Meet Lil Kim and Corky! They have both been with us for a couple weeks now and are truly great dogs. They are both great with other dogs and also great with kids. They don't need to be adopted together whatsoever they just happened to have a field day together where a volunteer and her family took them for a walk for the day (more about volunteer opportunities once the chaos from the move is settled).
Lil Kim is a chunky, low rider terrier mix who has the great temperament. She is a hippie at heart who loves to give paw with her little T-Rex arms. She's about a year old.
Corky is 36 pounds and perfect little snack size pup for people who want a smaller dog but also one that can handle a good time.

We are almost there!
We have been working all spring and summer to move into the space next door which is double size of our current space! We're excited about having the dogs in a bigger space and having bigger areas for the dogs to meet their new owners.
This project has been a labor of love and a bit challenging at times
It's also been costly gathering all the things and hired help it took to put together.
In the spirit of $5 Friday, we sure could use some donations to wrap this project up!

Meet Shera! She is one of our longest residents. We aren't sure why other than she doesn't make a great first impression with meeting people. What is the impression you ask? Shera likes to greet people like it's a Friday night after work and you're picking up your BFF for a girls only weekend. She's happy, excited, over the moon, and acting like it's been a decade since she last saw you. Shera plays hard but also loves her cuddle time. She is almost a year old and about 35 pounds. We think she's a beagle mix, she got those floppy ears and a short body.
Shera was abandoned outside of a shelter in rural Mississippi. She was tied up outside and terrified. She's come a long way, and we would love for this girl to get her happily ever after. If you're interested in meeting Shera, please submit an application and we will arrange a time for you to meet her! Her adoption fee is sponsored.

Meet Floyd! He's been with us for 3 months. Why you ask? There must be a reason? We have no idea why! He's such a good boy! His fee is sponsored leaving extra funds for toys and bones! Floyd has been in foster and here's what they had to say.

" Floyd is a goofy, good boy! He has loved every dog, cat and human we have encountered especially children. He is completely potty trained and hasn’t had a single accident since we picked him up. He is crate trained and sleeps through the night. He has a good bit of energy and enjoys walking trails and running with other dogs at the dog park. He is your typical hound, incredibly smart, loving and leads with his nose! because of that we’ve found using a no pull harness has really helped while he is leashed."

Suzanne is such a sweet hound girl! She's been hanging out in foster getting her social skills in order and ready for her new family. She's been here for a couple months, and we really feel it's time for her to find her forever home. Could it be you? "Suzanne is a beautiful brindled lab, hound mix approximately 10 months old and 45 pounds. She is being fostered in a home where she has been learning basic skills and socialization. She has been working on her potty training and has come a long way a bit more work to do but very good most days. She’s good on a leash and loves walks, she’s good in a car, and she plays well with other dogs but likes her individual time as well. She’s good around kids and very playful. She is very smart and likes her routines and play time. She’s pretty quiet with the occasional bark when startled or when new visitors come to the door. She’s very friendly with and seems to connect with one person as her primary and stays with that person. She is crated comfortably at night with no accidents or noise. She is not super food motivated although enjoys treats and chews. She is a puppy so chew toys that squeak, and teething toys are a top favorite for her. She loves chasing frogs, bugs and moths. She’s a fast runner and has a fun a playful personality."

"Oh my goodness! The puppies you get are so cute!" "Where do you get them?" "How could people not want them?"
It's hard to imagine where the puppies come from when we post them looking so adorable after they arrive. They sometimes have nervous eyes and yet playful poses. They look fed, they're soft, they're curious.
Truth is, most of the puppies have seen some rough times. They were hungry, cold, trying to find shade in extremely hot temperatures, they have wormy bellies. Some were lucky enough to be raised with their moms, some had siblings to play with and some were solo. Our amazing Mississippi/Alabama partners nourish these puppies, worry to death about them and raise them like their own only to let them go to make room for the next litter and there's ALWAYS another litter. Heck, there's always several more litters. Most southern rescuers take in the puppies without a plan other than knowing they're the mom and pup's only hope. They hope they can find a rescue to help them finish the job of getting the puppies to a better life. That is not an easy task because there are so many puppies.
Please keep this in mind when deciding if you're going to choose to rescue or get a puppy some other way. Rescue puppies are fantastic little mutts, and most are so unique. They want love and give love like any other puppy.

Hi! It's me Benny! I wanted to say hi to everyone and thank you for your good thoughts and donations. I'm feeling pretty good these days!
My foster mom says it's getting to be time for me to find my "forever" family. I hope to have a say in where I go to start my "golden days" so thought I'd tell everyone a little about myself and the things I really like.
I came to Motley Mutts a little while ago. They said I could come North when they saw my picture in an overcrowded southern shelter. It was hard being in that place- there were lots of dogs barking and although the people were nice I was really glad to leave.
When I got to my foster home they started me on some new supplements and pain medicine. Boy did that help! Last week I had a dental and now I feel even better.
I heard them say my bloodwork looks pretty good for an old guy. They did discover I have arthritis in my back which is likely pushing on nerves and that makes my back legs weak. Whatever that all means- I don't worry too much about that.
What I do worry about is if there's enough food and treats for everyone. My foster mom assures me every day that there's enough, that I'll never go without. Even so, when it's time to eat I howl at her and that makes her move a little faster!
I like all the other dogs, but I don't really play. I'm past that stage; I like to sniff around, sometimes I'll play with a stuffie and then take a nap.
I really like the little boy in the house. He's so gentle when he pats me and he shares his stuffies with me. I don't beg for a lot of attention- mostly like a pat or two and to relax on the soft beds. Oh! That's another thing, I really like soft beds.
I can do the stairs ok, mostly mom carries me because they are getting to be a little hard. I hope my home doesn't have many stairs. BUT- that doesn't mean that you can just leave me downstairs while you go up for bed because I really like to be with my people. After breakfast and potty in the morning mom carries me back upstairs and I use the ramp to climb into the humans bed. I love that part.
So, if you have a lot of food, really good treats, soft beds and minimal stairs I think I'd like to meet you. I hear these are going to be the best days of my life and I can't wait.
