🎉 A HUGE thank you to all of our 2024 adopters and volunteers, especially those who came out during the holiday season! Your support was overwhelming, and you made this one of the best seasons we’ve ever had. The shelter is the emptiest it’s been in a long time thanks to YOU! 🐾💖

There are still a few sweet pups waiting for their forever homes, and we’re hoping they’ll find their new families to ring in 2025. If you’re looking to adopt, we’d love to help make that happen! 🏡✨

It’s been a year!

It’s been so much to process that we’ll be processing it for years to come but here’s what we managed to absorb.

It was a year of big wins and big losses

We nearly tripled our space this year and have been working out of it since the Fall. We have found homes for over 800 dogs this year, our biggest year yet. We have been so fortunate to meet some of what we would consider the best dogs ever. So resilient, so deserving, and so damn cute. We are fortunate to be able to do what we do. We look forward to 2025 to meet the new dogs that will cross our paths and find them the best homes while continuing to build on the new space.
With the new space we have welcomed more volunteer opportunities that have brought in a lot of great people who have been helping out. We’ve also maintained some of the loyal volunteers who have weathered this challenging transition with us along with our hard-working staff. Expanding was challenging, risky, and exhausting. Can we really pull this off? Will people come to help? The answer turned out to be yes. Many of you came to help with caring for the dogs, helping with projects, donating funds, and the Amazon deliveries (!!!). It was brutal at times, but you kept us going! This year we put the work into making a more solid foundation to sustain a place for dogs to find refuge hopefully for years to come. Unfortunately, we’ve noticed things get worse instead of better in the general rescue world, so this is a much-needed space.

We also have lost two of our biggest supporters to cancer this year. Kay Anderson who helped form Motley Mutts Rescue in 2020. She worked tirelessly fostering hundreds of dogs in her home along with her husband, bringing the dogs to vet appointments, counseling adopters, giving the tough cases a place to decompress. She spent countless hours raising funds that allowed us to buy our van. We also lost Doreen Baillargeon, the woman responsible for the thousands of handmade collars that were sent home with all the dogs that were adopted. She also fundraised outside of the collars. She was making collars for the pups for as long as she physically could. Losing these two truly gifted women was heartbreaking. We hope we continue to make them proud by carrying on the mission.

We wish health and happiness to all our pups and their adopters! We look forward to seeing you in 2025 at events, the kennel, social media, or just out in the real world.

Allow us to reintroduce Arnold!

Arnold is a lovable senior mixed breed, estimated to be around 8–10 years old. This sweet, gentle giant has been waiting far too long for a home to call his own—through no fault of his own.

Arnold has been with us for over three months and hasn’t received any interest, despite being an absolute gem. He’s the perfect mix of calm and friendly. He loves everyone, walks wonderfully on a leash, and waits quietly in his kennel, which we think might be why he’s often overlooked.

Arnold’s favorite pastime? Carrying sticks on his walks—the bigger, the better! He gets along great with other dogs his size but isn’t a fan of small dogs or cats.

We’re hoping to find Arnold his forever home, but fostering would also make a world of difference for this special boy. His adoption fee is waived for any approved adopter.

Arnold is currently at the kennel and available for meet-and-greets. You can schedule an appointment or stop by during our open house hours to meet him.

Peach’s puppies to brighten up this rainy Thursday. They’ve started opening their eyes and finding their voices! 🐾

Corky got adopted in a sweet ride this week! Congratulations buddy!

Miss Chief would love to spend this beautiful weather learning to walk on a leash and exploring hikes with a new forever friend. She is about 35 pounds with a little growing to do so she’s the perfect take along size! She’s 9 months old, crate trained and gets along with other dogs. We have no idea if she thinks cats are friends or foes. If you would like to meet Miss Chief please fill out an application. We also have Open House hours Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week.

Parton took a snooze through Open House and forgot she was supposed to be trying to find her forever human. We’re still taking applications for this cutie pie, how is that possible?

Ethel waited a whole year in a shelter in Mississippi waiting to be adopted. A home never came but rescue did! Ethel is such a joy to have around and super chill! Motley Mutts Rescue

Motley Mutts Rescue was formed by a few friends wanting to rescue dogs. Our goal is to offer support to the rescuers in the south, primarily Mississippi, and provide loving homes for the dogs they rescue. We have two licensed homes in New Hampshire where people can meet and adopt dogs by appointment. We rescue any size, breed mix, or age.
