Free All Captive Elephants was recently interviewed by WUFT reporter Grace McClung.
We expressed our deep concern for Asha after going out to document at Two Tails Ranch in Williston, Florida in September of this year 2024.

“Free All Captive Elephants (FACE), a South Florida-based advocacy organization, has filed a complaint with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) asking that Asha be seized from Two Tails Ranch.
FACE filed its complaint on Oct. 1, 2024, citing what it insists was the ranch’s failure to obtain a proper transfer permit, as well as concerns about Asha’s missing left tusk. The ranch’s owner, Patricia Zerbini, said she told FWC that the elephant lost the tusk by her own doing in August.”

📌As expected, the lack of action by the FWC was disappointing, but not surprising at all. FACE has been filing complaints to this agency for many years on behalf of Nosey and other elephants suffering in circuses and zoos.
NEVER have they confiscated an elephant. But we will continue to bring attention to the failures of these agencies and their lack of enforcement in animal welfare matters, with laws that are weak at best.

FACE continues to work to free Asha to true sanctuary and will not give up on her.

✅ COMPLAINT FILED for 🐘ASHA🐘 ✅

Free All Captive Elephants - FACE, has filed an extensive complaint against Two Tails Ranch (TTR)/Patricia Zerbini with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC), in Florida based on our shocking findings of Asha’s missing left tusk during our documentation at TTR on September 6th, 2024.
📌This complaint is very lengthy and detailed. Only a snapshot of the complaint is shown here.
✅ We encourage anyone to file a complaint!

Zerbini has bragged that over 300 elephants have come through her facility. She certainly knows what is required for an elephant to be legally boarded and what paperwork must accompany the elephant. Yet this simple routine requirement was overlooked?
And the perpetrator that was in charge Mark Wilson, of moving her received NO PENALTY for transporting Asha out of Virginia and into the state of Florida without first obtaining a permit to do so.
❗️Herein lies the huge problem we deal with when laws are broken, yet nothing is done by authorities tasked with imposing the fines or penalties. The law-breakers CONTINUE to operate while the animals suffer.

A myriad of errors and disregard for the laws took place in the transfer of Asha from the Natural Bridge Zoo to Two Tails Ranch just days before Virginia authorities moved in to raid the zoo on December 6th, 2023. Asha was hurriedly whisked away from NBZ on 11/30/23 and arrived at TTR on 12/1/23.
As she was not on property during the raid, Asha was not seized. Had she been on property, she would have been seized.

FACE wants to know WHAT HAPPENED TO ASHA’S LEFT TUSK while in the hands of Two Tails Ranch??? She had BOTH OF HER TUSKS as of June 18th, 2024. On September 6th, 2024, she HAD ONLY ONE TUSK.

FACE continues to take ACTIONS on Asha’s behalf. We will update everyone as we uncover more information.

📌 Please donate if you can to support Free All Captive Elephants - FACE in our work to help suffering captive elephants in circuses and zoos gain their rightful freedom to true sanctuary.
We couldn’t possibly continue to do the vital work we do without your support.

FACE mourns the loss of FaaSai and PloyThong. 💔😭💔
Elephant Nature Park was hit with the worst flooding in history on October 4th. Many animals were swept away by the raging river. Flood waters engulfed all of the park up into the higher lands.
All but FaaSai & PloyThong made it through, all 126 elephants are accounted for. All the dogs and cats were saved. The pigs, cows and buffalo, most were swept away. They will be looking for any survivors.
Saengduean Lek Chailert and Darrick Thomson are wrought with pain and grief. We are grieving with them and will be there in support along this difficult journey to get the Park back on its feet.

🚨 URGENT: Happy needs your help more than ever. The toll that a half century of captivity has had on Happy is again on full display in the exhibit yard.

After 10 weeks of confinement in the barn, Happy was finally seen in the exhibit yard this week. This photo–one of several taken Sunday by an NhRP supporter–shows Happy lying on a dirt patch with her eyes open. We don’t know how long she was lying down (outside the period in which our source saw her via the monorail) but she did get back up only to almost immediately lie down again. This is one of several times Happy has been observed lying down this week. As far as is known, this pattern of lying down in the exhibit yard isn’t normal for Happy. From the time we began monitoring this exhibit in 2018 until her disappearance from view this summer, we and our sources only ever observed Happy in a standing position in this yard.

The photos also show significant damage to Happy’s feet which itself raises serious questions about Happy’s health. For example, why is she choosing to lie down during the few hours she has available outside? Is she trying to find relief from joint and foot pain caused by decades of standing in the exhibit? Does she spend most of her time in the barn lying down as well? Because of the zoo’s refusal to be transparent, we can’t definitively answer these questions, among countless others. But we and the elephant experts we’ve consulted with continue to suspect something is seriously wrong with Happy, and the zoo won't acknowledge it publicly.

🚨 You can help by 1) sharing this post 2) contacting the Bronx Zoo via social media or their customer service line to politely urge them to and to a sanctuary.

Whatever is wrong specifically, it’s appalling that the Bronx Zoo has put the suffering of elephants on display for decades–favoring its own interests at the expense of Happy and Patty’s. In the end, though, the dire, unjust situation these elephants are in is about something much bigger than the Bronx Zoo. It’s about the fact that elephants lack the legal right to be free from unjust captivity–captivity that slowly but surely destroys them in body and mind.

♥️ Somboon ♥️
87 years old!!!
Elephant Nature Park
Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Somboon has been in beautiful sanctuary since January of 2024, after 87 years of an abusive life in the tourism industry. She started out as a baby born free to a mother that would have done anything to keep her safe. But that was not to be.

More than 87 years ago, Somboon was ripped away from her mother, beaten and broken into submission to begin a life in the logging industry. After logging was outlawed, she was broken again to give rides to thousands of tourists wanting to check off an item on their bucket list. Most likely, she was forced to breed as well where her babies would have been taken away and put through the same abuse as she endured.

It is remarkable she lived through all of this abuse to be 87. A life of pure hell.

But now… Somboon is finally free from her past life and living as she was born to live. Just look at her! She is THRIVING in beautiful SANCTUARY. She is loved and given everything she needs now.

She has a WONDERFUL mahout that stays with her day and night and looks after her with lots of tender-loving care.
We personally saw Somboon and enjoyed watching her being so well taken care of. She gets everything she needs… and more! It is a miracle at 87, she is alive… and finally… she gets a life worth living.
Every second she has to enjoy her life as she was born to live…is a miracle and so heartwarming to see.
Thank you Elephant Nature Park for everything you do for Somboon and all of the 126 elephants in your care.
♥️🙏🏼🐘🙏🏼♥️

Video by Robin Vitulle taken June, 2024:
Somboon as she explored by crossing the river, walking up the embankment, and spent time checking out the other side by munching on the greenery, scratching on a big tree log and visiting the mahout’s house. She took her time enjoying every moment while her own mahout followed along, giving her all the time she wanted. ♥️🙏🏼🐘🙏🏼♥️

Free All Captive Elephants - FACE News!
♥️♥️♥️😍Asha the Elephant.
Between June and September, 2024, something happened to Asha’s TUSK while in the care of Two Tails Ranch. She had two beautiful tusks when she arrived, now she has one. Two Tails Ranch must answer our concerns. What we uncovered with our boots on the ground, we want answers for and we intend to find out.

We asked Patricia Zerbini, the owner of TTR, what happened to Asha’s tusk? Her answer was, “It’s a tooth.” That was it. Nothing else was said. Well we can say a beautiful tusk on a 4 ton elephant is something quite spectacular! It is more than just a tooth.
What are they hiding? FACE continues to work for Asha to get her out of her horrible conditions and into true sanctuary. We need your support to help in our vital work on Asha’s behalf.

META Algorithms.

For nonprofits like ours, Money, Donations, and Supporters are hard to come by. The last thing we want to do is waste donations on advertising because of Meta algorithms that hurt the ability to use this platform for our good work.

We work hard to gain our supporters and need every single one to help spread awareness for our cause:

Suffering - Captive - Elephants in circuses and zoos.

Many organizations have brought a world of good to help animals, humans, and causes that would otherwise never get the attention desperately needed without sharing through social media. We work on a shoestring and can’t afford to waste any funds on unnecessary advertising.
The money spent to advertise is money lost in direct help for our cause.
Without social media, we would never have been able to get suffering captive elephants to true sanctuaries. The awareness brought by sharing on social media has been invaluable.
♥️ Look at Nosey the elephant as the best example of our success. Nosey was an elephant we tracked throughout the United States for years trying to get her FREE to a sanctuary. She was hauled around in a circus act for more than 30 years from Florida to almost every state across America. She was abused, alone, and suffering. Without the ability to share what we were doing with FB followers, the advocates that saw our posts and helped locate Nosey wherever she popped up all across the nation, would never have been able to do so. Nosey is FREE in part because of FB sharing.
‼️ We were successful in getting Nosey rescued beause of the many people that connected through social media with us.

We need to connect with our followers WE ALREADY HAVE and need your help.

This is devastating all around! Namibia will be culling hippos, zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, impala…. And the elephants. Just AWFUL! Worst drought in decades for South Africa. The culled animals’ meat will be fed to the people.
Climate change. 😔😔😔.
Human - Elephant conflict will occur, is occurring, in addition to this culling. More animals will not only succomb to the culling, but more will die because of starvation due to the drought.
Human encroachment of the lands all these animals onced roamed has pushed them out…now they will pay the ultimate price in a horrific way.
There is much more to this story and the fallout will be devastating.

Quote from article:
“To this effect, 83 elephants from identified conflict areas will be culled, (and) meat will be allocated to the drought relief programme,” it said.

The country also plans to cull 30 hippos and 60 buffalo, as well as 50 impala, 100 blue wildebeest, 300 zebra and 100 eland.

Namibia exhausted 84% of its food reserves last month, and nearly half of its population is expected to experience high levels of food insecurity in the coming months.

This circus worker affidavit is very telling of the kinds of abuse that goes on behind the scenes of a circus…when the public cannot bare witness. Nosey was beaten in the dark of night, this worker being told to come at her from all sides, a sneak attack when she would not know what was coming… a beating so bad with shovels, bull hooks, any instrument to cause her excruciating pain. Teach her a lesson… over and over and over again.
For something she did wrong. No matter how good Nosey was, it was never good enough.

Elephants in captivity SUFFER.

08/08/2024

It is unconscionably cruel to shoot highly habituated elephants for “sport”. As Moss, who is one of the leading Amboseli scientists, rightly points out, it is hardly “fair chase” or “ethical” to shoot an Amboseli bull with a high-calibre rifle.

Given how few big tuskers are left in the world (some estimates suggest fewer than 50), the agreement to leave the Amboseli population alone couldn’t be more important, not only for genetic heritage but for the sake of any future hope of human-elephant coexistence. Elephants are increasingly being born with smaller (or no) tusks in response to the rapacious history of poaching and trophy hunting for ivory over the past 200 years. Tuskless elephants have lost their essential “elephantness”.

We would like to share this excellent and well researched article by Dr. Ross Harvey on the trophy hunting of the cross-border Amboseli-West Kilimanjaro elephant population.

We’ve faced a lot of unhelpful, misplaced and unscientific comments from some influential conservationists, particularly after our letter, “Stop Elephant Hunting in Tanzania Borderlands,” was published in Science Magazine. Harvey rightly calls out these critics, stating, “We’re at risk of losing the world’s last super-tuskers, and some of the world’s top scientists are loudly defending trophy hunting while ignoring biological reality.”

is just around the corner, so we are asking you to please read this article and share it far and wide: https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/opinionista/2024-08-06-killing-of-5-elephants-from-kenyas-amboseli-sparks-major-row/
