Potty Training Basics 🐩💩

Most people don’t put up with a dog leaving a stinky mess; being greeted by a heavy smell and rug to be cleaned after a hard day at work is not ideal, right? Indeed, house soiling is the top reason why dogs lose their homes and end up in shelters. I have a few friends who love their dogs by heart but jokingly talking about their plans of getting rid of them because they are messy.

But, hey! Those little guys are really smart and can learn quickly. Dogs are actually much better at potty training compared to us. It takes at least 2 years for us to be potty trained and some of us have issues with it towards the end of our terms as well! Dogs have smaller bladders and bowels and don’t have complete control over the muscles involved. So don’t be harsh on them. You know what? They love you very much and they don’t want to upset you at all. 💞❤️🥰

It is very common that cats and dogs do get diarrhea! The duration and consistency of the stool may vary from cat to cat and dog to dog. In this writing, we will be providing safe and effective natural remedies to medication from your medicine cabinet that can help your beloved pet and you.

Let’s get started with triggers that may cause diarrhea in your pet.
- Food intolerance
- Change in diet
- Dietary indiscretion
- Allergies
- Parasites
- Poisoning or indigestion of plants
- Swallowing indigestible object
- Viral or bacterial infections
- Illnesses
- Medication

Signals along diarrhea that your dog may require medical attention
- Frequent vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite
- Deep unresponsiveness and inactivity
- Diarrhea that lasts longer than 48 hours.

Natural home remedies should be your first treatment to stop the diarrhea. We recommend 24 hour white rice water fasting or Pumpkin.

If these natural home remedies will not help within 12 hours you may also try oral administration of bismuth subsalicylate (PeptoBismol™). We do not recommend PeptoBismol™ for cats (PeptoBismol is toxic for felines) but it is very safe for dogs. Dosage should be provided as 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of the dogs weight every 6 hours until pets digestion system is functioning fine. Do not use more than 4 consecutive days.

In case of a severe Diarrhea, you may also give your dog loperamide (Imodium AD™), which will help reducing fluid loss. Standard size capsule is 2mg each and can be given to a 40-45 pound dog, which is approximately 0.05mg per pound of dogs weight once every 8-12 hours.

If the symptoms get worse or your pet is still not feeling his or her best contact to your vet for further advice.
