Little Maggie Pug (3.5 months old) loves when Sage Corgi (1.5 yrs old) comes for a visit. They have loads of fun playing together. Puppies benefit greatly from having one or two safe adult dogs to play with regularly. The adult dog can teach them how to dog in ways we could not. Just keep in mind that not all adult dogs love being around pups, so take introductions slow and respect the older dog's wishes if they say no thank you.

Please join us! This Saturday, June 29th two fun fundraising events will be happening in Two Harbors!
First off, Mary Erno Rissky Hedin is hosting “Another Sale By Mary”! This will be held at 225 3rd Avenue. If you’ve never been to one of Mary’s rummage sales…you are missing out! All of our family and friends have donated lots of fun items to put into this sale.
And after you are done with that, stop on up to the shelter as we are offering-with a donation of your choice- gently used dog/cat beds, collars/leashes, toys and other great miscellaneous items. Know of someone in need? Send them our way! We’ve attached a picture of the flyer.
Please feel free to stop by and pay us a visit! We will be open from 9am-1pm at both fundraising locations.

Why am I posting a picture of a bat, you ask. Well, honestly I've been too overwhelmed with life admin tasks the past few days to focus on social media content. Plus, everyone should take periodic breaks from social media anyhow.
This little guy was hanging out in my church basement a few days ago. I very carefully captured him(or her) and explained that church basements just weren't good habitat for little bats. I transferred the trespasser to the side of a building outdoors where there was some shelter available. Hopefully, (s)he was able to clean off the cobwebs and fly off to feast on pesky insects. Bats are extremely beneficial to our environment and eat a ton of insects every night, so please be kind to them.

Have you had your dog seem puzzled when seeing a dog of a different breed for the first time? It can be confusing for some when another dog has no tail, is extremely short, very small, or is unable to make normal facial expressions. I had a large puppy in a class awhile ago that was very confused about our Corgi. His body language and actions seemed to suggest he was very unsure about such an "unusual" dog.
Generally, once a dog is able to sniff the other dog all becomes right in the world.
More dogs go missing during the 4th of July holiday than any other time of year.
Now is the time to prepare so your dog doesn't become a statistic.
1. Make a safe space for your dog with all her favorite items.
2. Set up multiple box fans, turned on high, and aim them away from your dog's safe space. The moving air will disrupt some of the incoming sounds, thus muffling them.
3. Throw a treat party every single time you hear a boom. Rain lots of yummy treats on your dog!
4. If your dog really struggles, talk to your vet about medications to help them.
5. Keep identification on your dog (in addition to microchip or tattoo)

Only the Corgi could give such a condescending look. She was napping when I asked her to look at me. Apparently, it was quite insulting for me to disturb her beauty rest for such a request. 😆
What she didn't realize was that asking for her focus on me was a prelude to doing some quick training games. Since the dogs follow me everywhere anyhow, I keep small containers of treats stashed around the house for impromptu training. This makes it easier to work practicing skills into my daily life.

Use a variety of treats while training and use the smallest size your dog still realizes they got something.
