This Tuesday is International Day of Friendship so make some plans with your bestie today!

Taking a walk together is a great way to spend the day, but if the heat's got you down, walk around the mall or hit up a pool. If you do brave the weather and you've got a pup along with you, make sure to sunscreen them if necessary and protect their feet from hot pavement.

Bring water for them or make sure there is water where you are going. Let's beat the heat and celebrate our friendships simultaneously!

We’re celebrating all those slithery friends today! 🐍 Below you’ll find some tips for if you run into a snake in the wild

Keep your distance, don’t give it a reason to feel threatened

If it were to bite you, assume it is venomous and seek medical care right away, better safe than sorry

They are typically protected so don’t kill them, unless you’d like to face some legal consequences

Tell them thanks for all the work they do in keeping the rodent population under control

With the sun and green all around we enjoy farmer's market season here in Colorado!

Here are some things to know if you plan to take your pup along:
- there will be lots of people and other pets, make sure yours is comfortable in crowds on a leash
- there may be pet specific vendors, some even have samples so keep your eyes peeled
- there may be samples of fallen human food on the ground or even trash, so be aware if your pooch eats everything
- it will be hot and sunny most days, bring water
- you never know when the bathroom urge will strike, have doggie bags on hand

It’s What a Pet Wednesday so please enjoy the lovely Jasmine!

This sweet thing is feisty off leash but a perfect angel on leash. 😇 She is cautious but over time has gained courage to greet people and even children.

If she trusts you, you can stop and stoop down then she will rush into your arms and give you a hug. đŸ„° Run with her in the snow and you’ll qualify for best friend status!

We hope you have the opportunity today to honor any loved pets who have passed on. We stand with you and offer this poem in their memory:

My Forever Pet

There's something missing in my home, I feel it day and night. I know it will take time and strength before things feel quite right.

But just for now, I need to mourn, my heart it needs to mend. Though some may say it's 'just a pet', I know I've lost a friend.

You've brought such laughter to my home and richness to my days. A constant friend through joy or loss, with gently loving ways.

Companion, pal and confidante, a friend I won't forget. You'll live for always in my heart, my sweet forever pet.

On this Tips for You Tuesday, we're letting you know that today is Hug Your Cat Day!

However not all, in fact most, cats may prefer not to be hugged. So here are some ideas for how to celebrate this feline focused holiday...

- Help them with their grooming and give them a good brushing
- Offer them a new or a favorite tasty treat
- Sprinkle or spray catnip around the house
- Put on some bird tv so they connect with their wild roots

Happy World Turtle Day 4th Demention friends!

Merv here is part of the 4D Family but did you know there are several species of turtle that are native to Colorado?

These include; softshells, snapping, box and painted turtles plus more! Each wild turtle is important to the ecosystem from which it comes, so remember to respect them when you find them in nature.

If you live near turtle habitats, here are some things to keep in mind;

High boat wakes may damage shorelines in lake and wetland habitats

Removing plant materials will degrade the key features and undermine the food chain in natural habitats.

Walking or driving on sandy nesting areas will damage these areas.

We don't want it to be you hanging up these flyers in the future, so let's all take note that it's National Chip your Pet Month!

And if you know your pets already have chips, make sure the personal information linked to them are accurate. Typically when a pet is microchipped the provider who places it gives you paperwork detailing how to access of update this information. It may take some digging to find it, but it's worth it!

If you simply cannot find it, take your pet somewhere to be scanned, and that will bring up the information you need. Trust us, it's worth it!

National Bird Day is tomorrow so we wanted to remind you about the birds of prey here along the Front Range.

The majority of raptors in this region are falcons, eagles, hawks, owls, kites, and vultures. More than one of these winged beasts could make off with a small pet from your own backyard so here are some safety tips;

Don't ground feed birds, If you have small birds frequenting your yard, it will draw the attention of larger birds.

Make sure there is cover for your pet when left outside, this could include trees, a covered run, a even a "catio".

Put multiple pets out at once or play outside with them yourself.

Don't feed pets outdoors as they would then be distracted and easy prey for a large bird.

Tomorrow is National Specially Abled Pets Day, so if you know a pet like this, please remind them that they are perfect just the way they are!

Conditions that one of these pets may live with include;

Blindness
Deafness
Loss of limb
Mobility issues
Chronic diseases such as diabetes

And next time you consider adding a furry member to the family, make sure you take note of those special kiddos who may have difficulties finding a home that might benefit greatly from your patience, generosity and kindness.

It’s National Scoop the P**p Week so Tigger and her horsey want us to share some facts with you đŸ’©

This celebration of responsible pet owners started 22 years ago and aims to remind people why the should improve or continue this poo poo pickup practice.

Pet waste can be harmful to people, pets, wildlife and plants by allowing distribution of harmful bacteria and excess nutrients into the environment. It’s estimated that the pet dogs of America produce 10 million tons of waste each year, that puts us in deep doo doo, unless we all do do our part!!

If you don’t like picking up the p**p yourself, there are many companies who help, or make it more fun by playing music while you work. If the smell is holding you back, get some nicely scented sniff patches for your clothes, that way you can refresh your nostrils when the stinky smells start to build.

Each year, the second week of April is meant to understand and honor those in professions that involve animal control.

These personnel risk life and limb when working to relocate animals to safer places and they undergo extensive training to do so.

The National Animal Care & Control Association was founded in 1978. It was created to provide resources, standardized training, support, and a means of communication for all animal care and control professionals across the country.

Historically those in this line of work may have been referred as "dog catchers" but this term is a negative one and doesn't capture the full breadth of these folks' jobs.

Make sure you know the number for your local animal control team incase you think you see a potentially dangerous animal or an animal who needs help finding it's way home. And make sure to thank them when you do enlist their help!

Did you know that today is “Take a Walk in The Park Day”?

Rather than your neighborhood park though, try walking in your Colorado state parks! Two parks, Cherry Creek and Chatfield include fenced-in off leash areas, while nearly all others have miles and miles of gorgeous trails that are leashed pet friendly. This is a fabulous way to introduce your pup to new sights, sounds and maybe even species (hopefully none that are large and carnivorous though).

State parks also may offer places for your pooch to swim, though we’re not sure the ice will be melted just yet đŸ€” Check with your local library for *free* rentable state park passes!

Earth day is coming up in April and we want to encourage you to take a look at your pet's toys.

Are any of them plastic? This year's Earth Day theme is planet vs. plastics so we challenge you to swap out future plastic purchases for plastic free products.

If you need a place to start looking, check "the kind pet" website, where you'll find a plastic free toys shopping collection.

Or, if your pet already has a favorite toy that is plastic free, tell us about it in the comments!

Walnut wants you to know its National Poison Prevention Week, so keep reading to learn how you can protect your pets!

Straight from the "Pet Sitters International" website;

"Many items commonly found around our homes can be dangerous to pets, including:

For dogs:
Chocolate, particularly bakers and dark chocolate.
Xylitol, the sweetener used in sugarless gums and candies, as well as some medications.
NSAIDS, such as ibuprofen and naproxen found in products like Advil and Aleve.
Over the counter cough, cold and allergy medications.
Rodenticides (mouse poison).

For cats:
Lilies and all plants in the Lilium species, such as Easter, Tiger and Asiatic lilies.
Household cleaners that are concentrated, such as toilet bowl or drain cleaners.
Flea and tick treatments that are created for use on dogs.
Antidepressants, such as Cymbalta and Effexor

And,

In 2022, recreational drugs like ma*****na joined the top 10 list.

Pet owners (and pet sitters) should contact their veterinarian or a pet poison helpline immediately if they suspect their pets have ingested a potentially toxic item."

Here at 4th Demention we care for any and all pets. To prove this point, Sir Didymus here is a pet that we have an axo-lotta fun visiting!

Axolotls are fully aquatic salamanders who can live into their teenage years and re-grow body parts. When it's time to feed Sir Didymus we offer a nice juicy worm and wait for the big chomp.

If you or someone you know has a unique pet that needs care while their parents are away, look no further than 4th Demention. See our website in our bio for pricing, helpful information and to book with us!

Tomorrow is K9 Veterans Day and these pups have served in so many heroic ways!

To name a few; search and rescue and drug or explosives detection. Dogs in the military historically have also helped to deliver critical communications, or access areas where humans weren't able to enter.

These pups form incredible bonds with their handlers and often look forward to their duties eagerly. It takes very specific personality traits in a dog to qualify them for such work. They need to be focused and in peak mental and physical condition at all times.

If you want to honor or help these four legged heroes, find a K9 veteran non profit to donate to locally or online, or if you want to change a life, adopt a retired one!

These procedures reduce the risk of multiple health conditions including uterine infection, mammary tumors and testicular cancer.

They also help with overpopulation, and therefore aid in preventing overfilled shelters.

Finally, these procedures can help prevent behavioral issues like territory marking, wandering or aggression.

It’s National Pet Dental Health Month and Aria’s story is a cautionary one đŸŠ· (shared with permission)

When she was a kitten her parents were on top of dental care, trying their best to brush her teeth and giving her water additives and dental treats. But as the years went by, they eventually stopped these preventative measures as life changed and other things took their attention.

Fast forward to 2024, Aria suddenly stopped eating her dry food and was rapidly losing weight. Through her 8 years of life she had never had any issues and her parents were naturally concerned. They did realize though that her breath had been noticeably worse the last few months but didn’t think much of it until now.

At the vet Aria was diagnosed with moderately severe dental disease. She immediately received antibiotics to fight the infection that the dental issues had caused and pain medication to get her more comfortable. A week later she had a procedure where 5 teeth were removed, and she will soon have another where 4 more will be removed.

Even though dental disease can strike pets with the best oral hygiene, and pets who have never been cared for that way may not end up with any, preventative actions as mentioned above are the only thing pet parents can do to help their fluffy kiddos.

Do something for your pet’s dental health today!
