Swank’s Strawberry Acres Established in 2020
We’re a home based hobby farm
Naming this farm was easy due to the whole property being covered in wild strawberry plants.

Everywhere you turn, these beautiful plants are there.

He’s finally been standing and walking! Gained so much weight. Little man is definitely coming out of the woods and is probably gonna be the friendliest of the bunch.

“Pink” and “Red” have gone to their new homes!
Pink left today and Red left yesterday. I’m glad to see they both found great homes. Red had been looked over so many times and she was such a sweetheart. 🥰

This handsome man is heading out to his new home today! His new parents have had a deposit on him since he was about 4 weeks old. He is definitely a very sweet and lucky little guy to be moving on to his own farm!
All our males have found new homes, we still have a few females left. If interested please PM me. 😊

Cute little photo op of our Honey and her piglets.
She came to us morbidly obese, hooves wayyyy too long, and barely walking. We’re happy to say she’s doing sooo much healthier now. And she seems much happier than before as well.

Here is an update on Chirp and Lloyd’s baby!
We did unfortunately have the peanut pass away a few days after birth as expected. This baby is growing and doing tremendous. Chirp is a fantastic momma. She pulled more than enough fur for this one baby.

Momma and babies are awfully thankful for that warm heat lamp during the cool days we’ve been having here lately.

Chirp and Lloyd finally gave us our first Netherland dwarf kits this week. Unfortunately we ended up with a peanut which is a harsh possibility when breeding dwarfs. Unfortunately it’s when the kit receives two copies of the dwarf gene and from my understanding, they rarely survive more than a week or two.
We chose not to cull and let chirp love on her babies until the peanut passed away this past thursday. Now we have the one lone sibling which will get extra lovings from everyone to make sure it doesn’t feel alone. Even though we didn’t have a great start off with them, we still adore the Netherland dwarfs.

They’re much bigger now but I love how adorable chickens are when freshly hatched!

The hives may look quiet but there’s two freshly placed nucleus colonies doing their thing inside each.
We’ve had bees for a few years and last fall we had a hive swarm. They did leave enough bees with a few queen cells to rebuild but with it being so close to winter and the wasps we had last year, we had lost the rest of my hive with wasps wiping the remainder of the bees out. This spring we cleaned out any debris in the hives, reused the good frames and got the new colonies set up right. They don’t even have to focus on building. Just filling their combs.
They’re such a relaxing thing to watch. And a cool experience to open up a hive and observe the inner going’s of it all.

First picture are of “light Brahmas” that my husband had been so happy to find for me! 😂 It wasn’t hard to take one look and regretfully inform him that not one of them were brahmas and it looked like he was given Easter eggers. Regardless, it was the thought that counted.
Second picture is some babies growing out wonderfully that I got for a steal at tractor supply! They were growing out of the bins so they were marked down to a $1 each. I took 20 home with me. I’d rather have 20 that are past that fragile hatchling stage than freshly hatched any day.

We started over with our chickens this year since we had such bad mice/rat problems last year and we needed to do some reconfiguring. After losing hundreds of $$ on chicks being taken by rats, I had had enough. Thankfully we haven’t had the same problem after being proactive during winter time and hopefully wiping out most of the problem before spring rolled around.

Names have finally been decided for the litter of 3 tri-color mini Rex’s we had born on the first of February!
The one buck’s name is Bingo and the two does are Dixie and Tango!
Bingo will be our son’s showmanship rabbit for 4-H since he is the most docile. Joe is still learning but trying his hardest!

Chirpy, our doe, FINALLY after all these months, lifted and let Lloyd breed with her. “Breeding like rabbits” isn’t always where you have so many babies all the time!
We’ve been trying with her since January to have some Netherland dwarf babies and have yet to see the little floofs. Hoping this time was the charm!
She had tried to castrate our poor boy and in so bit one of his testicles. We gave him antibiotics and kept his wound cleaned and taken care of. He has finally healed and I supervised very closely while letting him try again with her. I must say his attitude towards her changed dramatically 😂 he had tried being very nice and that got him bit. So this time around he was very feisty back, stomping his feet and letting her know who’s boss. She got the picture!

Fingers crossed in less than 30 days well have Netherland Dwarf babies!

This is squirrel! He is a Chestnut Netherland Dwarf Buck. We had ended up getting him around Easter when chirp, our doe, got a little too frisky with Lloyd, our other Buck, and tried to castrate him when trying to breed.
Rabbits can be brutal little things! 😅

We dug up some young black raspberries, red raspberries, and thinned out one of our strawberry spots. I love being over run by the berries in summer ❤️ we always have plenty to go around.

I believe it was last year, possibly the year before I had dug up a small strand of wild mint at my grandparents cabin. I loved smelling it while fishing and I thought it would be a sweet memento.
This spring it has come back in full force and it is gorgeous while smelling wonderfully. Just brushing your hand across the top gives you a sweet minty scent.

Red Raspberries are growing wonderfully.
I’m going to split some small ones off into pots before we get too late into the year. I absolutely love the color on new spring leaves!

I also just dug up wild black raspberries yesterday and potted them up so hopefully I can start a fresh patch next year.
