A short story in three parts.
1. A puppy takes himself on a last-minute nightly rampage, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
2. Pleads total innocence, batting puppy eyes and wagging tail.
3. Insists he cannot possibly drag himself to bed and must be carried.

So, of course, he was carried to bed and tucked in Iike the exhausted toddler he is. 💗

I’m getting taller! Mum is using the baby gate as her wall chart for how big I’m getting 😍 And she doesn’t have to wedge a cushion on the side anymore because I can’t get my head stuck in it anymore. Phew!

I’ve had a big few days. I went to Bunnings! And I went to the river and saw so many people and bikes and scooters and a school excursion in action. I was a bit scared of the loud banging from inside the slide tunnels and tried to run but then Mum sat down with me and we watched all the little kids swinging and climbing and squealing and then I felt better. I also visited Mum’s chiropractor and I made everyone in the waiting room happy. I practise ‘mat time’ quite naturally everywhere we go (and Mum gave me her jumper to lie on when she forgot my mat). And I like to end my outings by sleeping upside down 😍

*I promise you, I was actually having fun in this photo.* My people took me to the river today to deliver me fish and chips (well, they would only give me ONE chip because they said my belly is still recovering from surgery) because that was one of the many things they promised me when I was really sick and they wanted to give me hope. (I’ll be cashing in on these promises for ages yet 😋). While I was there, I met another puppy like me! He is 15 weeks old and I am 12 weeks and we had a great wrestle. (Mum was careful for it not to be too rough on my belly.) It was so much fun! And then I fell asleep in the car straight away and slept all the way home. 💤

So, I just had my first bath... and now Mum is lying down to recover 🤦‍♀️ Before I got sick, Mum had introduced me to the shower and that went really well and I got loads of treats. But as I’ve had stitches I couldn’t have a bath and I’ve been covered in all sorts of fluids (enough said) and Mum said I was just too stinky and now my stitches are out I had to have a bath. Well, that might have been HER idea but it was not mine! I struggled and protested and squirmed and threw myself around so much that Mum says there is now more water on the floor and walls and windows and ceiling than in the bath! Also, both Mum and the kid have scratches everywhere. Oops!

Today I went to my first cafe! It was quiet and I practised mat training and people told me I was super cute and Mum even gave me a tiny bit of her cake (cause I’m STILL only supposed to eat chicken and rice after my big surgery 🙄 … and I won’t even eat rice! Mum has to make me porridge instead… and she says she’s never met a retriever that won’t eat rice!). I think I’d like to go back for more of that cake, though. 😋

Oh, boy! I’m supposed to resting but I can’t cause I’m a puppy and I am FULL of energy 🐾 so the family took me to the park in my pram (so I can’t run around) and we ended up at the library (because, of course) and I was invited in! Then I was invited back for rhyme time 👏👏👏 Thanks Noosa Library! I’ll see you soon!

So yesterday I was here at emergency, again 😫 Mum was super weepy as I’d been vomiting and was super lethargic and mum was sure I was about to die! The vets were worried I had post surgical complications and said they wanted to do ultrasounds and X-rays and if things were bad I would have to have another operation 😭 The vet told mum that I lay on my back while she ultrasounded my belly and I watched the screen (I like television!). And everything was okay! They were still a bit baffled and took off my narcotic patch and half an hour later I was fine! (Stay away from the drugs, kids!) After a huge sleep, I woke up early and managed to break out of my pen and run around free with the mean and bossy poodle for who-know-how long!? 😱 Then, I had explosive diarrhoea… enough said. Mum is exhausted but so happy that I am so resilient and full of beans this morning 💗💗💗

I have had a pretty awful 24 hours. Mum took me to the vet because I was vomiting and starting to refuse food (which is very un-Goldenlike! I mean, Goldens will jump through fire for treats!). X-rays showed ‘something’. Because it wasn’t easy to identify the vet did surgery in case it was something like a button battery. But things got complicated. The vet couldn’t find the thing in my stomach! He searched further into intestines but still couldn’t find it. He stitched me up. At the end of the day, I was still barely conscious from the hours of surgery. Mum did NOT want to leave me all alone overnight with no staff so she came to get me and the whole family transferred me to the emergency specialists. I was still bleeding a bit and breathing rapidly and I groaned with every bump on the road. The doggy doctor there was most concerned about how much pain I was in and her first priority was to get loads of fabulous drugs to help me feel better.

This morning, the new vet phoned Mum and Dad and said the drugs did good and I am doing really well and eating everything in sight! So much so that they put a cone around my head. (Boo! 😞) They want to keep me till this afternoon and then the family can come and get me and I can go home! (Yay! 😃)

Mum is devastated that I had so much surgery and my little precious puppyhood window for the essential ‘first 12 weeks’ has been so grotesquely impacted. She keeps crying. 😭 But I think she’ll feel better when I lick her face again this afternoon. Okay, I better go sleep some more so I can eat again! 🐾

(PS, Mum is super relieved she got me pet insurance! She said a vet once told her to get pet insurance for the first two years of life, at least, cause that’s when most disasters happen and she has never forgotten it! Phew!)

Omg! I tasted Mum’s gumboot and now my life will never be the same again. Who knew they were every smell I could ever want in a handy take home pack?!🤯

I am learning to be a reading buddy for kids at school. I like books but I don’t like my harness yet. But I’ve nearly outgrown this one already so Mum has to get me a new one. I wonder what sort she’ll get next? 🤔
