An American Paint Horse gelding with PSSM1 & MIM (PSSM2) (N/P1, N/P3, N/P8) displaying the symptom depression while symptomatic, other symptoms this horse was displaying at the time was tightness, and exercise intolerance.
This is a good example of depression as you can see the ears are pinned, listless expression, and the horse has lost the spark is his eye.
It took a few weeks but once this gelding was managed again symptoms ceased, and this horse got his spark back again.
This gelding responded to MIM management, however never returned to competitive dressage again due to secondary issues caused by the myopathy.
He now participates in trail riding/hacking out, and in hand competitions with his owner, although he has periods like this one of becoming symptomatic again.

This gelding also presented with a number of other symptoms and unfortunately had to be euthanized because he did not respond to MIM management and his symptoms got progressively worse.
It is not yet known why some horses respond to management and some do not, but it’s something we hope to find out more on in the future.

An American Paint Horse gelding with PSSM1 & MIM (PSSM2) (N/P1, N/P3, N/P8) displaying the symptom of breathing issues, which can be heard through noisy breathing and a rasp and catch to the breath.
Horses with PSSM1 suffer breathing issues through being symptomatic.
Horses with MIM (PSSM2) can also suffer breathing issues because of this, but breathing issues can also be caused by natural progression of the disease.
It has been observed in autopsied MIM (PSSM2) horses that there is a narrowing in the trachea.
This gelding responded to MIM management, however never returned to competitive dressage again due to secondary issues caused by the myopathy.
He now participates in trail riding/hacking out, and in hand competitions with his owner, although he has periods of becoming symptomatic again.

An Anglo-Arab with MIM (PSSM2) (N/P2, N/P8) displaying the symptom of canter issues, what can be seen here is bounding which is cantering with both hind legs, this is related to tight muscles, the horse reacts to this by bucking in frustration but we can see the bucks are not able to get alot of height as the horse is unable to buck properly due to the muscles being tight.
This horse also displayed a number of other symptoms too, but his prognosis was extremely positive, he responded very well to MIM management and is now back to normal, he is being ridden daily, with him and his owner participating in hunting, cross country, and schooling with great success.
