Tis the season!! Get a head start with these helpful tips from our friends at Mischief Managed Dog Training LLC.

🎆Are you prepared for the 4th?

Tale as old as time, fireworks start & dogs are getting loose and running away. If you haven’t been working to desensitize your dog to loud and unnatural noises, best you can do is management!
•Because of the heat, get a nice walk in early! Maybe even go somewhere new and let them sniff around, practice recall, place them on rocks, benches, and tree stumps.
•If the heat isn’t too bad, a nice game of fetch or tug after is always fun!
•Freeze some kongs with fruit, yogurt, veggies, even their dinner! Having to work for a nice treat or dinner is a great way to keep them occupied.
•Crates & Gates!!!! You literally cannot be *too* safe. Especially if you’re having people over. You unfortunately cannot trust that doors are being closed. Crate your dog. Close the door of the room your dog is in. And if possible, throw a baby gate up leading to that room to keep people away and your dog in.
•Sound machines to help drown out the noise are always helpful.
•Make sure your dogs have some form of identification on and/or are microchipped!
•CBD is the more natural route and a good option or head to your vet now and get some drugs.
•Doesn’t hurt to have a camera on your dogs so you can monitor without opening and closing doors.
•For the love of all dogs, do not bring them to see fireworks😵‍💫

And remember, fireworks are not natural and it is okay for your dog to be afraid. What’s not okay is not setting them up the best you can to make it through the next couple weeks.. because let’s face it, it’s not just one night of fireworks. Maybe one day we’ll just give it up with fireworks all together because ya know, they’re the worst 🤗
