Cat Coalition of Acadia Parish This page is designed to bring attention to and address the problem of cat overpopulation in Acadia Parish and the surrounding areas.

This page is designed to bring attention to the problem of cat overpopulation in Acadia Parish and the surrounding areas. Amber Richard, who lives in the area, has been working tirelessly in her spare time and using most of her disposable income to spay/neuter as many cats as she can in her parish, but she needs our collective help in order to make a bigger impact. Amber knows of several colonies

that need to be fed, managed, and spay/neutered. You can help by volunteering or donating cat food, gas gift cards, or sponsoring more cats to be fixed. We’ll be issuing press releases on this subject, encouraging elected officials to get involved, and asking businesses, local civic associations, and foundations for their support. Together, we hope that within the next two to three years, we can significantly reduce the number of feral cats that continue to reproduce.

Update from the Humane Society of Louisiana: Can we have a huge high-five for Congressman Troy Carter (D - Louisiana 2nd - District)? Once more, Congressman Carter has co-authored an important piece of humane legislation at our nation's Capitol. During his first week in office, Congressman Carter also co-signed the Save the American's Forgotten Equines Act (SAFE) which would have prohibited the transportation of horses for slaughter in the US. The bill did not pass, but Congressman Carter continues to use his office to protect the lives of animals on a regular basis.

We worked closely with Congressman Carter when he was a state representative and senator on pro-animal legislation, and he's been a champion ever since. Please thank Congressman Carter for his tireless efforts to protect the animals we all care about.

Troy, once more, you make us proud and grateful for the work you do for our state and the animal welfare community! Thank you, Troy A. Carter!
