Meet Mika, in need of Forever Home orcRescue. Please contact owner directly, info below.
About Mika:
Mika is a beautiful and goofy 2.5 year old, 110lb Akita Malamute mix. She LOVES people (including kids) and being the focus of your attention.
She is playful for short bursts during the morning and evening - backyard chase is her favorite game - and chill during the day. She enjoys being active, exploring the outdoors, and watching the world from a high perch. She even knows how to paddleboard!
Mika is highly food motivated and has responded well to consistent training. She is house trained, knows several basic commands, happy in her crate, and shows interest in agility work.
Mika is reactive to most other dogs and her prey-drive is high. While she plays with a few select dog friends (her best pal is a male wolfhound), she needs an animal-free home and an owner experienced with dominant Northern breeds.
Mika is spayed, up to date on vaccinations/rabies, microchipped, and recently been checked by her veterinarian. She travels with her crate, backpack, and lifejacket.
Why I'm rehoming:
Mika came to me at ~5 months old, untrained and unsocialized. I have spent the last 2 years socializing and training with the help of multiple trainers. She's come a long way, but is still reactive to small-medium dogs and has a high prey drive. Mika is my 3rd Akita mix - I love the breed personality and all that goes with it. Unfortunately this time I've had to admit my lifestyle and my size are not suited to such a large, reactive, high-prey-drive dog. Mika does best with structured routines and being around people without dogs. I roadtrip frequently for work, spend a lot of time hiking trails, and most of my friends have dogs. I continue to take her with me (she even gets on the paddleboard!), but it has become incredibly challenging to manage her and be the handler she needs. Rather than leave her at her trainer/boarder all the time (although she loves it there), my hope is to find her someone with a lifestyle that is more suited to her happiness.
