Max is a 10yr old dog. He was fit and healthy and living his best life. Until he wasn't.
Turned out Max had a tumor growing in his spleen. And then it burst. Luckily he was at the vet due to showing signs of discomfort earlier in the night.
Double lucky that the vet clinic he was at, had a staff member that had a dog called Swag that was able to donate blood that saved Maxs life.
This page has been started to help support the vet clinics by hopefully gathering a pool of dogs that could be potential blood donors. So that at 4am, there is a pool of amazing dogs (and their humans) that are happy to be able to help another dog and save a life.
If you are willing to have your dog added to the list, please contact the page. Check with your vet first to make sure your dog would be a good candidate for being a blood donor.
Your dog must be:
Between 1 - 7 years old
Be over 25kgs
Be fit and healthy
Not be on any medications
The procedure is non-evasive, your dog is lightly sedated, shaved a small section of leg where the needle is inserted and blood is taken. The vet will only take a maximum of 450ml. Then given a couple hours recovery (think human blood giving, cup of tea and a biscuit).
You (and your dog) are then rewarded with a big bag of dog food to take home plus the knowledge that your dog could have saved a life.
