I love crates and crate training
And here’s why:
New puppy owners very often make the common mistake of not controlling their puppy’s environment sufficiently.
The better you are at managing where your puppy can and cannot go – the faster your overall results will be.
Spoiler alert….It can take many months to have a well-trained dog!
Until this point you need to have a strict control of their environment to keep them safe, you sane and stop bad habits from developing!

Want a confident and optimistic dog?
That’s exactly what I helped Deborah achieve.
She has a rescue dog called Ruby (Roobz), who lacked confidence and optimism. Ruby saw every new or ambiguous situation as something negative and tended to either shut down or bark at it.
However, Deborah really wanted Roobz to be a therapy dog one day and dogs need confidence to be able to do therapy dog work. We needed to change Ruby’s pessimism into optimism - so anything new she is faced with is nothing to be worried about! So Deborah contacted me to see if I could help improve Ruby’s confidence levels so one day she could be up to the task.
As soon as we started working together, I created a bespoke training plan that took into account where Roobz was now and where she needed to be.
Roobz is doing now doing really well - her outlook is that new things are nothing to worry about! Here’s what her owner had to say about implementing my plan to build her confidence and optimism:
”I’ve exposed her to all kinds of experiences including a bus into Winchester, a walk around the back streets and a coffee in the cathedral grounds. I was quite staggered at how she coped in such a new environment. Everything was sniffed! I’ve been doing lots of confidence stuff too. Her finest was crawling inside a very tall empty vacuum box to get her ball and a treat or two. Never did I dream she would do this. Especially when I didn’t open the other end so she had to reverse out.” Go Ruby and Deb - what a fantastic team you are!
