This is my hot pepper appreciation post! If you know me, you know hot peppers were my spicy first love ❤️. I have grown spicy peppers from all over the world in the past 15 years.

This year I grew jalapeno, habanero, and serrano, with one orange scotch bonnet thrown in for fun 😁🌶️. The plan is to grow my jalapeno and habanero every year and add in a different pepper each year.

All of the peppers were grown on my plot using organic methods.

Lots of rain this week but that didn't stop the show! Always work to be done: I planted chives, onions, collards, bok choy on Monday and yesterday we cleared some more rows and planted the rest of chinese cabbage.

Thank you to Rachael for coming out to help me yesterday💪🏾😁. I met Rachael a few weeks ago when she purchased okra from me.

I'm always looking for and open to anyone coming to volunteer at the farm. All you have to do is message me 📢.

I went home to Georgia for a week and came back to tons of peppers to harvest, the succession planting of yellow squash, cukes, and zukes are doing well.

Also decided to cut a bouquet of zinnias for myself 😁. Thanks for the bleach in the water tip!

Saw some parasitic wasp eggs on a hornworm that was on one of my serrano pepper plants.💪🏾. This is exactly what I want to see on the farm.

I attended the most amazing and delicious meal last night with great company. Ms. Leni shared memories of her life, family and food with the group. and the entire crew took those stories and made the most flavorful and soulful food and drink I have ever eaten. Who knew I would crave more split pea soup 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Thank you Leah for trusting myself, Farmer Obar and to provide some of the produce for this meal. I truly appreciate your continued support of our small black owned farms. 👊🏾💚

Some great programs are happening in Petersburg. I'm proud to be able to contribute produce! Let's eat good but also eat for our health 💪🏾

📣Today is week 5 of our 24 week program with the Petersburg Public Library, the Healthy Living and Learning Center and the Morris Cardiovascular & Risk Reduction Center to provide 25 Petersburg residents (patients of Dr. Morris) with a bag of fresh, local produce every week at the Market at PPL! 🥒🥕🍅

🌱Produce this week include farmers from River Street Market: Microgreens from Healing Hope Urban Gardens , Red Leaf Lettuce from All Good Things Farm, Broccoli, Yellow Squash, Zucchini and Yellow Onion from Hill Crest Farm and Fresh Herbs from Fox’s Garden. Other local produce includes Raspberries from Agriberry Farm and CSA. Eat the rainbow! 🌈

Finally got the chance to play with my newish toy on Sunday! 😁 I got this herbal distillation kit on sale last year with the hopes of crafting my own essential oils and hydrosol mixtures from herbs grown on the farm.

First herb up is lemon balm. It grows abundantly at our secondary site. Of course no pesticide or herbicides used at all, just good ole fashioned "let nature take its course". Lemon balm does not yield a lot of essential oils but the hydrosol still contains plenty of good properties that we want!

I typically use lemon balm in my teas and other drinks. Been studying up on all its benefits and will be making some body/room sprays soon.

Other herbs I will steam distill growing at the farm:
Mint
Oregano
Thyme
Rosemary
Basil
Lavender (next year)
