Dressage at Lexington 2023 is in the books!!

Our first test, training level one, felt absolutely horrible. I lost my stirrup. My girth was a bit loose, and it felt beyond rushed. But we ended up coming in at second place.

Our second test started out far better. With a satisfactory warmup, we headed into the dressage arena, and it felt so much better than the first. But alas Genesis felt that it was far to boring and decided to jump out the arena right before we did our final centerline. We ended up being eliminated.

But all in all, I am beyond happy and thankful! For Genesis first ever dressage show I couldn't have asked for more from her. I am so thankful to God, my aunt who came and supported me, my parents, for pushing me and my siblings who both photographed and groomed for me.

Onwards and upwards from here!

This is exactly how I want my horses to feel. I want them to know that whenever they are with me they won't have to be scared, because I'm going to be there for them.😊😊

Today was a big step in Gandalf's Journey. He finally allowed me to rub him gently on his face.

Gandalf has been a hard shell to crack, especially with his reserved manner and shy spirit.

But today, he finally trusted me enough for the next big step in our journey.

Braveheart Update!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Did he really just let me touch him on his neck for the first time today??

Yes. Yes he did.😭😭

This is such a special moment for me as Braveheart has really been making me work hard to get his trust. But I'm finally getting there!

So thankful for such a successful day!

It really is the little moments that mean so much!!

A huge milestone for Braveheart! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This might seem a bit basic and unimportant, but for me, I think its great! Lately, in our sessions, I've noticed that Braveheart doesn't like my hands. He has been quite scared of them and treats them like a plague.

But today, I was able to get him to eat some treats from my hands, and he absolutely loved them! He was a lot more comfortable with me and was very calm!

Onwards and upwards from here!

Mustang Update:🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🧙‍♂️

Coming up on my 1 month anniversary of owning the two grey boys and I am so glad to be able to say that they have settled in very nicely!

Braveheart is now allowing me to touch him on his face while he eats and he continues to show me more of his gentle and calm personality.

Because of a few projects here at home, I wasn't able to get started working with Gandalf as soon as Braveheart, but I was able to enter his pen yesterday, and he was calm and good-natured about the whole experience.

Overall, I am very pleased with both of them, and I will continue to take things slow as to make sure that both of them are gentled in the best way possible!

Yesterday I said a bittersweet goodbye to this little girl! She is in a new loving home where she will have a very bright future! I'm so excited for her new owners and her future!

Meet Mithrandir Aka Gandalf.🧙‍♂️🧙‍♂️

Gandalf is a 12 year old Mustang gelding from sandwash basin. Not much is known about him from his days on the range, but boy is he pretty! He's a bit shy and skittish, but I'm sure he will settle down. Can't wait to start gentling him when the rain stops!

Braveheart (his given range name) is a 12 year old Mustang gelding from sandwash basin. Braveheart is such an old soul and has a very calm personality. He literally walked right off the trailer! I'm so excited to begin gentling him!

This past weekend we said goodbye to this sweet little girl. She has found a loving new home with some very kind people and will have an exciting future awaiting her. So excited to see where this new journey takes her!

She's a cute little mover with tons of potential to be a fantastic youth horse. She would be perfect for any young person who would want their own horse to train. She leads, loads into a trailer, stands to for grooming, bathing and for feet care. Lunges and free lunges, and walks over obstacles calmly. Has been saddled and handled it very well.

Bold Faith aka Faith is a 14hh chestnut 3 going on 4 year old filly from Antelope Valley Nevada. Faith is a super athletic girl with loads of potential to go in whatever direction you please. She leads, loads into a trailer, stands to get her feet done, and stands for grooming and bathes. She has been tacked up both western and English but mostly western and has been sat on several times and has been led with a rider. Every time she has had a rider she has been well behaved. Walks over obstacles, has good scope over jumps as well as lunges and free lunges. Exceptionally responsive and willing.

Meet the MIC team!

Since I've been on here a while I think it's time that I formally introduced myself.

My name is Sarah and I am the founder of Make It Count Horsemanship.

I am 18 years old and I ride showjumping, eventing, and dressage, while dabbling in the hunter arena. I live in Virginia with my amazing family, dogs and horses.

My three horses (from left to right) are,

Genesis: my 8 year old Gypsy Vanner, mare who I am training in eventing.

Rowdy: My retired quarter horse x gelding.

And Blaze: My Six year old mustang Gelding that I am also training to be a dressage horse or eventer.

Right before I turned 18 my mom asked me, how did I want to spend my first day as being an adult, I responded and said, "I don't know, but I'm gonna make it count." And from that point on that has been my life motto. Making what ever I do count and mean for something. Whether it's working horses or just doing normal life things. God has blessed me with so much, and it would be a waste not to try my hardest for him.

Through Make It Count I specialize in mustang TIP training for the , and sale horses.

Dawn is a 14hh 6 year old sorrel mare from Shawave Mountains Nevada.

She really is a sweet mare, with a curious personality. She is very intelligent and you can totally see her mind working as she takes in everything around her.

Dawn is built very beautifully! She's a tank, and is a quick mover, I could honestly see reining or cutting in her future! In the summer months her coat is so pretty and she would a nice addition to anyone's herd!

Dawn is available for 125 to anyone with an approved BLM application, and an approved BLM 6-foot fenced pen.

Two very well behaved kiddos today!

Had a very educational ride on Blaze. Taking things slow and working on getting him more used to a rider.

Genesis was especially good! Working on getting a better connection in the contact and strengthening!

Welcome to the family boys!

Earlier this week I got two new Grey geldings from the BLM internet adoption and I couldn't be more thrilled! I have always wanted a grey horse and here I am blessed with two! The first one is Braveheart, (it was his given name on the range) and the second is Gandalf! (A great name suggestion from another mustang lover!) I cannot wait until next year when I can bring them home and begin gentling them!

A very bittersweet goodbye was said today. Bucky is now in a new loving home and will have a very bright future! He will always have a special place in my heart and I am very blessed to have been able to have guided him into his new life as a domesticated horse!

Bucky has fulfilled all his requirements and even went beyond in his training. Bucky is very in your pocket and would fit very well into trail horse life as he is as calm and as chill as they come! Sticking at 15 hands this big boy is sure to get taller! This young fella is going through a growth spurt and is filling out and once he's done he will look stellar!

Well look at this here mustang! Winter Soldier AKA "Bucky" has come so far in his training and continues to surprise me by his level headed attitude and calm personality! I love this little dude so much and I am certain that whoever adopts him is going to have a partner for life!

Introducing tag 8011, now known as the "Winter Soldier" AKA "Bucky" (Attention Captain America Fans 😉)!

Bucky is a two year old BLM gelding from Coyote Lake/Alvord-Tule Springs, Oregon. He is a big boy, that is super sweet, loving and gentle.

Over the time that I have had him I have grown to love him! He is one of the most calm mustangs I have ever come across and he is such a chill dude!

Bucky is one of the horse's in training for the TIP (Trainer Incentive Program). He will be available for adoption when he has met all his requirements.

Gandalf Update🧙‍♂️🧙‍♂️: After not being able to work with the grey boys for a week, I was finally able to get back to work with them. Gandalf is now allowing me to touch him on his neck and enjoys quiet, gentle scratching. I know it seems like it has taken me forever to gentle this horse, and we still have a long way to go, but patience must have her perfect work and I have to remember that these horses need things to happen in their own time. It's been a while since this kid was on the grid, so I just thought I'd give a little update. Blaze has had a bit of a setback in his riding, meaning I have had to take him back to the basics. As he is a naturally spooky horse, I have had to do a LOT of desensitization with him. A little break from the training updates, just so I can say Happy Seven Years to one of the best horses I could have ever been blessed with. Rowdy, to others, you may not have been the prettiest. You may not have been the best mover, and you may have seemed like a waste of time. But in my eyes, you were the most beautiful horse I could have ever had the honor of calling mine. These past seven years, you have taught me so much. You've brought me farther than any other horse has, and you have been one of the best friends I could ever ask for. There's literally nothing else I could ask from you, and all I want is for you to have the best retirement any horse would want. Whether that is long hours in the washbay, getting a spa or evenings in the field, getting a hand graze. And of course lots of hugs and treats!
