Cats have played a variety of roles in human society, including holding down certain "jobs", like catching mice on ships, and guarding books. Did you know that the relationship between cats and libraries is centuries old?⁠

🏛️ Monastic records from the Middle Ages show that cats were kept in medieval monasteries to control rats that threatened valuable manuscripts.⁠

One of my favourite stories is about Dewey, a library cat who brought joy and companionship to an entire community. 🐾✨⁠

Today, we shine a spotlight on our sleek and stunning black feline friends. These majestic cats are often misunderstood, but they bring just as much love, joy, and charm as any other kitty! 🐱✨

Black cats are symbols of mystery, elegance, and luck in many non-North American cultures. They deserve all the love and appreciation every day, but today we give them a little extra!

I’m also excited to introduce you to Starry, the main cartoon character in my upcoming book, "The Ins and Outs of Cat Carriers: A Veterinarian's Guide to Cat Carriers." Starry embodies the grace and beauty of black cats, and you’ll love following her adventures.

My adventure cat Boo and I had a cat-astic . 🌉 Boo loved the treehouse-like Treetops Adventure and tried to go back when we were leaving. 🌲 He got lots of exercise, mental stimulation, attention, and fresh air there. Have you been there with your cat or dog?

🐱 Did you know? Free feeding dry food or leaving it out all the time for cats is generally not recommended.

Here’s why:

1. Weight Control: Free feeding can lead to obesity. Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for your cat’s overall well-being.

2. Health Monitoring: It’s hard to tell when your cat is eating less, which is often the first sign of illness. Early detection leads to better treatment outcomes.

3. Training: It’s harder to train your cat with treats when they’re already full.
Instead of free feeding dry food, measure out healthy portions.

If you’re unsure, ask your vet for guidance. Use meal feeders and food puzzles to make mealtime more engaging and manageable for your feline friend. 🐾

Finding light in the darkest of days 💡 Yesterday, after a tough day at work, witnessing the suffering of animals, I still showed up to my third comedy show produced by the talented .marissalithopoulos and brought some laughter to the crowd. In moments like these, I think that’s what really counts. ✌️

P.S. The biggest laughs came from an impromptu joke about beaver fever. Do you know what that is? 🦫
