Winter is here! ❄️ Temperatures are forecasted to be low for the coming weeks! We recommend if your pups get cold easily to bring them to us with a coat or jacket 🐶 We will be rotating our social yards indoors as needed to keep everyone safe, warm, and dry. Important Announcement For All Pet Owners! 📯
There's a new dog respiratory illness that is making its way through the news right now so we wanted to acknowledge and pass on what we know and precautions that we're taking at the Dog Retreat Center.

Idaho (and other states) are seeing an increase in dogs who are contracting a respiratory illness. It is marked by a persistent cough (that is more of a 'wet' cough), lethargy, sneezing, and in some cases discoloration of the gums. Most symptoms are expected to present within two to seven days following exposure, but this timing may vary.

Local vets we have reached out to have indicated that they have been able to treat dogs with medication and have not seen fatalities.
For us at the Dog Retreat, we have made our staff aware and have asked the team to report any indication of cough or dogs being unusually tired to our leadership team.

We will continue with all our cleaning protocols and safety measures as well as continue to watch closely for signs and symptoms of illness.
To minimize risk, make sure your pups are up to date with vaccinations - especially those who are more susceptible due to age or preexisting conditions. Be cautious of taking your dog to places where vaccinations are not required. This time of year, there is an increase in respiratory infections so be aware that not all dogs who present symptoms will have contracted this new illness; these dogs should be taken to your vet regardless.

Daycare dogs! 🐶🐾 We have a variety of dogs who come to daycare with different needs and goals. Some are focused on socialization, others on energy management, and some come for the play! ☺️ Dogs can benefit from structured socialization in a supportive environment in a number of ways; increasing confidence, developing social skills, and learning boundaries with others!

Where Mindfulness and Dog Training Meet

We know how to speak dog- and we can teach you, too!

With a little Dog Psychology 101, we bridge the communication gap between people and their dogs, resulting in a more harmonious relationship with them. Our goal is to help dogs and people slow down, listen to each other, and cultivate more mindfulness together through the process of training.

We don’t just bridge communication gaps. We also bridge time gaps for busy people and their dogs. We’re experts in helping you meet your dog’s needs for exercise, mental stimulation, and regular socialization- no matter how busy your schedule may be.

That’s why the Dog Retreat Center offers dog classes, boarding and training, daycare and training, as well as private in-home training. We even offer reiki to aid in support of the training process with some of the more severe behavioral cases like aggression and separation anxiety.
