Cheyne's rhombic or carpet python (Morelia (Python) spilota cheynei) is one of the most beautiful pythons in Australia. It is a rare narrow-area subspecies that is distributed in the northeastern coastal region of Australia, in the vicinity of Queensland (17° 36' south latitude and 145° 29' east longitude), where it lives in the dense wet forests of the Atherton Plateau. These snakes lead an arboreal lifestyle. Deforestation and human agricultural activity in this area contribute to the decline of the already low number of these animals. These snakes are protected in the state reserve of Queensland.
