Hamburglar went to a New Hampshire rescue just 3 weeks ago. Got this update today......

"Hamburglar” (one of the recent
Georgia transports) now “Tuckerman” came to us as our 7th foster. My husband, who did not want a dog, fell in love with him. This says a lot about how special this pup is - the non-dog person, germ-a-phobe, type A, neat freak - fell in love with a slobbery mess making dog!!
Tuckerman has been an awesome addition to our family of four boys. He loves snowy hikes, car rides, and licking dishwasher dishes.

Just love getting shepherds into rescue and 3 more went to a fabulous GSD rescue in the northeast this weekend. They are such beautiful intelligent dogs but very few get out of Southern shelters alive. Not sure why except that they are so big and intelligent that in the wrong hands they can develop behavior issues. I'm especially thankful for the shepherd rescue that helps us. They have 3 trainers for anything that pops up. One is Heartworm positive, and they didn't hesitate to take him for treatment. Every one saved is nothing short of a miracle. Happy life Echo, Chief and Maverick.

46 dog and 20 cats about to load at Murray County Georgia Animal Shelter heading to 11 rescues in NJ, NY, PA, CT and NH. May not seem like many, but there's 22 over 30 lbs, and 4 over 70 lbs. So happy to send 11 yr old Nations and 15 year old Daisy. Animals went from Murray, Toccoa, Athens-Clarke, Ben Hill, Albany, Harris, Hands for Paws, Inc. And Tina Sias, who socializes kittens from feral moms. Thank you all, North and South! Way to work together.

23 dogs over 30 lbs heading out on the transports tomorrow, including 4 Heartworm positive. 3 shepherds going. 2 weighing a hundred pounds and one that's like 50 pounds, but came into the shelter weighing just 30. Can't believe we're pulling it off. Quite a group of rescuers, north and south! Woohoo!

Can anyone contribute to the cost of heartworm treatment of these two dogs? They went to NH from a GA shelter, and are heartworm positive.
At Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley (PMHS-CV), we believe every animal deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life. This Valentine’s Day, we’re asking for your help to provide lifesaving heartworm treatment for two amazing dogs, Rusty and Taji, who are currently in our care.
Rusty’s Journey
Rusty, a 3-year-old mix, has had a tough start to life. After being bounced from one situation to another, this sweet and resilient pup finally found his way to PMHS-CV. During his intake medical exam, we discovered that Rusty has a severe and advanced case of heartworm that had gone untreated for far too long. Despite his health challenges, Rusty’s love for people and his happy-go-lucky attitude remains unshaken. He’s a fighter, and we’re committed to fighting alongside him!
Taji’s Story
Taji, just 10 months old, came to us due to behavioral issues in his previous home. When our team met him, we saw a playful, joyful puppy who just needed a little guidance. Unfortunately, Taji’s medical exam revealed he, too, is heartworm positive. While his case isn’t as advanced as Rusty’s, the treatment process will still be long and challenging—especially for such a young, energetic pup.
Why Your Help Matters
Heartworm is a dangerous and potentially fatal disease caused by a parasitic worm that affects the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Without treatment, it can lead to severe organ damage or even death. Treating heartworm is not only costly but also a long and difficult journey. Over the next four months, both dogs will require several rounds of medication, restricted activity, and careful monitoring to recover.
The cost of heartworm treatment is steep, and that’s just part of the story. We also need to provide Rusty and Taji with every day necessities and care, constant enrichment, and ongoing medical care throughout their recovery. Together, these expenses create a significant financial burden for our shelter.
How You Can Make a Difference!
This Valentine’s Day, you can help us give Rusty and Taji the chance to live the full, happy lives they deserve. Your donation, no matter the size, will directly support their treatment and care. Every dollar brings us closer to the day when Rusty and Taji can run, play, and thrive without pain or limitations.
In addition to donations, we’re also looking for volunteers to become “Heartworm Heroes” by fostering Rusty or Taji during their recovery. A quiet, loving home can make all the difference in helping these dogs heal.
Be a Hero for Rusty and Taji!
These two special dogs have so much love to give. With your support, we can ensure they have the chance to enjoy long, healthy lives in forever homes. Donate today and become a part of their journey. Together, we can turn heartbreak into hope!

Another miracle in the books for Georgia shelter pets. If there's one thing I've learned during my years in rescue.... rescue people are an unstoppable breed all their own. We had massive mechanical problems this week, but in true rescue style, when lives are at risk, the job gets done! Thank you Donna West and Michelle Ray DeRepentigny for coming through against all odds! 54 dogs and 65 cats heading north today on the Murray, Toccoa and Athens-Clarke vehicles. Felv and HW+ cat Leo the girl is heading to the Director of a 450 acre sanctuary in VA to live with her 2 personal felv+ cats. The sanctuary has 1300 animals with over 22 different species. Black kittie Hudson is going from a south GA shelter to a Pennsylvania rescue to get his leg amputated before being put up for adoption. 2 fiv+ cats, along with my friend, Carol's 2 long long time fosters are heading to a wonderful CT Cat rescue. I know fosters worry about transporting the animals they love, but truly, these animals have all won the lottery, and will have wonderful homes in no time! Fairthywell kids!

Quite a transport week! 62 dogs and 87 cats heading out on the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, Inc. and Albany Humane Society vans and the Athens Area Humane Society box truck with the help of Athenspets - GA and Athens-Clarke County Animal Services. What a wonderful transport, due to the hard work of so many rescuers working together. There's 2 GSDs going to a shepherd rescue and training facility-- one sweet boy desperately needing exercise and training and one super skinny GSD. A real miracle for these 2. So many miracles on board. Hydrocephalus pups, HW+, FELV+ (that hopefully will outgrow it, and heading to a vet tech in NJ), fiv+, 3 Cats needing eyelid surgery, 2 moms with pups, dogs rescued at their 11th hour, 7 month old Toffee that's been in a Ga shelter since he was 10 weeks old, an orange cat recovering from a severe wound, a sight and neurogically impaired little black dog. On and on. So many lives saved. Can you believe it? Thank you all, North and South! 149 in all!

In the end 74 cats and 83 dogs. 157 in all are leaving this afternoon on their way from Georgia shelters to 17 rescues in the northeast. So happy for Scarlett. After 15 months in a Georgia shelter she's been treated for Heartworm and is on her way! Thank you to Murray, Accas, Toccoa, Ben Hill. Albany, MOAS, Forsyth, Hands to Paws, Hands for Paws and Harris for doing what it takes. Here's some of the cuties that are on their way. Scarlett is the first dog.
