Introducing.....General Soxious Maximus aka Sox!!

Sox is a loving little 12 year old guy. He has striking features with gorgeous white on his beard, eyebrows, legs and feet. He weighs 17 pounds, and is on the shorter, stockier side. He is getting more playful as he becomes more secure in his surroundings. He loves to cuddle on the couch or in bed. He's good with people, kids and other dogs. He hasn't been exposed to cats, but he's such a gentle spirit that I imagine he'd be good with them. We just haven't been able to test him with cats. He loves to be rubbed and petted while next to you on a soft blanket. He enjoys a warm shower and is easy to groom. He's also a good little guard dog! He will bark when someone comes to the door, but he listens when he's told to stop. He's pottied trained and crate trained. Sox is an older boy at 12, but he has a lot of love to give left in him!

* Heartworm Neg and on monthly preventive
* Sox has a low grade heart murmur between 2-3 which does not require medication, our vet said he may never need it.
* House trained

Introducing...Rascal the Wonderful Dog! This handsome guy is a scruffy coated doodle mix and he’s super sweet. Rascal is playful and loves to romp and play! He would do best with an active family with older children. His foster mom has been working to teach him to walk on leash. He’s getting there and his manners are improving!

Rascal was found running the streets in Missouri and had been homeless for a few weeks. This handsome guy deserves a home with a family that loves him.

Rascal will be very happy as an only dog....he loves getting all the attention. We believe he's a doodle mix...so he needs exercised regularly to help channel his energy. Apartment living is NOT for Rascal because he can be vocal when he wants something. A fenced backyard is a definite MUST and he has a healthy prey instinct, so no cats at all!!!

Rascal is 4 years old, neutered, current on all vaccines, and microchipped. He's heart worm negative and on monthly preventive and he weighs about 25lbs. All he needs is someone to adopt and love him!

AHSR can’t believe this sweet boy hasn’t found his fur-ever home!!

Hey everyone! I'm Archie, and I can't wait to find my forever home! Right now, I'm being fostered in the Indianapolis area, and I'm hoping to meet someone special soon.

I'm told I’m a Schapso, which is a mix of Schnauzer and Lhasa Apso. I'm around 4 years old, neutered, up to date on my vaccines, microchipped, and on all my preventatives. My foster mom says I have a unique personality. You see, I was found as a stray, and she’s been helping me adjust. I do take a little time to warm up to new people, so patience is key! If you're gentle and give me space, I promise I’ll come around.

I also have a bit of a quirk when it comes to having my head touched. I might give a little warning nip until I learn to trust you, but it just takes me a bit to realize that ear scratches and pets feel really nice! I’m working on getting used to my harness, too. It’s a little tricky since it slips over my head, but my foster mom is so patient and we’re making progress together.

Now, potty training has been a bit of a journey for me. I might be a little lazy and prefer using the washable potty pads my foster mom provides, but with a little more practice, I’ll get there. On the plus side, I walk nicely on a leash and keep my crate nice and clean.

My Foster mom says I’m a really sweet boy who just needs lots of love and the right person to help me feel comfortable in my own time. If you think you could be that person, please fill out an application to meet me!

Hey there! I'm Georgio, and this is my awesome brother Dinky. We're a pair of mini schnauzers, and I’m 4 while Dinky is 3. We have the same amazing parents, just from different litters, and we’re super close! Unfortunately, we lost our owner to cancer and are now on the lookout for a new forever home where we can stay together.

We’re housebroken, walk beautifully on a leash, and absolutely adore car rides! We get along great with other dogs too. When my foster mom needs to step out, we happily hop into our crate with some treats – who can resist those? Our favorite pastime is chasing squirrels from the backyard, and we love to wrestle and play with each other.

We’re super affectionate and enjoy cuddling up for pets and rubs whenever we can. Oh, and we take our job of guarding the house very seriously, especially when it comes to the mail and Amazon deliveries! At first, we might bark at new people, but don’t worry—we warm up quickly and become fast friends. My foster mom has 6 grandkids all under 6 years old, and while we might bark a bit at first, we’ve gotten along great with them too!

We’re all set with our shots, heartworm negative, neutered, groomed, and ready to find our forever home.

Hey there! I’m Barley, an adorably cute and bouncy 3-year-old terrier mix (Shih Tzu). I absolutely love going for walks and chasing my foster brother around in the backyard! I’m still figuring out how to control my jumping, but my awesome foster mom is helping me learn some leash manners and brush up on my commands. Exciting news—I even met a cat and managed to keep my cool, so I’d say that’s a big win!

I’m a total foodie and I promise, there’s not a mean bone in my tiny 9-pound body. I’m not sure how I get along with younger kids, but I’ve been around a few older kids and liked them a lot. I’m crate-trained, although I would rather be in your lap! I’m house-trained but am still learning not to mark.

I adore my toys, especially playing catch with a ball. Whoever decides to adopt me will need a bit of patience, but trust me, they’ll be the luckiest person ever! My foster mom is definitely going to shed some tears when it’s time for me to leave. I can’t even imagine what our lives would have been like without Barley; he truly seems to have come into our lives for a reason.

ADOPTION Pending!

Good morning and happy Saturday everyone! I'm Archie, and I'm ready to go home! I just need to fine the right one. I'm currently being fostered in the Indianapolis area.

I've been told that I am a Schapso (Schnauzer/Lhasa Apso mix). I'm around 2 years old, neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, and on all preventatives. My foster mom says I am a complicated little guy. You see, I was found as a stray, and she has been working with me to show me the ropes. I don't immediately like new people when I meet them. I need some time to warm up to them and be able to trust. I have issues with my head being touched, and will let you know with a warning nip until I learn I can trust you. I also don't like it when my foster mom goes to put my harness on me. It slips over my head, so that’s the issue, you see. She has been working with me on this and I do let her scratch my ears and pet my head now. It just took me some time to learn that, well, that's kinda nice!

I admit that I've been a bit difficult to potty train. Call me lazy, but I prefer to use the washable potty pads my foster mom keeps down. With some time and practice on this, I think I'll get the hang of it though. I do well on a leash, and keep my crate clean when I'm in it.

Good evening everyone! In rescue, there are times when it's fairly quiet and there aren't a lot of dogs that are in need of help. These are good times. In a perfect world, dog rescues wouldn't be needed.

There are also times when, as our founder used to describe, "It's Raining Schnauzers!" AHSR is currently experiencing one of these times. We have more dogs coming in than we have foster home room, and we're actually having to turn down some requests for help.

So, we're putting out a call for fosters. These little guys and gals need a place to crash as we find them their furever homes. If you have some room in your home and your heart, you can be a hero to an innocent Schnauzer who needs help. AHSR covers all fostering expenses and is here to answer any questions you may have.

UPDATE: Ollie has been adopted. There was a large number of wonderful applicants for this little guy, and it was so tough to choose, but we do think Ollie is in the best home for him. Good morning everyone, happy Friday!!!

My name is Oliver, but I go by Ollie for short. I'm a sweet little 8-pound, 2-year-old snuggle bug! One of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet, and I'm looking for my perfect furever home! If you have a lap, I have lots of love to share. I love to sleep all night cradled in someone’s arms and will cuddle with you to watch your favorite shows. I do more than just snuggle and sleep though. I still have some silly puppy in me. I love toys and gentle play. I'm excellent with other dogs and while I'm interested in kitties, I don't give chase. I love to go for car rides too! The folks at AHSR think I am part schnauzer, part yorkie, and maybe even part dachshund. Does that make me a schweinkie? I believe it does.

I'm a little nervous around lots of commotion but I'm very well behaved. The more time we spend together, the more relaxed I'll be. I would prefer a calm home with not much going on, no small children as permanent residents. I think men are a little sketchy, so I might need some extra time to fully trust one. Over time though, I feel like we'll be the best of friends.
