We're only days away from competition. No matter how ready or not ready I feel... I have to remember how much effort this guy has given me. At the start of the competition I had no idea what horse would be loaded in the trailer and if it even possible for us to make it this far. Day in and day out this guy has stuck with me. 💓
If you are a potential adopter please feel free to reach out to me. I'd love to answer your questions about Chance or help you evaluate if he might be a good fit for you. 🙋🏼♀️
I didn't get to ride tonight, but that doesn't mean we could pass up a solid training opportunity. Chance lives in a paddock, so getting him out and about is extremely important to me. So today we practiced ground work, water crossings, and did some body conditioning.
It's a simple and small thing, but I'm proud of it none the less. No halter, no lead, no food to steal his attention. He lets me toss a fly sheet on him, rub sunscreen on his nose, and spray product on his mane and tail. His paddock door is open, he could leave if he wants but he chooses to stay. I'm so lucky to call this wild heart my friend. Y'all, there will be some ugly tears letting him go to a new home in August.
He has a lovely trot... 😍
Chance is coming around nicely. He can be reactive at times, but overall he's extremely curious. He's lunging really nicely, walking the property, and grooming outside the stall. I'm hoping to start tying and ponying him off Cloud soon.
4/3 Update: This little guy is settling in very nicely. Last night I got my first touch and a few nose bumps. He's eating out of my hand and starting to feel more comfortable walking up to me. He slipped out of his halter last night after it loosened up. But with a little work... he quietly allowed me to get it back on. He's now learned that neck scratches are the best thing and learning to give to rope pressure. This is by far my favorite part of gentling Mustangs. 🥰
