The door style you choose can be based on only looks, but depending on the type of reptile you're keeping, a door style can have a very important function as well.

We originally designed the swing down doors for snakes, but they've become our signature and a favorite for the majority of you!

We chose our premium latches for the swing down doors because they:
・are easy & pleasant to open
・can be opened with snake hooks
・the door can be easily pushed closed (esp if you need to do so quickly)
・the latches are on the outside so they cannot be opened from within
・we will replace them if they ever break
Also, for the swing down door, we engrave a pocket for it to sit in so there isn't a gap for snakes to easily push through.

The swing down doors are also generally our favorite because they are truly satisfying to open and close.

It is also easier to notice when you've accidentally left them open, rather than a sliding door 😬😬😬

Sliding doors are great for as they provide a lot of visibility and we have a glass option for scratchers!
(although we noticed the plastic doors are preferred for their lightness and general safety, and you can replace them if they get too scratched)

Setting up your reptile's heating and lighting with a solid top is super easy with an Apex forever home!

1) Remove lid, lay it flat
2) Screw fixture directly into the lid*
3) Place wires through wire pockets

* Ceramic fixtures in a metal bracket can be screwed directly into the enclosure, flat ceramic fixtures will need a PVC spacer (sold in our store) to make space for the wires and for some heat dissipation.

・Always use a thermostat
・Always use a heat bulb cage

・Don't use under tank heating with any PVC enclosures

There are 2 ways to build a 2'x2'x2'!

The traditional way, get the 2'x2'x2' ALTA block on its own.

The second way is perfect if you need multiple 2'x2'x2's or you know you will eventually need a larger enclosure. Get a 4'x2'x2' with double doors and a divider in the middle!

You can use the divider in there forever, or take it out when you want to use the 4'x2'x2' as whole enclosure!

Remember, you can always expand either size, by combining blocks whenever you grow out of a size!

This size is a great forever home for crested geckos and a great starter home for many snake and lizard breeds that are too small to go into a large enclosure for now.

You can purchase a divider separately or add it on when you're building your enclosure and you select the double door option!

All about that BASE!

Before any house is built, a strong foundation must be provided.
It's no different with your reptile's home!

It's important to have a flat surface large enough to fit your enclosure.
This can be a sturdy cabinet or a table you have in your home already, or a flat floor.

Keep in mind that sometimes keeping your enclosure on the floor may alter how easy it is to regulate the environment inside the enclosure, especially if the floor is notoriously cold!

Knock Knock!
Today's Door Feature: Single Swing Down!

Available on the 3' and 4' enclosures!
Originally, we created the swing down doors for snakes! While this has become a favorite for many reptile breeds, noodle or four legged, we want to share with you why!
🐍
Snakes are notorious escape artists! So we machined a lip that the door sits on, so there isn't a gap for the snake to easily push through.
🔒
Our latches close on the outside and the on the 4'x2'x2', the single swing down also comes standard with a lock in the middle.
This means the latches can't be manipulated to open on the inside and since it is quite large of a window on the 4', the extra lock gives it a third point of closure.
‼️
Remember to use your discretion with your own reptiles!
If you have a snake that is extra large or extra strong, you may need to switch to the double doors, add extra points of closure or increase the enclosure size to prevent escapes!

Every reptile is different and some can get very strong and super smart, which is why we love them, but also why we need to make sure we take extra care in helping keep them safe!

If you've ever done research on any topic, not even just reptile care, you may have noticed that there isn't always consistency in the information presented from source to source.

Unfortunately, that's not something we can change since information truly does change regularly as we humans evolve and learn new stuff! (Which is pretty cool that we get to do that!)

What we *can* do, is make sure we use our own judgement and simply strive to do our best!

In the realm of keeping animal companions, that means creating an environment where the animal feels:
1) Comfortable
2) Safe
3) Stimulated

With help from trusted resources and your own judgement, create an environment that closely resembles where the reptile is from!

Make sure the items that are part of that environment are safe to use long term. (This can include only using safe to eat plants and covering heat bulbs with caging!)

Provide enrichment! Our reptile companions in the wild have a lot of space to roam and an environment full of obstacles and play grounds. Providing as much mental stimulation as you can will not only ensure a healthy and stimulated reptile, but you yourself will get more out of the relationship!

Tips & Tricks for setting up heat & light with your Apex!

All Apex Tops:
- Wire pockets on all 4 sides for convenient electrical & probe wire management!

Screen Top:
- Place fixtures directly on top of the screen
- Use a reptile lamp stand to hang fixtures over the screen

Solid Top:
- Choose a UVB fixture with clamps, screw them directly into the lid
- Metal brackets that hold a ceramic fixture can be screwed directly into the lid
- Flat ceramic fixtures need a spacer for the wire and heat dispersion (Available at apexreptile.com)
- Always use caging with heat fixtures inside enclosures!

How does it work?
When you purchase an expansion kit, it only includes the pieces you need, so it costs less than whole new enclosure.
✦ For a height expansion, you would keep your original lid and use it as the lid on the top block
✦ The lower block’s lid and the upper block’s base get replaced with extension pieces
✦ The two blocks are secured together, creating a pass through between them
