🎃👻 Last night was a whole lot of Spooky Fun that saw our teams tackle their off lead Independence Searches and then the tricky Clusters Search. 💀🕷️

The Independence Class saw our Seniors searching a large search area with an offset entrance to test the dogs ability to move away from handler and search the area confidently We saw a great 60% pass rate with lots of dogs happy to explore. The Junior Class with the reduced search area had an awesome pass rate of 57% with dogs stepping up to the challenge and handling the search area well – with some amusing reactions to the props – especially the hairy spider LOL (not looking at you Brew!)

Our Clusters saw a hugely improved pass rate with 40% of Seniors passing, they had to find two hides in 6 quadrants with 6 objects in each within two minutes. Then our Juniors went on to finish with a 55% pass rate after searching and clearing each of the four quadrants and finding the one hide. We love seeing the handlers that truly trust their dog and go with them!

It’s our First Anniversary and we can’t wait to celebrate 12 months of crazy adventures, sniffing fun, and awesome teamwork. We look forward to sharing with you!

Saturday night saw our most recent CASSA “Western theme” competition take place!

Our Big D class lived up to it name with horse and cow distractions proving extremely popular 😉 The Seniors class had a large search area with 10 (non food) distractions throughout the search area and the hide located in a girth laying on the ground in the back corner. It had a 25% pass rate. The Junior Class with the reduced search area and five distractions, had a 30% pass rate with dogs timing out due to them thoroughly enjoying all the good smells and a good chunk of false alerts on stinky cow hair or horse hair!

The Endurance Class then required teams to find 3 out of the 4 hides in 2 minutes! There were two low hides; on the sole of the boot and the wheel of the trolley and then two higher hides on the Wanted Posters – the higher hides (both with one tip) were found most often! Great work! The pass rate for this class was 25% with most teams timing out with two hides found – still great work for so many novice competitors!

Congratulations to those that achieved their Junior titles on the night!

Saturday night saw the CASSA Olympics take place! The night started with our first "Seniors" Competitors rising to the challenge with larger search areas, longer distances to handle from in Independence and in Clusters, more objects, varying Search Area sizes and more hides! We then reset for the Juniors where our CASSA Olympic competitors took Centre Stage!

Our Clusters Classes had teams searching through themed clusters of Equestrian Boots, Sports Helmets, Golf Shoes & Olympic Sport themed containers. (The Seniors had an additional two areas of Men's Athletic Shoes and Women's Athletic Shoes). Competitors had the choice of searching clockwise or anti-clockwise with 90% choosing clockwise! We saw a success rate of 50% for Seniors and 68% for Juniors.

The Independence Class (off lead working away from handler) found the dogs tackling a Gymnastics themed search with beams, tunnels and lots of climbing obstacles that proved for a highly entertaining night! 100% of the Seniors (found the furthermost beam hide) and 55% of the Juniors successfully worked away from their handler and found the hide in the Trophy.

A highly entertaining night with lots of new Junior Titles awarded - congratulations 🏆🏆🏆

Last night with an impending storm looming, it was only fitting we had a camping theme… are you even camping if it’s not raining! To beat the weather, we ran both classes back to back starting with Distractions and then moving straight into the Endurance search.

Our Distractions Class saw the dogs working through a camp ground and having to bypass the Camp Distractions of Coal (in the short fat thermos), fresh Eucalyptus leaves (in the tall skinny thermos), toilet paper, a Big Fat (toy) Spider camping on the sleeping bag and a whole host of flashing lights. Most dogs worked extremely well investigating the distractions but successfully leaving them. With 27 of the 38 competitors receiving a pink qually ribbon 😊

The teams then moved over to the night camp where they had to work through the camp ground and find a minimum of 3 of the 4 hides. The hides were hidden in a shoe, one end of the camp stretcher, a rock and a fishing tackle box. Although a few dogs were convinced there was a hide on the fire on the wall decoration or even the moon LOL. Of the 34 entered, we received 9 successful passes with the coveted green ribbons a popular outcome 😉

For the first time – we also welcomed our first Big D CASSA titles! Congratulations to those successful in passing their 4 Junior Big D Classes!

Throughout the year CASSA will hold Novelty Challenges that test your dog in various skills that will enhance your Scent Work journey! Our last New Years Eve Night of Challenges was highly entertaining and enjoyed by all!

July will see the introduction of a SNIFF FEST! This will be held on Saturday 6th July during the day.

There are two classes available for you to choose from (you may only enter one per dog) based on your SW trial experience to ensure you set the appropriate challenge for your dog. The 9am (5 hide challenge) is suitable for dogs preparing to trial up to Advanced Level whilst the 11am (10hide challenge) is suitable for dogs competing in Advanced Level onwards.

Everyone goes home a winner with a lucky dip prize pool to choose from! Entries now open on Top Dog.

The 4th May saw our dogs and handlers going Back to School with our Independence & Clusters Classes 🚌

Our Independence Class saw the dogs working through a classroom style set up with most dogs making it to the back of the class to the big red bucket to find their hide! We had a great pass rate of 74% in this class with a huge amount of hilarity and entertainment at the various styles of searching and “encouraging” dogs to leave handlers!

Clusters saw teams having to work through 4 quadrants set up in a row with various shaped searches within each quadrant and positioning of objects. Well done to those who read their dogs well and found the target in the second quadrant! Another awesome pass rate of 79% for Clusters 😊

Great to see so many spectators supporting their friends and families and enjoying the antics! The large number of spectators had NOTHING to do with one of our first truly COLD night did it LOL

For the first time ever – we also welcomed our first CASSA titles! 🏵️Congratulations to those successful in passing 4 Junior Classes in either your Independence or Clusters searches (or BOTH!) and receiving their titles – onto Seniors Classes for you! Woohoo.

What will June bring us? Camping Distractions and Endurance, a few more titles, new classes and a whole lot of new fun! See you in June!
