For those of you who train recall with a whistle I have just purchased a new #acmewhistles. Alpha whistle and definitely recommend it 🥰
I wouldn’t recommend having two puppies especially from the same litter … but the same rules apply especially for two ! Show them how to walk nicely with manners , this is especially important as when they grow they can be a handful 🥰
So now at 12 weeks she is allowed out on the lead … because we practiced with the lead well before she could go out there is no issue there at all . Obviously due to her age most of the walk she is carried as I don’t want to damage her joints , she won’t be out for longer walks until she is around a year old ….. but whilst I am able to easily carry her I will continue to do that !
Happy puppy 🥰
Getting used to a lead is something you can get your puppy used to before they can go out ….allow them to play with it and just get used to it . I always use a slip lead , make sure it’s loose around their neck and there is no pressure on it ( the lead has to be a positive tool ) as you can see here the puppy is more than happy to follow with me it on …… we will slowly build it up from here …the earlier you start the easier it is to train them to walk beside you , making walking fun for you and your dog 🥰
recall with the whistle , at 10 weeks recall isn’t fully established but by using “happy voice “ along side the whistle we get there …. Doesn’t have o be perfect at this stage but it’s the start of the ground work for later when she can go out🥰
9 weeks and learning to sit without treats and to the whistle , at this age they are like little sponges taking everything in 🥰😊
I often get asked when is the best time to start training your puppy ….. and my answer is …as soon as your new puppy arrives 😊 you are very limited as to what you can do with a new puppy but there are some simple things you can easily do 1/ take your puppy out in the car as often as you can and not on your knee in the space where you are going to travel them so they get used to being away from you
2/ get puppy used to being in a crate or a safe area on its own so that it can rest and also have down time , this should never be done as a punishment and should always be a positive experience 3/ get the basics for obedience …. Sitting before meals which you can practice through the day …. Giving a treat to help is an easy “cheat “ 4/ house training …. Puppy will need to go out after meals , sleeps , play etc etc if they have an accident it’s never their fault it’s usually the owner not watching ( I am guilty of this too 😂😂)
A puppy is hard work and getting a pup should not be taken lightly but they are fun and very rewarding 🥰🥰
You are welcome to follow the journey with Dilys …. She is now 9 weeks … we have a good sit command , she has travelled a lot in the car and has been introduced to a lead so far 🥰
