Theo is such a good girl 🥰 She has a tendency to hop up to get treats. It’s not a “problem “but it can annoy other dogs when they’re in her space. At camp, we like to hold the same standards for little dogs that we do for the big dogs. Jumping up to take a treat out of a person‘s hand wouldn’t be acceptable for a large dog so we try to clean that up with our littles too. Also, this gives us an opportunity to provide more clarity between the stay the yes and the treat.
When I’m looking to change or clean up a dog’s behavior, the first thing I examine is what I am doing. If a dog is unsure of what is expected of them, it is up to us to provide that clarity.
I’m 6 feet tall and she is like 10 inches tall 🤣 by jumping up she’s just trying to bridge that gap. It’s up to me to bridge that gap by changing when I say yes. Theo is very familiar with training and knows that yes equals treat. She is a very smart cookie!
