I know I’ve posted already about this walk, but I can’t help sharing why it means so much to us…and Mya. We’re not quite where we hoped with our goal, but we are confident that we can get there with your help. (Update: Since this post we reach our goal and are so thankful! We have updated our goal to reach a little further).

When we heard about a blind and deaf senior screaming in a shelter (yes, they used the words screaming), we knew we had to get to her. Needless to say, my Circ de Soliel plans were cut short – I couldn’t stop thinking about this scared girl – and I beelined it home, grabbed some dog necessities, and headed to Bolton.

I remember every moment from that evening. But the most touching was how Chase and Mya bonded instantly. When Chase lifted Mya from the car, she was shaking so violently, I thought she would fall out of his arms. He pulled her close to him, nuzzled her head and said, “I’ve got you,” and she melted into him. She may not have been able to hear him, but she could feel it – like she knew she was home. 💖 That night, she slept soundly in the crook of his arm – and she’s been there ever since.

People often ask why we would consider choosing a senior. They say it’s too hard knowing that their time is fleeting. Yes – our time with Mya will be shorter than we are prepared for, and our hearts will break sooner than we are ready. But we will sacrifice this future heartbreak to ensure that Mya’s heart is made whole in the time she has with us. This is our promise to her.

Mya didn’t have a fighting chance at the shelter, and she needed us to fight for her. This walk is our commitment to stand up for all the Boston Terriers who need or will need BTRC’s help.

This is my foster dog, Mya. When she arrived in my care in January, we weren’t sure she would survive the intense medical care she needed – her health was just too unstable.

Blind. Deaf. 14 years old with Cushing’s disease, a cancerous mass, a failing liver, broken and infected teeth and dangerously high eye pressure. I was heartbroken when people would tell me that she wasn’t worth all the money BTRC was putting into her; that we should let nature take its course. They didn’t see her worth.

Mya is so much more than what some people see. I truly believe Mya was gifted to me by the universe. After my dad passed, I didn’t feel like I would ever feel joy again. My heart was shattered, and I never thought it possible that it could be whole again. Caring for Mya has begun to piece together my heart, and for the first time in a long time, I feel hope. I am so thankful for the gift of this precious girl.

I am proud to be part of an organization that does not overlook any dog. We fight hard to advocate for life-saving care, and we work tirelessly to raise money for these deserving pups.

In January, we were unsure whether Mya would survive. Now, against all odds, in September, she will walk 5k. She has been given a second chance, and this walk will help her continue on her course of health, happiness, and resilience. This walk will give so many more dogs a happily-ever-after, too.
