I had a fabulous day today clipping 3 new horses.

The first was a young pony who had been clipped once before but apparently had a bad experience and became difficult during the clip, with a slow and understanding introduction to myself and the clippers he stood like a dream for most of the clip ❤️

Horse number 2 has only been with his new owner for a few months so this was the first time she had had him clipped. He was excellent and is now looking super smart 😍

Pony number 3 is another young girl and this was her first clip. Again, a slow introduction and she was as good as gold for her trace clip and is now booked in for lots of horsey activities with her new mum. She is a real gem (and very cuddly too) 🥰

What I love about these days is it is not just about clipping. It is working with horses to help them be more confident with the strange things we ask of them, in an understanding and empathetic way. Seeing their owners smiling with pride is just the icing on the cake. 😊

**Introduction sessions**

If you are not sure how your horse will be with clipping, or have a nervous horse I am offering 30mins introduction sessions at £20. If your horse is happy to continue with the clip then you pay for the clip, if your horse is not ready for the clip to be completed then you just pay the £20 introduction fee.

Clipped a beautiful 6 year old over the weekend. Her first time being clipped and used the battery pack so that we did not have to worry about the wires. It was great to work with her owner using an approach and retreat technique, following in the mare’s usual training patterns, to help her stay calm and allowing. With time and patience she allowed us to complete a hunter clip, including allowing the clippers right up behind her ears! We left her head on this time as the owner and I were really pleased with her progress and are going to save that lesson for another day.

I love working with horses and their owners in this way and always aim to build confidence on trust and understanding.

I have some spaces available for clipping this week and next. With such warm weather many horses are having an extra little hair cut to help them stay cool while working. Some have even been sweating in their stables/fields.

The cordless clippers came in very handy for this lad today. He is very nervous, to the point he shakes 🙁 and he needs to move his feet. One set of my clippers can run off a battery pack attached to my belt and they are perfect for situations like this, he was able to move his feet when he felt he needed to without the worry of him stepping on a cable. Much safer. With a lot of patience, and a few treats, he allowed us to get him done. 🙂

This lovely chap has been a client for many years. He is nervous about the clippers around his head, but, over time and with patience, we have built up trust and he will now let me clip right up behind his ears and half of his face. Such a brave man. 🙂

Looking beautiful at the Sunshine tour National Championships at Hickstead, after trimming and blending in his feathers, trim under the jaw line, tidy up of the mane and a ‘pulled tail’ affect. Stunning boy 😍

NB: I do not pull manes and tails. They are done using a clipper blade/clippers to give a very neat finish. The judge even commentated on his lovely ‘pulled’ tail.

Heavy duty clippers that can get through the thickest of coats and feathers. This chap had to have his feathers removed for medical reasons. He was sedated the first time, but on the second visit he allowed me to take them off without. He enjoyed a good scratch around the heels at the same time! 😀
