Good morning and happy Saturday everyone! I'm Archie, and I'm ready to go home! I just need to fine the right one. I'm currently being fostered in the Indianapolis area.

I've been told that I am a Schapso (Schnauzer/Lhasa Apso mix). I'm around 2 years old, neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, and on all preventatives. My foster mom says I am a complicated little guy. You see, I was found as a stray, and she has been working with me to show me the ropes. I don't immediately like new people when I meet them. I need some time to warm up to them and be able to trust. I have issues with my head being touched, and will let you know with a warning nip until I learn I can trust you. I also don't like it when my foster mom goes to put my harness on me. It slips over my head, so that’s the issue, you see. She has been working with me on this and I do let her scratch my ears and pet my head now. It just took me some time to learn that, well, that's kinda nice!

I admit that I've been a bit difficult to potty train. Call me lazy, but I prefer to use the washable potty pads my foster mom keeps down. With some time and practice on this, I think I'll get the hang of it though. I do well on a leash, and keep my crate clean when I'm in it.

Foster mom note: Archie is a really sweet boy, and needs lots of love. He just needs the right person that can understand him and have patience for him to adjust on his own time frame. Please fill out an application if you are interested in meeting this sweet boy.

If you're interested in Archie, please fill out an adoption application at the link below. If you've already filled out an application and are interested, please PM the folks at AHSR and let them know.

UPDATE: Adopted!!!

Good morning everyone, my name is Gus!

I'm an almost 2-year-old little boy who is looking for my forever home! I am a sweet little guy who loves to cuddle on the couch. I like to play with other dogs, but I'm not sure if I like cats or not. I think I would like a home with some older kids to play with, but probably not younger toddlers. I hear they're just too busy for me. I am currently being fostered in the Indianapolis area and am ready to go to my new furever home as soon as someone is matched up to me!

If you're interested in learning more about me, please fill out an adoption application at the link below. If you've already filled out an application and are interested, please send the folks at AHSR a message to let them know. I can't wait to meet my new family!

Good evening everyone! In rescue, there are times when it's fairly quiet and there aren't a lot of dogs that are in need of help. These are good times. In a perfect world, dog rescues wouldn't be needed.

There are also times when, as our founder used to describe, "It's Raining Schnauzers!" AHSR is currently experiencing one of these times. We have more dogs coming in than we have foster home room, and we're actually having to turn down some requests for help.

So, we're putting out a call for fosters. These little guys and gals need a place to crash as we find them their furever homes. If you have some room in your home and your heart, you can be a hero to an innocent Schnauzer who needs help. AHSR covers all fostering expenses and is here to answer any questions you may have.

If you are interested, please PM us or fill out a fostering application at: https://ahsr.ngo/fostering

UPDATE: Ollie has been adopted. There was a large number of wonderful applicants for this little guy, and it was so tough to choose, but we do think Ollie is in the best home for him. Thanks so much for your interest, and congrats to Ollie and his new family! For those that didn't get picked for Ollie, we will be chatting with some of you soon about other opportunities.

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!!!

My name is Oliver, but I go by Ollie for short. I'm a sweet little 8-pound, 2-year-old snuggle bug! One of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet, and I'm looking for my perfect furever home! If you have a lap, I have lots of love to share. I love to sleep all night cradled in someone’s arms and will cuddle with you to watch your favorite shows. I do more than just snuggle and sleep though. I still have some silly puppy in me. I love toys and gentle play. I'm excellent with other dogs and while I'm interested in kitties, I don't give chase. I love to go for car rides too! The folks at AHSR think I am part schnauzer, part yorkie, and maybe even part dachshund. Does that make me a schweinkie? I believe it does.

I'm a little nervous around lots of commotion but I'm very well behaved. The more time we spend together, the more relaxed I'll be. I would prefer a calm home with not much going on, no small children as permanent residents. I think men are a little sketchy, so I might need some extra time to fully trust one. Over time though, I feel like we'll be the best of friends.

I'm currently being fostered in the Indianapolis area. If you're interested in a little nugget such as me, please fill out an application using the link below. If you've already filled out an application, please let the folks at AHSR know you're interested in me by sending them a private message.

Maxwell has been ADOPTED!!!

Located in: Indianapolis, IN

Folks, I just don't understand it. Maxwell is STILL WAITING for his forever home. There has to be someone that needs a loving companion to snuggle on the couch with at the end of a busy day. Maxwell doesn't do well living in a home with other dogs. So what? We've adopted many dogs that need to be the only dog in the home. We also think he'll do best in a home without children under 12, but as a precaution. He hasn't tasted anyone or even had a nibble! All kidding aside, Maxwell is sweet and loving. He'll be that constant companion, your "ride or die" through thick and thin. This great little guy just needs someone to love. Could that be you?

Max is 4 years old
Schnauzer mix
Gives hugs that melt your heart (seriously, he hugs)
Neutered
Microchipped
Vaccines all current
Heartworm neg. and on monthly preventive
In excellent health
Crate trained
Leash trained
House trained

Does Maxwell sound like the guy for you? Please fill out an adoption application our website www.ahsr.ngo to get the process rolling. Approved applicants can meet Maxwell and see for yourself what a fine fellow he is.

Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:

***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!
Hi everyone, my name is Rosie! I'm a sweet and beautiful female standard schnauzer, about 2 years old. I'm looking for my furever home, and I wanted to share a little bit about myself.

UPDATE: Adoption pending!!!

I love to play ball, snuggle on the couch, and spend time with my people. I have recently discovered these things called "squirrels" too, and I really like to protect my foster home from them.

I'm a shy girl at first, and I can get startled with loud noises, such as fireworks or motorcycles. I like to go on walks, but I'm nervous around new people and even new dogs sometimes. With enough time though, I relax and become comfortable with the people and dogs I'm around. Once I do, I really enjoy spending as much time with them as I can.

That's a little bit about me. How about you?

Rosie is currently being fostered in the Des Moines, IA area. If you're interested in learning more about her, please fill out an adoption application at: https://ahsr.ngo/application

If you have already filled out an adoption application and are interested, please send the folks at Almost Home Schnauzer Rescue a message to let them know.

ADOPTED!!

Indianapolis, IN:

Introducing Arthur! Arthur is an 11 year old schnauzer that's in need of a home of his own. He's fully vetted, house trained, gets along with kids and other dogs, obedience trained, rides well in the car and is a sweetheart of a guy. He likes to explore and sometimes wanders off....so a fenced yard is needed to give him plenty of room to explore without a squirel taking him off property! He loves to play tug-of-war, sleep under your bed, and eat all the carrots you'll give him! He loves to be snuggled and petted...close to his humans is where this guy loves to be. He does have a slight heart murmur, but the vet says he's otherwise very healthy.

ADOPTED!
Kricket
Courtesy Post: This beautiful girl is Kricket, she’s 4 years old and she's in North Port, Florida. She needs rehomed ASAP.

Kricket came from a breeder when she was 6 months old. For unknown reasons, she was very fearful.

She was so afraid when we got her that I sent her to professional training at tiptop k-9 for an intense 6 week program.
To give her confidence and to help with how timid she was.
She’s wonderful with children, and absolutely loves being with other dogs.

She would do best in a home that has male dog/dogs.
She’s very dog social, but I’ve noticed if she’s in a home with a middle-age female dog, they compete for dominance (marking).

Kricket doesn’t do that with male dogs, or elderly female dogs.
The biggest quirk she has is she's fearful of men until she knows them for about 48 hours. She does love men, but it has to be a guy that truly loves dogs. She KNOWS when it’s a guy that’s not a dog person.

She’s been professionally trained, so she’s very well mannered, completely housebroken, kennel trained, even with the kennel door open & she knows how to “place “ stay until released.

Kricket is very protective of her family..we are heartbroken, but we can't keep her.

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!

Good morning everyone, my name is Henry and I am looking for my furever home. The folks at AHSR have been working very hard to find one for me, but I have yet to find a perfect match. I am currently in the Adrian, MI area, but I don't mind moving somewhere else. I just need a home where I can play with my ball and have fun, but without tiny humans. They make me really uncomfortable. A few weeks ago, my wonderful foster mom wrote a nice summary of me. (I couldn't have done better myself). Here goes...

Henry is quite the catch! First, let's get this handsome guy's opportunities for improvement out of the way. We all have a few areas of ourselves that could use some work, and likewise, Henry has his too.

Henry is asking for a home without young children and one that young children do not often visit, but would do well with teenagers and adults willing to take it slow as they gain his trust. Once you have earned that trust, you have a new best friend that will adore you! You see, he has made it quite clear that even well behaved children are not going to be his friends, but boy oh boy, does this guy love his trusted people!

He does not care for his leash much and will need a fenced in yard to give him a nice arena to get all that Standard Schnauzer energy out. He's also going to need continued work in the leash department and has slipped his collar a couple of times already while in a fenced yard. He loves to play and is looking for someone that will never tire of throwing his favorite ball for him and maybe joining in on some of his zoomie fun in the yard from time to time.

As Henry does love his people, he gets quite upset when they are out of sight and will need someone very patient to help him through his separation anxiety. He does bark and cry very loudly and could bother some potential adopters and their neighbors. He is very persistent at this too. He will tear up his bed while in his crate if you leave the house, so a crate pad, rather than a bed, would be a better choice.

Going to the vet is not his favorite thing to do as he quickly learned he gets poked a lot there. He also does not enjoy getting groomed as the clippers and blow dryer make loud, scary sounds. Loud noises do startle Henry as do sudden movements and ball caps, so if he is unusually aloof of someone in a hat, having the hat removed may make all the difference.

Now that we got that stuff all out of the way, let me tell you, he is a wonderful dog that I quickly fell in love with! Once he lets you in his circle of trust, you will find a sweet guy that will happily spend his time cuddling with you. He loves neck, ear, and belly rubs more than any other pup I have met and will melt into you as he enjoys them.

At first, Henry had no clue how to play, now he will happily pounce all over the place with his favorite ball and once your arm tires, he will nudge it along to play on his own until you are recharged and ready to go again. He favors Nylabones, especially the larger ones meant for bigger dogs. Pretty sure he thinks he is much bigger than his 34 lbs body actually is.

He is crate trained and keeps his crate spotless. Now, because he insists on keeping his crate clean, he does sometimes whimper to go out in the middle of the night to relieve himself. Sometimes this is 2-3 times a night, and other times he does not need to go out at all. Unlike being left home alone in his crate during the day, he is very well behaved in his crate at bedtime. He doesn't make a peep unless he needs to potty.

That pretty much sums it about about me, Henry, a healthy, young Standard Schnauzer who wants very badly to go home! If you're interested in my, please fill out an adoption application with the link below. If you've already filled one out, please send the folks at Almost Home Schnauzer Rescue a message to let them know.

ADOPTED!!
Indianapolis, IN
Hi everyone, I'm Winston! I'm a young male Standard Schnauzer who is ready to find my furever family.

I'm a sweet guy who plays well with other foster dogs in the home. (All 4 under 15lbs). I do not mind other animals as far as cats and birds. I love toys and being outside and running in the yard. I get super excited for my nightly walks of life exploration around the neighborhood. I'm a veggie lovin' man when they're mixed into my food and I love the occasional cheese treat. I will not potty in my crate, and while I still have the occasional accident in the home, those are very few and I'm working diligently to learn the doorbell to signal my foster parents that I want to go outside. I am still learning and realizing that I am safe and that people are good, so I will sometimes be a little nervous with loud noises and fast movements. Overall, I am a super sweet loving baby that will lay in your lap and snuggle you.

Winston is being fostered in the Indianapolis, IN area. If you are interested in learning more about him, please fill out an adoption application at https://ahsr.ngo/application

If you are interested and have already applied, please send the folks at Almost Home Schnauzer Rescue a private message and let them know.

UPDATE: Max has been adopted!

Good morning everyone, my name is Max. I am looking for my furever home and rumor has it that I might be able to find it here. I'm a shy, 2-3 year old male Standard Schnauzer. I'm a sweet boy with not a mean bone in my body, but when I say I'm shy, I do mean that. The home I'm looking for will give me plenty of time and patience because it takes me a long time to come out of my shell, start to feel comfortable, and begin to trust my humans.

My foster parents are wonderful people and I really like them, it just took me a while to get there. They have taught me so much about myself. I love my crate and often nap there. I really like going for walks on a leash now, and I go with my house mate, although that took some time as well. I'm good with baths and brushing, and I'm really starting to dig getting pets and scratches behind the ears. All in all, I have a bit more to learn about the new world I live in and I would like do so in my furever home, with my furever people.

Max is being fostered in the West Lafayette, IN area. If you are interested in learning more about Max, please fill out an adoption application at https://ahsr.ngo/application

If you are interested and have already applied, please send the folks at Almost Home Schnauzer Rescue a private message and let them know.
