Plucked birds are beautiful, too!

Adoptable bird spotlight:

Adopt Zeco! Zeco is one handsome Blue & Gold macaw who just happens to like a little extra skin showing. He's been with TGF for several years, and was relinquished to us when his owner moved and decided that he could not move too. He's very social, good with a variety of people and has a robust appetite. He's missing some of parts of his toes from old injuries, most likely in the nestbox, prior to coming to us. He will step up but we think he likes the security of gripping on to a towel because it's less wobbly and slippery than skin on the hand or arm. He is used to being around other parrots and macaws, and so deserves a home. He's comfortable in a travel carrier, likes to go for car rides, and can sit outside with his family and take in the Vitamin D. Just be careful of sunburn since he doesn't have feathers to protect his skin. If he can go on ground walk-abouts, even better for him as it's excellent exercise for his feet and legs. Meet Mr. J. Charles. He was feeling tired and worried at this point--I had just sprung him from the shelter. I'm pleased to report that he's much more cheerful after a week to settle in to a home with oat groats on tap. (He's that rare budgie who doesn't like millet.)

Don't be fooled. This is the face of a biter. Snowflake was the last of my fosters from the 84-budgie rescue. She was adopted after about 4 years and is living the good life in a wonderful aviary.

One of the loveliest parts of fostering is hearing the success stories of “my” birds in their forever homes. Emerald (I bet you can tell which one she is!) taught the rest of her flock to enjoy greens and to accept millet snacks from their human family. ❤️

One of the girls from the 84-budgies home, I forget who this was. Eating bolting kale--in general, my birds like to eat bolting vegetables, which is great because I am an earnest but not overly skilled gardener!

Edith, Cam, Abel, and Silas. These are four of a flock of 84 budgies. Mickaboo worked with the owners to separate the boys from the girls to stop them from breeding anymore. It's easy to control budgie breeding if you know how. (If you don't--ask me!)

Closeup of Pinnochio's beak. It always grew weird due to the horrible mites he'd had, but with periodic vet visits to trim it, he did fine. He was one of the most exuberant, playful budgies I ever fostered.
