This week we are highlighting sweet and adoptable Ruby! 😻

⏰ Ruby came from a tough past. We rescued her almost a year ago from a terrible hoarding situation of 120 cats. When we got her, her bladder had pushed through a hernia in her abdomen. This was sewn up during her spay surgery but unfortunately, a little bit later, the vet discovered the hernia repair didn’t hold so she had to undergo ANOTHER hernia repair. This girl has been through a lot in her short life! 💔

❤️‍🩹 BUT that has not stopped Miss Ruby from gradually gaining confidence, learning people can be nice and venturing out of her safe space!

🤎 Ruby is so sweet and loves pets! It takes a little time for her to learn to trust new people, but when she does, her love shines through!

🖤 She has formed a bond with the resident cats and other foster cats, but she tends to retreat when they get too close so she would do best as an only cat or with the slow introduction to a calm, tolerating cat or dog who would allow her to have her own space.

🤍 Ruby just needs a loving, quiet home where she can be shown love and continue to learn that people can be trusted— you will be rewarded for your patience with unconditional love!!

A few facts about Ruby:
🐾 She is a polydactyl!! (5 toes instead of 4?? The better to high five you with!)
🌲She loves her cat tree and sitting at the top so she can look over everything.
🧶 Her favorite toys are balls that roll and spring toys that bounce!
🍤 Ruby is food motivated! You open a can or treat bag and she will come running!
🦷 She has had a full dental exam and cleaning!
💉 As with all adoptable cats, she is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, combo tested (FIV/FELV), spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and flea/tick prevention

👆🏼Click the link tree in our bio and click on adoptable kitties for more information or DM us if you’re interested in this girl who deserves a loving home to call her own!

🏡 Could that be you? Tag someone you think is just the person Ruby needs!

Is Rescue still fun for you?

For most people involved in Rescue, that beginning time was more than fun, it was almost exhilarating. Simply being able to reach out and help an animal in need, to make a difference in that animals life felt so good. And it's addictive.

But also for most people involved in Rescue, they come to find it's like rolling a snowball down the hill – it gets bigger and bigger and sometimes it can even set off an avalanche.

Where are you in the stage of Rescue? Are you at the beginning it makes you happy, where you feel good for every cat you trap, for every kitten you socialize, for every colony you stabilize and manage? Are you in the middle where it still feels really good but you're starting to feel a little overwhelmed, you don't have enough hours in the day? Or have you become buried in the avalanche and you don't know how to dig yourself out?

Rescuers are really bad about taking care of themselves. And sadly even when they can see that they are becoming buried, they don't know how to avoid it. Throughout the years of involvement in Rescue, the number one problem I have seen for rescuers is the feeling of guilt they developed for not taking on a situation.

We've said it before and we will probably say it many times again, but if you don't take care of yourself first you won't be able to take care of any others. Are you building up debt, finding yourself becoming socially isolated, or find you are becoming pessimistic, negative, angry all the time? When you hear of a situation in need is your first reaction a sense of despair, knowing that you "just have to do it"? If so, it really is time for you to step back.

Suggestions for creating that healthy zone for yourself:
- Look at your support system. Do you have people in your life who encourage you to take time for yourself, or are the people in your life actually involved in having you take on more and more? If you find you are not able to say no, it may be time to distance yourself -at least for a while - from the people who are not helping you help yourself. And if you have been having people in your life who care about you tell you they are worried about you – listen to them.

- If you have had to distance yourself from people in your life, you need to be looking for that healthy support system. Depending on your personality and your style, there are so many ways to begin to reach out for that support – pick up a book at the library on self care; check out the Internet for support groups; do a search for in person support groups; consider talking to a counselor. Talk to friends and family members and say: You know I think I have gone too far and I'm losing myself – I'm trying to dig myself out of this hole, can you help me?

-Ask yourself what would you really love to be doing right now? Have you given up hobbies or simple things that you love to do because Rescue has left you no time for them? Start out slowly but schedule time to do some of those things you love. Whether it's going for a hike, going to a movie, going out dancing or to a concert, think of something that sounds fun. Maybe it's taking a class in something that interests you, or joining a craft group, a book club, a cooking class. And if you're having trouble thinking of something you want to do, you really need to spend the time thinking about it - because this is a sign you're in trouble!

-If you have gotten yourself into financial difficulties, maybe you are living on a credit card, that needs to stop now. Too many rescuers have gone to this point and been unable to stop, and ended up losing everything - including their ability to help the animals. If you have to stop doing any rescue work for now while you get your finances in order, do it. If you don't have a budget, make one. Allocate only what you can afford to spend on charitable giving and make that your line in the sand – if you don't have the ability to pay for what you are taking on, you're on a road to self destruction. There's no shame in saying "I can't afford that". By stepping back, getting your own life back in order and deciding exactly what you are truly able to do, you will be able to become involved again and be able to help without ruining yourself.
-Don't accept guilt. If you have made it clear you need to step back and you have toxic people in your life telling you "you HAVE to do this, the animals NEED you, you CAN'T turn your back", get rid of them. If you're at the point that you have to take this step back, you simply cannot be with those people who are encouraging you to continue the path to self destruction.

We hope those who are reading this are not yet at that stage of being buried in the avalanche. But if you're standing on that slope and starting to lose your footing, please – take the steps now to prevent the slide that will bury you. Help your fellow rescuers by not overwhelming them, and encourage them to take care of themselves. Remember, your life is important too; take time today to find some joy just for you. We want to see you be able to continue in Rescue -take care of yourself first and you will be able to continue to Rescue for the rest of your life☺️

***UPDATE: I was informed that these two have been placed with a “friend” temporarily. We have no other information on what that means 😭. We will continue to reach out to the family and other rescues. In the meantime, any donations receive for these girls will be held until we know for sure where they are and that they are safe 🙏***

Meet Shadow and Sophie. Two bonded sisters who, to no fault of their own, are losing the only home they’ve ever known. Their loving owner sadly has to move to Memory care and cannot take her beloved cats. 💔

Heartbreakingly, the family members are refusing to take them, threatening to kick them out and have said these girls only have until Monday to find placement. 😔

🩶 Shadow is 12 years young and has had kidney issues for some time. She is currently getting over a UTI and will need another antibiotic injection soon. She is very sweet, docile, and loving.

🤎 Sophie is only 7 years old and has to be on specific prescription food. Like her sister, she is very sweet, loving and docile.

🩺 Please help us help these two girls with a second chance at a loving home! They would both need senior labs, CKD (kidney disease) evaluations as well as special prescription food which is all costly for our small rescue.

‼️ Any donation helps and would be greatly appreciated to get these sisters the help and love they need and deserve!

**Special needs rescue would be the best solution for Shadow and Sophie!

What a beauty! Thank you for saving her 💕

We recently rescued Toffee from an outdoor situation where all the cats were eating trash..
Toffee is approximately 9 years old and was suspected to be pregnant 😩..she has been declining the past few days with a high fever and we begun to suspect Pyrometra.. she had emergency surgery today with our local vets.. the good news was she was not pregnant.. can you imagine this poor ladies life living outdoors and constantly having babies.. no telling how many she’s lost.. she’s a sweetheart and no more babies and hopefully all uphill from here..😽

We could always use assistance with our unexpected surgery and care today for Toffee 💔

Soon shelters and rescues will be inundated with with cats and kittens. Some healthy, some sick, some dying. How can YOU help?

🔹 If you find kittens, reach out immediately for assistance, but offer to keep them until the shelter or rescue has time to make a plan. They are more likely to help you, if they can, if you give them a little time to prepare.

🔹 Do not remove young kittens from their mom! If the kittens look healthy, the mom is around even if you don't see her. Leave the kittens alone unless they are skinny, dirty or cold. But keep a lookout. You'll need to trap mom when the kittens are a little older and are able to eat on their own (and rescue the kittens), unless you have the knowledge and are prepared to take care of them earlier.

🔹 Offer to foster! Don't complain about your shelter if you are not willing to help your shelter.

🔹 Look up trap neuter return programs in your area to see what's available. If no programs exist, borrow or buy a trap. Check to see if there is low-cost spay/neuter in your area. All adult cats, male or female, pregnant or not, NEED to be spayed or neutered.

🔹 Donate to your local rescues or shelters. This time of year is VERY expensive for them. They go through a lot more supplies and vet bills are more extensive.

🔹 Be an advocate for spay and neuter! Help to educate the general public by sharing informative posts and letting people know resources available for them locally.

***UPDATE: we have found a perfect foster home for Mystic and she will be introduced this Friday! 🤞 it’s a match for her and the foster family. ****

Mystic is still urgently seeking a quiet foster or forever home!🐾

Mystic is a sweet 5-year-old cat who was found abandoned at one of our feral feeding stations. She’s very affectionate and loves cuddling up next to her humans. However, she’s currently very stressed in her foster home with multiple other cats and two large dogs. Her distress has caused her to start pulling out her hair and displaying behavioral issues. Mystic is looking for a peaceful, low-stress environment where she can truly thrive.

✨ **Ideal Home for Mystic:**
- No other cats (or only cats who will leave her be)
- No dogs
- Someone who can offer her a calm, loving space where she can relax and feel safe
-Experience with cats/fostering

She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, combo tested, has baseline labs, and had her teeth cleaned and extractions completed. We will provide all medical care, preventatives, and supplies she needs while under foster care.

Mystic deserves a home where she can feel the love and security she craves. If you’re looking to foster or adopt a sweet, calm companion, please consider opening your heart and home to Mystic.

Please pm us for more details or to meet this precious girl! 🐱💕
