Congratulations to Badger on completing 9 sessions of BehaviorCare subscription!
This handsome lug had surgery to repair his torn ACL last winter. It's not uncommon when our dogs experience a major life event for them to need some extra support. Sometimes, they may "forget" things they know or develop new unwanted behaviors.
As part of his team, I helped him get back to his usual self from a behavioral stand point. His wonderful vet and surgeon took care of his medical needs, such pain management. His physical therapist made home visits to help him regain his range of motion and strength in his leg. His family carefully cared for him throughout his long rehab.

If you or someone you know needs help with their pets, Puppa's Pals is there for you. They provide temporary housing for pets whose owners may be in need. By supporting owners in their time of need, Puppa's Pals aims to keep people and their pets together.

It sounds like folks may be getting some misinformation about us. We’re all about staying transparent, our proverbial door is open. When in doubt, just ask. ❤️

To help clear up concerns about us always being full, or in essence, never able to help anyone, I wanted to share some info.

🟠As of October 15th we had 8 dogs and 1 cat in placement. Those numbers are always changing!
🟠We reunited 4 pets with their owners between July and the end of September
🟠We provided outreach services to 7 families
🟠We received 50 applications for respite foster services

We do have a waitlist, and are always in need of new foster families and volunteers in order to meet the needs of folks in crisis. If you know of anyone willing to foster please always send them our way!

We receive many new applications each week, including requests from out of state. Our foster homes being full is evidence of how great the need is, not of our lack of action. We can’t post pleas for help in most cases in order to protect pet owner privacy. We’re helping folks fleeing domestic violence situations, folks experiencing medical, mental health, substance use, and other very sensitive personal crises. Preserving privacy, and ensuring each individual’s right to choose their level of exposure are some of our very highest priorities. We would LOVE to share detailed stories of the work we’re doing more often, we know how social media works. We also know that our participants right to privacy is more important than clicks and likes.

We’re not able to help people if they don’t apply. So please understand, it’s unhelpful to give the impression that we don’t help people. If someone is contacting your organization after having contacted us, that’s good! That means they’re practicing good self advocacy and exploring additional resources while we work on their application! If you’re not sure whether someone who needs our services has applied with us yet, refer them to us anyway. If you have someone who could help foster, refer them to us too!

We do respond to every application we receive. We begin networking placement options right away, as long as they’re appropriate for our program.

Criteria for our program are very basic:
-Pets (dogs, cats, pocket pets, exotics) must have lived with the owner at least 6 months prior to applying
-Pets must be able to be safely handled by new people
-Pet owners must complete our intake application and waiver forms, giving permission for us to take on responsibility for all of their care while in placement
-Pet owners must provide information for a second contact person (emergency contact)
-Pet owners must maintain contact with us throughout their pet’s stay
-Pet owners must demonstrate active progress toward resolving their situation
-There must be a realistic placement timeline of maximum 12 months

Our various application forms are pinned to the top of our page, they’re also at the top of our website.

Congratulations to Zodiak, who recently completed the Ewok Package of private training virtually. This handsome guy, with his amazing guardian, worked hard on building skills to manage his big opinions about visitors to his property. He's been a rock star student!

Emerald Ash Borer Found in Two New Places
Sept. 25 virtual informational meeting
Emergency quarantine on wood movement put in place for Jackson County, quarantine expanded in Lake County
St. Paul, MN: The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has confirmed emerald ash borer (EAB) in Jackson County for the first time. There are now 53 counties in the state, including Jackson, with EAB. EAB has also been confirmed in a new location in Lake County, expanding the original quarantine area.

In Jackson County, a Soil and Water Conservation District employee discovered an adult EAB in the city of Jackson and submitted the find via the MDA’s Report a Pest service. In Lake County, a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources forester noticed unhealthy ash trees in the city of Silver Bay. When inspecting the trees, they found EAB larvae as well as adult EAB.

EAB was first discovered in Minnesota in 2009. The insect larvae kill ash trees by tunneling under the bark and feeding on the part of the tree that moves nutrients up and down the trunk. Often, the trees show several signs of infestation because of this. Woodpeckers like to feed on EAB larvae, and woodpecker holes may indicate the presence of emerald ash borer. Also, EAB tunneling can cause the bark to split open, revealing characteristic S-shaped galleries underneath.

Because this is the first time EAB has been identified in Jackson County, the MDA is enacting an emergency quarantine of the county. In Lake County, since EAB was discovered outside the original quarantine area, the quarantine is being expanded to include townships comprising the southern half of Lake County (see map). The quarantine limits the movement of firewood and ash material out of the area.

The MDA issues quarantines for all areas known to have EAB to reduce the risk of further spreading the tree-killing insect.

A virtual informational meeting for residents and tree care professionals in Jackson and Lake counties will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 10–11 a.m. Experts from the MDA will give a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
Emerald Ash Borer Virtual Informational Meeting:
September 25, 2024
10–11 a.m.
Register at www.mda.state.mn.us/eab

The public will also have an opportunity to provide input on the proposal to add Jackson County’s emergency quarantine and Lake County’s expanded emergency quarantine to the state’s formal quarantine. The MDA is taking comments on the proposed formal quarantine now through October 24, 2024, and recommends adopting the quarantine on October 25, 2024. The proposed quarantine language can be found at www.mda.state.mn.us/eab.

Comments can be made during the virtual meeting or by contacting:

There is more EAB information on the MDA website.

Little Maggie Pug (3.5 months old) loves when Sage Corgi (1.5 yrs old) comes for a visit. They have loads of fun playing together. Puppies benefit greatly from having one or two safe adult dogs to play with regularly. The adult dog can teach them how to dog in ways we could not. Just keep in mind that not all adult dogs love being around pups, so take introductions slow and respect the older dog's wishes if they say no thank you.
