Beautiful sunset with Mae in the background. I’m gearing up for next year’s shenanigans already! Have some fun stuff in the works. I’m planning on taking a group of my Morgan’s to some shows, doing a ranch horse excursion in the spring and a trip up the eastern sierras. I also want to fit in some mounted archery and trail trials. I bet I’ll do some other stuff too knowing me🤪. Should be a fun filled 2025! 🤠

Last year I attended a Warwick Schiller clinic and happened to be there with a New York Times journalist. She and I spent some time chatting during the clinic and she decided to use some of my quotes in this article! It’s a beautiful article and worth the read. Please check it out! So special to be up with the horses. Each time I come up here my relationships with them become stronger and I learn more about them. Bodhi is definitely the boss of Cass in turnout. This is a change for Cass as he’s usually the one in charge.

I love seeing them be horses in real pastures. I wish this could be thier permanent home. They really shine up here in a more natural environment. And it’s so valuable for us to spend non demanding time together. At home each time I get them out it’s to work. I don’t want them always associating me with tasks. It’s been fun walking with them in a mini herd. We fallow each other and sometimes give scratches.

Went on a lovely stroll last night and got this beautiful shot off Bodhi. Enjoying the fall, the horses and good company. Going on an off property exploration today!

This is a gratitude post for my horse Cass. Not sure I’ll get blessed with another horse of Cass’s caliber so I’m doing my best to soak up his awesomeness.

I’ve had Cass for 21 years. He’s 24 years old. He and I used to compete in Morgan breed shows all over the country. He’s won countless awards including regional and national titles. He’s a bitching trail horse. We’ve won several trail trials including reverse state champion a few weeks ago.

A couple years ago when I wanted to try mounted archery I knew Cass was my guy and sure enough he took to it like hes done it his whole life. Pretty much anything I ask he is game and amazing at it. He’s beautiful, athletic, has wonderful manners and is just an all-around sweet guy. He helps give less confident horses confidence I can pony horses off of him he travels super well and, we just have the best connection.

He’s had two colic surgeries, a surgery on his leg and a surgery to remove a cosmetic lipoma. He has been one expensive horse but 100% worth it he is one of a kind. He’s my special boy.

Meet the newest addition to the True North Family and my new horse Theo! He’s a 17 year old Arabian gelding who is going to help give lessons and attend horse shows. He’s going to make a fabulous horse for and for all the things we do around here.

He’s a very sweet quiet boy. On his first walk around the property it was like he’d been here all along! I’m super happy to have him with me and now True North can accommodate more students too! He will be a pleasure to have in the barn and I will be sure to take him on some fun adventures too! 🥰

Are you offering a feel your horse wants to fallow? Something I’ve been focusing on in my lessons is how the rider feels in their body when communicating with their horse. Even if you need to use more pressure your body doesn’t need to become tense or brace. My aim is to be in my body how I’d like my horse to feel. I want my body to inform my horse and theirs to inform me on how to help them.

Using pressure either from the ground with our body language or in the saddle when we are in direct contact is possible without tension in our bodies. I’ve noticed the difference in every horse and rider when we offer a feel that the horse wants to fallow. Feel comes first within then outward.

Nice trip to the riverbed in Norco. I can’t believe I’ve been riding horses for 35 years and this is my first year riding down there! Was a nice quick trip with and . Thanks for coming!

We took the Younghans Bodhi and Moon plus Cass. I have another trail trial on Cass at the end of the month at hidden valley and wanted to get him out to cross that river. I’m really digging all the horse adventures this year!

Bodhi is turning into quite the handsome fellow! It’s fun to see his coat and body condition come to life! He even has a little white star on his head that wasn’t visible until he started shedding!

Bodhi is such a pleasure to have at the barn I’m glad he’s apart of things here! He’s a challenge at times being a 4 year old! He came to me being super forward and now he’s trying out not being forward! Training is a teeter totter at times and hopefully will get to a bit more balance in time.

He and Cass will be heading up to our ranch by Yosemite next week so we’ll see how he does there. lots of new experiences for this little fellow!

Bodhi and I had an amazing time attending the Buck Brannaman clinic this past weekend. Bodhi had a few baby moments but overall was an absolute rockstar! He even had his own fan club at the clinic! 😆 He was more relaxed in the big covered arena with 30 horses than a lot of more “seasoned” horses. I didn’t think that I’d be able to canter Bodhi through a sea of 30 horses all doing different things cantering, circling, trotting, stopping, changing direction but we did it! His steering is not the best, but hey, we made it work and improved it!

we learned a lot and great experiences/exposures. Definitely things to work on and I so appreciate Buck’s attention to detail and all of his exercises are very good for the horses body and brain. I’m excited to implement these more into my program with all of my horses.

I was happy to have been able to share the experience with he and Bodhi did a great job together on Friday. Thanks Cory for riding him the first day and so much before the clinic with my foot being out of commission. I probably overdid it at the clinic, but it was worth it!

Excited to participate in more clinics. I love learning from other top notch horse professionals and affording these opportunities to my horses. And passing on more valuable lessons to my students.
