A few words from our upcoming Speciality judge...
I have been involved in pugs since I was about 10 years of age, when a neighbour's Mother pug and her 2 pups wandered into our backyard. Owners were found, but they returned many times. And the male puppy ended up ours, Butch was his name, from there my love of pugs grew, although my Mother says as a teenager I hated the pug hair on my clothes! As an adult I purchased my first pug, and my addiction with the breed began. My love of blacks is twofold, as my grand-daughter loves black pugs and she has kindly donated a trophy for Best Black In Show. I also admire the hard work that goes into breeding a great black, that perfect silhouette hides nothing, let alone the quirks that the black colour has.
I commenced judging to further my education on the breed and other Toy breeds, history of breeds is a remarkable thing, it indicates why breeds are the way they are. Please don't forget that when looking at your breeding lines. I have held a prefix "KURVON" since 1992, and have owned and bred many champions and have to say I was lucky enough to be owned by NZ CH/CH Belmignon Eugene Prince, a BOB winner at the Prestigious Melbourne Royal with an entry of 128 pugs, "Eugie" was a multi Best in Show and Group winner as well as winning the only 3 CACIB's on offer in Australia in the '90's. His qualities can still be seen in many pugs today with quality dogs and bi***es sired from his limited matings.
I remember when I went into blacks being told that 'I wouldn't win with a black, and I was wasting my time!'. It was brilliant to prove the naysayers wrong when that year I titled 7 pugs, 2 of which were black and both became multi Best in Group/Show winners!
I am looking forward to judging your entries for The Country NSW Pug Dog Club.
