Sweet Chiquita is looking for a forever home!
Foster boy Finn is looking for a home in Victoria. He’s 7 with lots of love to give. He’d love a quiet home, is good with dogs - in fact he would probably love a fur sibling (though he says no thank you to cats). Finn is timid with strangers visiting but at his pace joins others for walks. He’s house trained with all his basic commands. Finn loves to sunbathe in his yard so would enjoy a yard to work on his tan. We’d love to share more. Get in touch at [email protected]
PVCA Alumni Roo lives up to her name - truly bouncing in the snow in Squamish BC. Roo is proud of her mum, who not only adopted Roo and gives her a wonderful life of adventure, but has also been a flight angel bringing dogs to their happy ever after lives in Canada and fostering. Thanks Roo and Gina for making us all smile today.
Ozzy would love a home for 2023!
This 9 month old pup would love a home with a yard and probably another dog to play with. He’s got energy to burn and will need more practise learning to take in stimulation and still find his calm afterwards. He is playful and likes people. He was tested a couple of months ago with cats and did well (we might want to test again). He is house trained and healthy. And the perfect size! He’s about 25 lbs but needs to put on more weight- perhaps growing to 35 lbs. Ozzy is in foster in Vancouver. If interested email [email protected]
8 month old foster puppy Ozzy enjoying snow!
There is something so joyful about dogs and snow. Maybe it makes us all feel like kids again. We’d love you to share some of our Mexican dogs enjoying snow to spread that happy feeling around (or snoozing inside if they’re not into snow).
Alberta Peeps!
Tanner is looking for a home in Calgary.
This lab x shepherd weighs 38 lbs is looking for a home and is looking for a quiet home with a fenced yard without other pets or young children. He loves sunbathing, belly rubs and tug of war. Tanner is house trained and healthy. He is medium energy, and loves his people. He has high prey drive (squirrels look out, but he’ll ace that flirt pole!). Tanner is a cuddly boy, who’d love an experienced home that can understand his fear reactivity to dogs and dog body language in general. He thrives in a calmer setting where he can cuddle with his humans. If you think you might be a good fit for Tanner, email [email protected] and tell us a bit about how you might be a good fit, and we can send you an application and tell you more about him.
It’s hot so walks in the middle of the day really aren’t a good option for the next few days.
Enrichment games offer an opportunity to use a dog’s brain power and can be equivalent to a 20 minute walk. Some games like this shredding game may also serve to simulate some of the feelings dog would get from hunting.
In this game, you can take your paper recyclable boxes, toilet paper rolls etc, and hide treats in them, put them all together in a magic box that they get to shred. If your dog eats cardboard then this game probably isn’t for them - but you could do something similar with plastic recyclables, balls etc, in a plastic tote that they have to dig through for treats. Having a dog experience different noises and tactile experiences is also good to build confidence (depending on your dogs comfort).
Unfortunately they don’t clean up the shreddies 😉
Meet Sparky - who's been very patiently waiting for too long to know what a life with a loving home would be like. He's 3.5 years old weighing 30 lbs (comment: any guess on the breed?) who was found on the side of the road, abandoned with a bowl of water. We don't know what his life was like before that, but he can exhibit stranger danger. He wants to be sure you're safe, so he's looking for a patient home with experience, and without young kids. Sparky being in the shelter too long has meant he's safe and cared for, but it's not ideal. He got to experience life in a foster home for 2 weeks and he did great - they described him as a loving cuddle bug who enjoyed play time, and trained well with treats. Sparky is afraid of cats. He'd like a quiet setting, ideally with a yard. He's medium energy, healthy, neutered and vaccinated and of course, he's stunning! Please enquire with [email protected]. You can tell us a bit about your home and we can send you an application to help us find him his best fit for the happy ever after he's dreamed of.
Welcome Bella!
After a very long journey to Canada, Bella was met at the airport but our amazing volunteer Mario Corona, who took her home very late where they enjoyed a night to decompress in their luxurious camper. This morning, Bella got to meet PVCA Alumni Ruby. Ruby herself was a very timid girl when she came to Canada, so she understands and has confirmed to Bella that the Coronas are special people. Bella will transition to her foster home shortly in Surrey, BC. She is looking for her forever home. She lived up to her reputation as a supreme cuddle bug, and she'd sure like a forever lap to call her own. Email [email protected] to enquire, or if you're interested in joining our foster roster.
Introducing Bella who is looking for her forever home!
This beauty certainly lives up to her name. She is 1.5 years old, weighing 45 lbs, house trained and affectionate. She learns fast and has picked up basic commands in her foster home (sit, down shake paw). She's a fast learner and very food motivated. Bella is looking for a home without cats. She is good with dogs, but nervous on a short leash (her foster walks her on a long leash and she is happy with that). Bella loves cuddles, is a bit of a scavenger (not surprising since she had to survive on the streets). She will chase motorcycles. Bella is in local foster.
Bella is spayed and vaccinated. If interested, email [email protected]
Coming soon to a backyard near you!
Puppies Arya and Lara are in foster in Puerto Vallarta learning tricks from their foster mamma. These lucky ladies will be bigger girls (+50 lbs). Arya (with the brown markings) looks like a Mastiff, and Lara shows maybe some herding dog in her.... but truth is, doesn't matter, both are so sweet. They should be ready to fly to their forever adoptive home by end of March. They are looking for a cat free home (they like to chase them). They are 'pee pad' trained. If you think you might be their forever home, please email [email protected] for early applications!
This is PVCA pup Annie recently celebrated 3 years as a Canadian. Annie was a dog abandoned with her litter as a very young puppy and then spent her first year of life in the SPCA PV sanctuary. While she was well cared for, sanctuary life is secluded and Annie didn’t get the amount of socialization with people and the world that others dogs would expect in their early development. As a result she was very scared when she arrived in Canada- she didn’t get out of her crate until the day after she arrived. She was very afraid of people and her family were patient and have slowly watched her confidence grow.
In the video here she is 3 years later meeting her house guest with kisses to the face. Way to go Annie!
Did you know that dogs are genetically pre-disposed to be more fearful of men? So for dogs who haven’t spent a lot of time with people in their young life this presents more acutely. It is often misinterpreted as an abusive history. Regardless - going slow and giving the dog choice, distance and time pays off in the longer run. It doesn’t happen overnight but nice to see how they progress.
