Baby has found a home!

Some days farm life is easy. Other days you find yourself in the barn using your shirt to clean babies. Leia was attacked by a dog a few weeks ago and hasn’t been well since. We didn’t think she was bred because she had no bag and wasn’t showing. Today I found her in labor with a baby stuck. I pulled the first one and the second came out right after. One little boy survived and Leia is too exhausted to take care of him. She has no milk, so this will be a bottle baby. He needs a home pronto!

If you were wondering how fast I can run, the answer is “not faster than a largely pregnant fainting goat with a bucket stuck on her neck”. 🤪

While checking goats and feeding this evening, I realized Betty had given birth to a doeling. As I was trying to put Betty and her newborn in a stall, Maggie escaped. Then I had to force Maggie back into her stall where her twins were screaming for her. I had brought out an empty bucket to haul water. Apparently Ditto thought the bucket should be checked just in case it contained tasty treats and she wound up turning it into a necklace. After much running, lunging, coaxing, and fence climbing, I realized I should work smarter and not harder. I went and got treats. Ditto slipped her head out of the bucket and walked away like nothing ever happened. I probably got more cardio in those 10 minutes than I have in 10 years. 🤣

A baby boom has started here on our little farm! We are up to 11 baby goats for the season and today Maevis gave us 8 little valentine aussies!
