Male cats can smell a female in heat 3 miles away and he will stop for every female in-between. If he's snipped he will stay closer to home and produce NO homeless kittens.
We thought some might find this interestingâŠ
âRe-Imagined Jewelryâ has been doing fundraisers for MKC since we first started. Itâs a small business consisting of just one solo artist and the entire reason the artist makes these pieces, aside from the fact that they truly enjoy doing it, is to support local non profits while bringing new faces into the businesses that graciously host a display of this beautiful jewelry. Since Re-Imagined began, sales of these gorgeous, one of a kind pieces have benefited non profits like Helping Hands Humane Society, Topeka Community Cat Fix,National Alliance For Mental Illness, Mobile Access Partnership,Cat Association of Topeka, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Shawnee County and so many others. The funds raised by the sale of Re-Imagined Jewelry are furthering the mission of these invaluable non profits.
When you purchase a pair of earrings from Re-Imagined Jewelry, you not only get to support a non profit in your community but also a small business like The Market at Macvicar - A Vintage Boutique, Giving Tree Topeka Non-Profit Donation Thrift Store and Cafe Quetzal by visiting their business.
AND!!! As if that wasnât enough, you are helping save the planet but purchasing an upcycled product made from recycled tin.
Maybe you were the lucky supporter who bought one of these pairs of earrings⊠youâd never believe the larger tin they came from!
Hope you enjoyed learning about this AMAZING small business! We thank you, Re-Imagined Jewelry and the local businesses that support organizations like MKC!
The only thing inherently dangerous about a feral cat, is uneducated opinion. They will leave you alone if you leave them be.
Itâs raining kittens (this feels quite literal). Currently, we have over 90 kittens waiting for us to open! These kittens currently have people keeping them safe and feeding them with our help. We are in the 11th hour of preparation to do our inspection for our shelter license. Itâs been a lot of hard work from a lot very kind people this year but we are know the minute our license is in hand, the real work begins. If you have ever thought, âoh I would just love to be around kittens all dayâ, well hereâs your chance! Please message us if you are interested in fostering, we would love to have you on the team!
In the meantime, since itâs raining kittens and we are so close to drowning in them, we thought a kitten shower would be a great way to add to the excitement of our opening day! Posting this now before Amazon Prime Day is over, since some items are on sale! If you have any questions about what we use any of the items for, drop a comment, we would love to share! đŸ đâ⏠đ±
If youâre out and about this week, please stop by and visit Karl The Market Cat at The Market at Macvicar - A Vintage Boutique and snag a pair of adorable earrings at our friend Bethâs booth! Itâs the booth right when you walk in! Re-Imagined jewelry will be there the remainder of July and every sale goes directly to MKC to help us save more cats!!!
Ps we are so busy getting the building finished up at the building we havenât been able to go and see our favorite Topeka cat, please give Karl a pet and head rub for us! đŸ
Go clear the shelter and help our friends at Helping Hands Humane Society! $0 adoption fees! If you can afford a donation, we highly encourage that to help them continue to save lives!
We are pulling out all the stops and getting creative to keep our colony fur balls cool. Mack Mittens was showing signs of heat fatigue but we canât pick him up or touch him enough to get his paws cool so we improvised and hosed down the whole deck and surrounding areas before dinner, no way to get to the dinner bowls without walking thru the water đ
Seemed to do the trick for several of them. We also consulted our vet and asked if it would be ok to give them some HydraCare (made by Purina) and were given the thumbs up so they have had about a half a box today!
Keep cool and help your pets keep cool!!
Itâs kitten season and itâs also hotter than hades! Please, please, please leave cats where they are if they are not injured or sick. Give your outside cats plenty of water and extra wet food. The wet food helps them stay hydrated and gives them extra calories to make up for the calories they are burning in the heat. If you can bring outside cats in, please do. If you think your cat is getting too hot, wipe their paws with a cold damp cloth, do not immerse in cold water. If your cat isnât acting right and you think it may have heat stroke, seek emergency attention immediately.
Please do not take kittens or feral cats to the shelter and for now, do everything you can to help shelters by keeping strays in your care and trying to find the rightful owner.
Helping Hands Humane Society is completely full and overwhelmed. If you are in rescue, you understand what an emotional and physical burden this is on people there. Volunteers and employees, no doubt, are going home and thinking about the cat that didnât get adopted today, the dog they couldnât shelter, the kittens they didnât have a foster for! Please be part of the solution and not the problem. And for the love of animals, PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!

Wishing you and yours a very happy and safe Fourth!
đ±SWEETIE đ±Update 7/8/24
Our beautiful Sweetie had her first procedure done today and she is resting comfortably. A couple days of rest and this little pumpkin should be able to play a lot easier without a non- working leg to slow her down. There is some slight hope that we may be able to not remove further up the leg in the future, the next few weeks will determine that. For the time being, our focus will be on avoiding infection, gaining weight and keeping her happy and comfortable! Thank you all who have donated so far! We are blessed to work with Burlingame Rd Animal Hospital and their staff!
đ±SWEETIE đ±Update 7/6/24
đ©â€ïžâđ©čSweetie went for her daily leg wrap change and check in with Dr Wacker. After discussion, weâve decided that the leg will be cut so she can walk without dragging it while we wait for her to gain weight for the full amputation. Sheâs due to have this procedure on Monday. Sheâs at 1.3 lbs as of today so we hope the amputation will take place very soon. This is only a temporary treatment to give her some mobility. She is full of energy and very much enjoys playing.
Oh for those wondering, this procedure for shorting the necrotic leg, will be relatively painless as there is no connective tissue or nerves at the incision site but will have a local anesthetic for any discomfort.
âŒïžâïžURGENT need for a kitten! đ± đââŹ
You might have seen a kitten posted in local Topeka groups needing help. She was found dangling with her leg caught in the fence. No telling how long she was there. A Good Samaritan freed her but couldnât keep her, another Good Samaritan offered to take the kitten, not knowing the extent of her injuries. After getting her, they contacted MKC for help. We took her to our amazing vets and staff at Burlingame Rd Animal Hospital and Dr Wacker jumped into action to try to save this sweet babyâs leg. Unfortunately, the wounds had been infested with maggots and larva. One wound was completely around causing a lack of nerve and blood flow to the bottom part of the leg.
For 7 days, Dr Wacker has come in, even on her days off, to change the bandages everyday, apply wound care, do hydrotherapy and red laser therapy to the area to stimulate cell growth. Unfortunately, today we had to make the decision to amputate this leg. There is no circulation of the lower leg, the leg is now completely necrotic despite our best efforts. We commend Dr Wacker for her efforts. A lot of vets would move to amputate right away without giving her a chance to save the leg, but Dr Wacker went above and beyond the call of duty to give this baby a chance. đđŒ đŠžââïž
We have named this kitten Sweetie, for her sweet disposition in spite of being put thru so much at her young 5 weeks of life. We are monitoring her daily with the vet to determine when this amputation will need to happen, in the meantime, we could use the communityâs donations to pay for this costly surgery! As you know, this is our second leg injury in just a few short weeks. Any donation is greatly appreciated! If you prefer to donate cash or check in person, just message us and we can arrange that. Make sure you know how to help your cats and kittens stay safe this holiday! Remember cats with unintentionally hurt themselves when startled or scared.
It's Monday How you doing?
If you have a pup, be prepared for 4th of July! While getting a kitten treatment, I saw that Burlingame Rd Animal Hospital has these available!
If you have indoor outdoor cats, bring the cats in for a couple days to avoid them being scared and being turned around. Give ferals a safe place to hide (their winter shelters are a great option.
Looking for a new fur baby? Our friends at HHHS Topeka may have your new fur-ever family member! They have plenty of options and will help you find the right fit!
Kitties don't care about human society's labels... but they do know good people... and MKC has a following of amazing people! Whatever box society puts you in, know at MKC, we, like the kittens, only care about the cardboard ones.
And we have been feeding lots of hungry animals! We have been distributing 100s of pounds of food to colony cats and kittens while catching and TNRing who we can catch.
We have also been assisting amazing people across Shawnee County who have found strays and are willing to care for them until we get our shelter complete! We try to help them with food, vet bills, and advice. But we are in need of your help!
Please consider donating cat/kitten food or funds for our ongoing vet bills. Every dollar helps save a precious little fluff.
We may do a lot of work with cats and kittens and we get a lot of thanks but the ones helping us save lives with their knowledge and medical care rarely get the credit they deserve. Thank you Burlingame Rd Animal Hospital for hosting a wonderful day! Thank you to all the clients and supporters who came in to say hello!

Fleas can be deadly!
Hey kitten lovers! Thought weâd update our followers with some good news!
First, let us say thank you so much to the volunteers and community members who are bending over backwards to help us in kitten season on top of us trying to get the adoption center open!! We have so many people who have been willing to hold on to and care for kittens until we can take them, we are eternally grateful!
In the past month weâve TNRâd more colony cats from our parking lot with the help of the AMAZING gals at Topeka Community Cat Fix, special thanks to Lee who is a drop trap genius! Three moms, 3 kittens and a Tom are all fixed or headed towards being fixed because of her efforts!
Thank you to our friends HHHS Community Clinic for helping us spay and neuter 5 kittens and several mommas!
Our colony cats now allow us to pet them while they eat, making it easier for us to provide flea and tick prevention.
We helped a colony caretaker with 5 pretty sick kittens and we are happy to report all are on the mend, plus their elusive sister was finally scruffed. Their bath water was some of the bloodiest weâve ever seen due to their flea infestation. Big shout out to our newest volunteer, Amanda who has been spending every Friday at the building helping with various projects and also came in clutch on a Sunday to help these very sick kittens. With her help, all were bathed, de- fleaâd, given sub q fluids, dewormed and medicated for infection!
Now for a Baby Joy update! She is doing absolutely amazing. She ended up having to wear her wrap another week after staples were removed but is now wrap free and has full mobility of her leg. She has a little fold of skin where the skin healed together, making her look like she has a little knee cap but we are hopeful over time the skin will stretch as she grows and be hardly there. Nevertheless, if it doesnât her pretty fur will cover it. Joy has the most happy attitude of any kitten weâve met, and when you consider what her little tiny body has endured- thatâs pretty incredible!!
Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure!! We would love if you would share this post and like and follow our journey!

What a lovely way to spend an evening and support TCCF at the same time! Hope to see you Thursday evening! Always so much fun!
For those who have asked and those who just like spoiling our kittensđâŠ.
Like all good kitties on Santaâs Nice List, our kittens and the colony kitties we help are hoping for something under the tree for them!
These items will help us get thru the winter months and help colony caretakers continue to care for ferals and community cats when they need some extra support!
Thank you everyone for the support and love you show our kittens and organization every day!
Hello MKC supporters!
We want to first say thank you! Thank you for being a community that doesnât complain about a problem, but instead, gets behind an organization to help solve it. Thru donating your time, money, and supplies, adopting kittens, and spreading the word you are making a difference!
In May of 2022, we formed Midwest Kitten Coalition. In the last 18 months we have gone thru tremendous growth. This year alone, we have rescued just over 700 kittens and moms. Itâs an incredible accomplishment but it hasnât been without its challenges or distractions.
As of November 19th, Melissa Sewell and Amy Minor are no longer with MKC. While we are disappointed our paths wonât continue together, we know they will continue to do the important work needed in the feline world. We wish them well in our collective goal of ending the suffering of cats.
In the last year and a half, we have learned a lot as an organization, and so much of that in just the last 30 days. The biggest lesson we have learned is that no one person can take on this enormous mission alone.
As we finish 2023 and move into the new year, we ask for your continued support. We are making important changes to ensure the longevity and success of Midwest Kitten Coalition. We will be sure to keep our supporters informed of the changes we are making, and why we are making them.
Look for an update this week on our exciting next steps! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your dedication to the tiny toed beans we serve! You are making a difference in the lives of cats and kittens all around Northeast Kansas! We wouldnât be here without you!
Be the first to know and let us send you an email when Midwest Kitten Coalition posts news and promotions. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Missing this age of fosters⊠look how little my Purrty girl was and her brothers Bentley and Benny! Rest in peace Rossi, you were one of my faves!
Dino the foster kitten in his Halloween bucket . Heâs not sure where all his candy went , but he wonât give up the hunt !
Itâs not funny but it is a little bit funny: A couple weeks ago Donk was hit by a car and the nerves in one of her legs was damaged. When sheâs a little bigger that leg will be amputated, but for now she canât feel it at all, even if she mistakes it for a toy and picks it up with her teeth đ
In case anyone was wondering what itâs like to have 8 kittens use you as a human jungle gym đ€·đ»ââïž I was gone for 4 days and tonight was the first opportunity I had to sit down to play and love on these rascals. (Donât mind the hair, they donât lol)
We hope this litter of foster kittens playing in a sunbeam brightens your day
