❄️⛄️With a cold snap in the weather due to be with us over the next week or so, we thought we'd share a few things to keep an eye on and tips for keeping safe and well in the cold!🥶
🪣Always check your water buckets first thing in the morning and last thing at night to check they haven't iced over.
🧣Don’t rug your horses based on how cold you are, but whether they actually need to be rugged. Be careful not to over rug your horse as it could lead to discomfort and skin conditions.
⛸️Take care on icy yards, especially when you're in a rush to get your horse out in the morning. Try and grit the night before!
🪱If you've still got your free winter wormer on our health plan (Equest Pramox), now is a good time to give it with a hard frost!
☀️There is a risk of the grass being more sugary on frosty sunny mornings, so try and wait to turn out any high risk laminitis horses until the frost has thawed.
🪨Very hard rutted ground might leave horses prone to sole bruising
🐎Keep a close eye in your horses legs and coat for early signs of mud fever or other skin conditions
