This past weekend I took a last-minute trip to Rhode Island, and Pax got to tagalong!

He got so much needed one on one time, met lots of other border collies, chased some squirrels, and tagged along to a new restaurant.🐾

We are hoping to go on a family trip in the next few months to a place and none of us have ever been. (Hint: 🍂⛰️)

Rainy mornings☔️

Pax is the perfect pup to tag along on rainy day outings. He’s perfectly happy to relax and watch the world go by. 🐾

Paws down the best chews🙌🏻🐾

Earlier this year, Pixie fractured a tooth, which led to an extraction and a change in her chew style. A dog that once loved yak chews and antlers now has to play it safe.

That’s where comes into play! They have a wide array of chews, ones for light chewers (or those with special considerations), and larger chews for those heavy chompers (like Pax)!

What matters more to you: emotion💚 or behavior🧠?

Now this is tricky- because the two are so tightly intertwined. But when we break it down, you can see that while emotion drives behavior, we can sometimes forget that and ‘train’ our dogs into just doing what we want.

For example, Pixies sees outside time as playtime. Which is fine, but sometimes she needs to take a break. I have two options:

1️⃣ Put her on place in a downstay- she can totally ‘do’ this but she is fidgety, scanning the environment, and ready to go at the mention of her release word.

2️⃣ Give her a calming activity, such as a snuffle mat, and provide a comfortable area to rest. Once she is settled I can calmly reward with gentle pets and treats.

One of these options is setting her up to *feel* calmer, and the other is simply stopping her from being in motion.

⬇️THIS is what dog training means to me

Training my dogs doesn’t mean they’ll have the tightest heel or longest down stay- what it does mean is they get to join me in life’s greatest adventures!

Whether we are traveling, going to a dog friendly event, or trying a new coffee shop, Pax and Pixie get to join!🙌🏻

We have worked together to give them the necessary skills so we all feel calm and confident in most any situation. I love that they never have to ‘miss out’ and get to live their lives to the fullest!

About 20 minutes later we were stuck in a downpour🤪

Pax and Pixie absolutely loved this new trail, and we didn’t even cover half of it! Definitely looking forward to the fall weather where the dogs are more tolerant about spending time outside🍂
