Great training plan for teaching your dog to actually enjoy getting dressed up! Not all dogs find this to be their cup of tea, but with some positive reinforcement and taking things slow and at your dogs pace you can get there!

We don’t work for free so why should our dogs! Finding the right high value treat can be a challenge for some dogs and owners. One of my staples and go to for clients is beef stew meat!

The cooking is simple, just pan fry with some water to essentially boil the meat until it is well done. Let it cool and cut it up to training sized pieces! I like to do up big batches and then freeze them in baggies that are perfect sized for 1-2 training sessions!

Texture wise, the meat is fairly dry so it’s not gross to handle. (I have tried to use an instapot for cooking and the meat got too tender and flaky). It is a great single protein high value treat which is especially important if you are dealing with GI issues or allergies!

All of your training treats do not need to be this high of value, but do remember, the harder your dog is working the better you have to pay them!

Are you “nailing it” when it comes to your dog’s paw health? Keeping your dog’s nails short is more than just a benefit to protect your floors and prevent scratches! It prevents injuries like breaking a nail (let me warn you… they can bleed like crazy! 😬 And they are NOT easy to keep bandaged up while it heals!) Long nails also lead to an improper gait on your dog which leads to join pain and complications! Not fun! These are the supplies in my nail bag! ✅A scissors style clipper (you can find this one on Amazon by Millers forge!) ✅Quick Stop- just in case! ✅A File to round out any sharp edges! ✅Treats! And either a “volunteer” to help disperse the treats or something like this suction toy or a lick mat which you can smear treats like spray cheese on! Trimming the nails can be a battle but it doesn’t have to be! See this week’s story for the Tuesday tip on the first step to nail desensitization training! And remember, until you are ready to do it yourself, most vets and groomers will do “nail only” appointments which can be a safer option until you and your dog are trained up! 😁🐾💅🏻
