuary and taken in briefly by a neighbouring farm. When the farmer got up in the morning several of the dogs had already wandered off, including Marcy – her 4 siblings taken into the SPCA PV. A month or so later, she turned up crying at the sanctuary, having found them again. And she’s now safe in the sanctuary.
Marcy is playful and friendly – she likes people and other dogs. She did spend some time in a foster home until there was room for her, so has some basic commands and house trained. Marcy has been tested with cats – she was curious and a bit confused, and eventually thought perhaps they might want to play. Marcy is excited around toys and bones and will sometimes growl so other dogs don’t take them away from her. She could really use the attention that a real home would afford her. Marcy currently weighs 35 lbs. She is spayed, healthy and vaccinated. She has siblings living in Vancouver, Bellingham and Vancouver island and one headed to Edmonton. If you think she might be a fit for you, write us at [email protected] and tell us a little about yourself, or go direct to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

BELLA is looking for a home.

Bella is a one year old Belgian Malinois cross weighing 45 lbs. She was abandoned and scared living on a derelict old couch on the street – far too young to have to fend for herself, but she did. Bella is very smart, and smart enough sadly to know not to rush up to strangers, who likely were not always kind. In general she takes her time to assess without a great amount of confidence, but does recover to engage. Bella has good skills with other dogs and might enjoy a home with another dog. When tested with cats, she was nervous but kind and patient allowing them to assess her. Bella’s brain and young age mean she’d love a home that would enrich her through both mental and physical exercise, including playtime. She’s a joy to watch playing with other dogs, bowing down from her long legs. We think Bella would like a home with a yard. Bella is healthy, spayed and vaccinated. She is currently at the SPCA PV sanctuary in Mexico, and there's room for her to fly in a couple of weeks to Vancouver (Calgary / Edmonton coming soon). Her bestie is headed to Vancouver island... she'd love to go too!

If you think you might be the lucky home for her, and have a real couch that she might enjoy, write us at [email protected] and tell us a little about yourself, or go direct to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

Registered Charity that stands by our dogs for life

Federally registered in Canada since 2012, PVCA Animal rescue finds loving homes in Canada for dogs looking for a second chance in life. A sister charity to the SPCA PV in Puerto Vallarta, we rely on our dedicated volunteers to support the transition of these dogs on their journey to happiness in Canada. These dogs were failed in the past - abused, neglected, abandoned, but with the kindness of strangers, they have this chance. We rely entirely on donations and the kindness and dedication of our volunteers and those committed to adopting.
