A truly lovely day out showing today.

PJ bagged a 2nd in the m&m and showed improvement in her performance, with lots of lovely comments and tips on how to get the best out of her.

And Jenny Scott’s Frank got a 1st and a 2nd at his first ever show!

Both ponies were a delight to take out and run, and Jenny and I behaved too!!

The pony that shouldn’t have survived! But thank goodness he did. A year of having this little man where the love he gives out weighs all the trauma we’ve been through. Now he can enjoy his younger years being properly loved and cared for like he always deserved.❤️

A very busy weekend with two shows!!

First up was my girl Pickles at Brook Stud. This is the first she has been out since her one show last year, and she has improved so much! As many know, Pickles hasn’t been the easiest to work with over the years but she seems to have grown up a lot since bringing her home and having her on a ‘big girl yard’ with routine and other ponies to learn from.

Her behaviour was impeccable (can hardly believe I’ve said that about her!) and she placed well amongst some big horses.
She came home with a 4th in the 2&3yo class and a 5th in the Native with some really lovely comments from the judge. I’m so pleased with how she went, and as she enjoyed it I will crack on with her now.

Then yesterday it was little PJs first ever show! She is new to me and we are still learning eachother, but took to showing very well. I think she enjoyed all the attention! Despite still being in her winter woolies, she bagged a second in the m&m and beat some big horses too! Very pleased with how she went and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season with her.

It’s all go here at the minute!! There’s a lot to catch up on!!

Firstly, Pickles is back!! As she is 3 this year, and with our great progress last year, I decided to try her with a little bit of ‘learning’. We can now lunge😁 Not only that, but I have her on the main yard with me where she gets lead in and out with bigger horses and is learning how to be a grown up. She’s taken to this very well.

Secondly, it was moving day!
The donkeys are now enjoying a new field, and they all lead beautifully through the village to their destination.

Now something I’m VERY suprised about, and also got quite emotional over (ew) is Maverick. Mavvy is completely unhandled. Last time I lead him was off the box into the field, and to cut a long story short it turns out he’s a bolter 😂😂
I’ve left him to enjoy his childhood and watch the others get handled. And he’s slowly but surely started to want to get involved. Now, the new field was a 5 minute walk through the village, which for most would be easy. But bare in mind we have not done any leading, or seen any of the big world since he’s been here.

Today I pressed the ‘f**k it’ button as Rowan calls it, and I lead him through the village 😂 I could’ve chased him into the trailer, but I chanced it. Wrecklessly I must say. But it paid off!!! He had to trust me and it worked! So him and William are now with Badger enjoying some grass🥰🥰🥰 Huge success!!

I’ll let him process that then crack on with him I think.

Roger and Ni**od are currently enjoying a holiday at Aunty Caroline’s, where they’re getting absolutely spoilt - as they should be. Because we all know there’s no 2 ponies with bigger egos than them 🙄😂 But, in my eyes, Roger can do what he wants. After a very scary few weeks over Christmas where he became very unwell, the fact he’s fit and happy enough to go on holiday is a huge win and he can go and get fat and happy. Nim just happy preferably 😂😂

Now for some dry weather to up our training 😭🤞🏻

I was 10 minutes late for work today. Why? Because I gave those 10 minutes to this boy below.
The same boy I taught to eat hard feed only a few months ago.
The little boy who puts his whole trust into me and fell asleep resting on my lap.
The same boy, along with all the others, who wait patiently to see me after work every day, whatever time that is.
After everyone else’s animals are cared for, it’s their turn and they never kick off. They are just grateful.
And for that, I spared him those 10 minutes because they meant more to him than the 10 minutes I could’ve spent at work.

Pickles’ turn today!!

Now Pickles told me last year she wasn’t ready for showing. I feel she is a very bright, and intelligent pony but she is also less mature than William mentally, despite being the same age.
I made the decision to let her stay at lovely Caroline’s for lots of kisses and cuddles and to enjoy being a baby. This meant I could focus on William, who was raring to go. Caroline has done a fantastic job with her, and I felt I’d give it another try at showing her today to see how she felt.

We went to Lower Haddon, not to be competitive, but to nurse her around. She was up against ponies bigger and older than her, and I’m not naive to the fact she’s going through a growth spurt - so doesn’t look her best!

The aim with my babies is to get them out as much as they’re happy with whilst they are young, to hopefully make it less of a novelty when they are older and look the part. That way their manners should be perfect for the ring.

This meant I was prepared, and expecting, some ‘pickle’ behaviour, but she proved me wrong and I ate my words!!! Albeit a tad bulshy, she stood very well in the lineup for the M&M and gave me a controlled trot. I was thrilled! Due to her being so perfect in that class, I chose to withdraw her from the rest of the day to end it on a high. I don’t like to fry my babies’ brains just for a rosette.

It’s difficult showing babies, especially when they aren’t looking the part, you get comments and looks which tend not to bother me. As I know that I am giving her as good of an experience as I can and slowly producing ready for when she’s older. I don’t come from money, so I can’t buy the ones that are born standing in a perfect square halt and flick their toes! I do my best and work with what I’ve got.

Some may not agree and that’s okay.

But I was right about Pickles, and her and I both enjoyed it today.

That’s what it’s all about ❤️

Thrilled with William at the North Somerset Show yesterday in a strong class of 2and 3yos.

Went with the expectations of it not being his day, and not naive to the fact it won’t be his year either, however he put on his best show yet and tried very hard!

To celebrate he got straight on the gin as any member of my team would 😉

Thrilled with the boys’ first outing of the year. Up against the big boys for the yearling and 2yo classes.

Both were, surprisingly, on their best behaviour and gained a respectable 4th and 5th.

Looking forward to the rest of the season now!!
