Brothers Joseph and Travis Matt of Stratford love their dogs. And they love their motorcycles.

Joseph owns Remi, a Great Dane, and rides a Yamaha V Star 1100. Joseph has been riding for about five years.

Travis owns Lilith, a five-year-old Pressa Canario. Lilith is the third dog that Travis has owned and jokes that she’s too big to sit on the back of his motorcycle, otherwise she would be riding along with him.

This summer, the pair decided to participate in as many Poker Runs as they could. A Poker Run is an event where participants travel over a designated route and pick a playing card at five different spots. The object is to have the best poker run at the end of the day.

Joseph and Travis have signed up to attend the Niagara Dog Rescue’s 3rd Annual Ride4Paws Poker Run on Sept. 7, 2024. The NDR Ride4Paws Poker Run starts in Niagara on the Lake, ON travels 130 km through Southern Ontario and ends up in Niagara Falls, ON.

Funds raised will benefit Niagara Dog Rescue, a registered charity run 100 per cent by volunteers. The rescue focuses on dogs at high risk of being euthanized and those that have been abused and abandoned and find them loving homes in Ontario. NDR was started in 2015 and is approaching having saved 10,000 dogs in that time.

The Ride4Paws registration includes snacks along the way (coffee, doughnuts, and ice cream) and a BBQ at the end. First prize for the best poker hand is The Ultimate 3 Hour Supercar Experience For 2! From Ultimate Exotics. The 3 HR Supercar Experience is an all-inclusive driving experience that gets you behind the wheel of up to 5 of the world's top exotics and supercars.

The public is invited to the BBQ at the end of the ride at Willoughby Fire Hall, 11208 S***m Rd. Niagara Falls. There will be a 50/50 draw and raffles, including prizes such as two passes for Niagara Parks attractions ($435 value), Blue Jays tickets, CAA membership, restaurant gift cards and wine tastings.
