Draper-neighbors-who-don’t-like-to-go-to-the-downtown-market (most of you?) - rejoice! This Saturday we will be at the new @sandycityfarmersmarket, at the amphitheater/splash pad/senior center. Just 5 minutes from the farm, right up 13th east! Come see Whitney there from 9-1.
We’ll also be at our regular digs at the @slcfarmersmarket on Saturday and @wheelerhistoricfarm on Sunday, with heaps upon heaps of fresh, healthy, lovingly grown goodies. As always, come early for easy parking and best selection!
POV, pea picking party. Piles of pretty peas picked, plucked, portioned, and prepared to be ported to Pioneer Park, hope you come purchase and proceed to partake in these pretty petite peas! Phew! @slcfarmersmarket
Oops, we did it again! Another massive pile of these gorgeous rainbow carrots headed to the Wheeler Sunday Market. We have twice as many as last week so I’m hopeful they’ll last longer than 30 minutes!
We’ll also have a ton of greens, microgreens, and more. See you Sunday 9-1!
We won’t be setting up the farm stand here in Draper on Saturday - it’s calling for rain and if I get wet I’ll melt!
Here we go again! This Sunday is the start of our summer market season, and we’ve been as busy as a beaver in a beehive harvesting, rinsing, and packaging heaps of garden goodies.
Find us in our usual spot at the first Wheeler Farm Market of the season, this Sunday from 9-1. We’re bringing more carrots than we’ve ever brought to any market, scores of gigantic butter lettuce heads, salad mix, kales, turnips, radishes, and more.
But wait, there’s more - we have so much stuff that we’ll also be setting up in front of the farm in Draper on Saturday (tomorrow) morning, starting at 9. Neighbors, hope you come on over - 12820 South Fort Street. We will only be doing a farm stand in Draper for a couple of weekends until the Salt Lake City market starts on June 1st. Hope to see you tomorrow or Sunday so I can share some of these lovingly grown veggies with you!
Peas look good! Re: tomorrow - we will be out on Fort Street with the last of our plants starting at 9. No produce this week but if you need a couple extra tomatoes or peppers, stop on by!
I’m so tired of shuffling these hundreds of trays of plants around, I need you all to come get them out of my way and take them home!
Plant sale and pre-order pickup starts tomorrow at 9! We’ll stay out until about two, so come anytime to get your order.
Didn’t pre-order? Not to worry, we have hundreds of extra plants and boxes for you to tote them home in.
Now the bad news: you won’t want to plant out your warm weather plants (tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, basil) until this forecast cold storm passes. Keep them safe and warm until middle of next week!
In addition to plants, we’ll have plenty of spring greens, so even if you don’t have space or inclination to garden, I hope you’ll come out to the farm stand and get some fresh spring greens!
Can you tell which lettuce was planted over top of where I removed a very large willow tree last November? The soil here is non-existent, mostly just stump grindings. Just a foot away, the same lettuce is thriving. I’ll get it fixed in a year or two.
I had clouds of these tiny aphid-attacking wasps last year when they showed up on their own and saved a couple crops of lettuce. They haven’t arrived yet this year so I’m trying to jump-start the bio warfare by introducing them into the greenhouse. Go get ‘em, little friends!
Red-leaf vegetable amaranth, aka Red Callaloo. Not only is it beautiful but it’s also a superfood that thrives in the heat - just like all the pigweed (also an amaranth) that takes over your garden as a weed in the summer.
I have a small amount of this available as part of our spring plant sale - but it’s exceptionally easy to grow from seed if you prefer! It’s great as a spinach substitute for when the weather gets hot.
We have a pile of early plants ready to go. Lettuces and brassicas (kales, cabbage, cauliflower, etc.) If you want to get a jump on your garden before our May 4 plant sale, shoot me a message here and you can stop by to grab some. Or, I’ll have these at the @slcfarmersmarket for the next (and final) two Saturdays of the winter market.
All of these are also available for preorders for our May 4 plant sale if you’re like me and just not quite ready yet.
Nice haul of of these very sweet overwintered carrots! We will bring these to the @slcfarmersmarket this Saturday, along with a few greens. Hope to see you there!
Gearing up for a spring garden seedling sale on the first two Saturdays in May. Website pre-orders will open soon! As always, we’re limited in how much we can offer by our small space, but this year I should have more variety and plants than ever.
Get those garden spots ready and we will have the plants for you to fill them with in a few short weeks!
What a treat to stay warm and dry while preparing these amazing greens for market in our mostly-completed new greenhouse/farm command center.
We’ll see you tomorrow at the @slcfarmersmarket 10-2, or come find us Sunday at the @wheelerhistoricfarm Winter Market inside the education center at Wheeler Farm.
We won’t be at the @slcfarmersmarket tomorrow, because Krampus brought us this large pile of metal to kick off our holiday season, and we want to take time to enjoy it.
This is pile of metal destined to be our new heated seed starting, winter veggie washing, and early tomato greenhouse.
We plan to be back with plenty of vegetables next weekend, the 16th!
No markets for us this weekend, I’m taking my first weekend off of the season.
Except not really, I’ll have the self serve stand set up in Draper tomorrow morning at 12820 South Fort Street. Stop by for microgreens, cucumbers, and the last tomatoes.
I’ll be spending the day tearing out all of our tomato plants and hauling them off to someplace peaceful and quiet where they can finally rest. So long tomatoes, and thank you!
I set up the self-serve (self-help?) farm stand this morning, with some of the bonkers numbers of tomatoes from this week. Also microgreens, pears, and cucumbers. Come on by 12820 Fort street in Draper and take home some of the tomato bounty. Please?
I reeeeeally wanted to take the whole weekend off from markets but the tomatoes must have heard me say so - because they went bonkers this week. We’ve harvested 500 pounds of heirloom and cherry tomatoes and will have them all for you tomorrow at the @slcfarmersmarket. It’s going to be a glorious first day of autumn!
We’ll also have a pile of chard, grapes, microgreens, kale, carrots, and - you guessed it, more cucumbers than a pickle factory. Hope to see you out tomorrow morning! It’ll be coat weather and I’m pretty excited about that.
This green butter lettuce has really held up in the heat where many lettuce varieties struggle. Of course, I’ve pampered it with thrice daily mistings and shade. Each one also has a name and its own unique personality. What, you don’t do that with your lettuces?
This weekend we’ll only be at the @slcfarmersmarket, Pioneer Park Saturday 8-2. Me and my lettuce friends will see you there.
