One way to confirm that a leopard gecko is not heterozygous for a specific gene, especially if there is a high likelihood of it being non-het, is through selective breeding tests.

It will take a loooong time but this Blood Sunglow male might help us prove out some females! 🩸💉

We are currently raising this sub-adult black night leopard gecko for the upcoming breeding season. He surprised me with his big built and very very good weight for a 6-month old gecko!

Can you still see her? Black Night leopard geckos are a morph with a predominantly black coloration, making them visually striking and sought after by reptile enthusiasts. Definitely one of my favorite morphs! 🖤

Tomorrow we'll be sharing our what our adult Black Night looks like!

This is an electric black night female that we got as a hatchling a few months back!

Outcrossing leopard gecko morphs is important because it:
1. Maintains genetic health by preventing inbreeding-related issues.
2. Increases color and pattern variation for more visually appealing geckos.
3. Aids in conservation efforts by preserving rare or endangered morphs.
4. Improves breeding success by reducing genetic abnormalities.

Overall, outcrossing is beneficial to both the animal and the community moving forward!
