Venus update! She is now ready for adoption! When Venus first came to us, she was just 5 weeks old, battling a severe flea infestation that left her dangerously anemic. She was weak, pale, and barely had the energy to lift her head, but with round-the-clock care, bottle feeding, and plenty of love, Venus slowly began to heal.
Now, this little warrior is ready to find her forever home. Though still small for her age (12 weeks), Venus has grown into a healthy, playful kitten with a big personality. She adores cuddles and loves to play, always curious and full of energy. Venus will thrive in a home with another young kitten or playful cat to be her buddy and help her continue learning how to be the best cat she can be.

Adopting a cat is a beautiful journey, but it’s important to remember that it takes time for them to adjust to their new home. The 3-3-3 rule helps guide this transition:
🐾 3 Days to Decompress: Your new cat may feel overwhelmed and unsure during the first few days. They might hide, be reluctant to eat, or test boundaries. Give them time and space to feel safe.
🐾 3 Weeks to Learn the Routine: After three weeks, your cat will start to understand their daily routine and show glimpses of their true personality. They may begin to realize this is their forever home.
🐾 3 Months to Feel at Home: By the three-month mark, your cat will likely feel comfortable and secure in their new environment. You’ll start to see them fully relax and embrace their new life with you.
Patience and love are key during this adjustment period. Remember, your new feline friend is learning to trust and feel safe. 💕

So what is FIV? 🤔
There are so many acronyms in cat rescue! If you are looking to adopt a rescue cat, you may come across the terms FIV+ or FIV- and wonder what they mean. Before scrolling past these cats, or diving into outdated research, brush up on the quick facts about feline immunodeficiency virus, and consider giving a FIV+ cat a chance!
FIV+ rescues tend to wait longer than FIV- cats simply because people are nervous about what it might mean for their future. FIV+ cats can (and do) live long, healthy lives once indoors. With preventative vet care, an indoor home, and spay or neuter surgery, a FIV+ cat makes for as sweet a companion as any cat.

Gordon (male, 13) and Steven (female, 12) are a bonded pair of healthy, energetic adult cats. Gordon is highly intelligent with a big, loud personality. He takes some time to trust strangers, but he’s loyal, affectionate, and funny once he warms up. Steven takes no time at all to warm up—she demands pets, cuddles, and attention from anyone who crosses her path. She’s a purring machine, but is otherwise a quiet, well-mannered little lady. Our poor Violet surprised us with a rapid decline from what we thought was a manageable road with Chronic Kidney Disease. Her numbers weren’t the worst we’ve seen on intake, but her little body had other plans. She was greatly loved and cared for by her foster and others.

🚨EMERGENCY FUNDRAISER! 🚨Sweet Ursula was rushed to the vet and is in surgery now - all symptoms point to foreign body obstruction. Ursula is a kitten who was rescued from a dangerous location. She’s been through enough in life, and we want to make sure she’s ok. Please donate and share!

Meet the gang: Raisin 🍞Bread (M), Everything 🥯Bagel (F), Hawaiian 🌺Sweet Roll (F), and Pizza🍕Bite (F)! These resilient kittens came to us in dire condition, with sealed, crusty infected eyes, making it difficult to predict their outcome. Over the course of a week, we bathed them to remove fleas, cleaned their eyes, and applied Terramycin 3x/day to treat their eye infections, all while bottle feeding them formula until they were fully weaned. They’re still receiving oral antibiotics and topical eye medication, and have gone through one round of deworming. We’re thrilled to witness their weight gain, increased interest in food, and improvement from their eye infections.
We are trying to save one of the eyes on Everything Bagel and both eyes on Raisin Bread. We are working with our vet to continue a plan for partial or full recovery ‼️

We said goodbye to our long term retiree Sloth this afternoon. She had a good run. She was pulled in from the colony looking very sick, and promptly diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and a 4 month life expectancy 2 years ago. She thrived in her last years living as an indoor feral in my cat room. We called her the “Den Mother” as she oversaw all of the hundreds of cat rescues that came through over the years. Perched up high on her shelf. Slow blinking and ever so sweet. I know RIP posts are usually black and white, but Sloth lives on at Ocean Hill Cats forever. Her little furry spirit will be watching down on all our future rescues as they enter the doors and exit with a brighter or more peaceful future. WE LOVE YOU SLOTH BABY🥲

1 month Venus update! Venus is thriving!! She’s a happy, healthy, spunky little kitten.
Arwen update! As a reminder, Arwen has cherry eye. If left untreated, her condition could lead to irritation, inflammation, and lasting damage. We’ve found a vet who can perform the surgery for $2,000, and we want to treat Arwen ASAP to relieve her pain and prevent further complications. Despite her condition, Arwen is an absolute love bug and a total sweet heart! We started a fundraiser for Arwen last week, and it’s still ongoing. Back in March, Juan was brought in when his colony caretaker saw him looking very sick. He had severe dental disease that was causing infections, making it impossible for him to groom properly. We urgently asked for your help to cover his medical bills for a much-needed dental surgery. Juan’s situation was critical: he needed additional imaging and a full mouth extraction. His condition was dire, with blood pooling in his eye and a persistent bloody nose. Dental disease may not sound severe, but left untreated, it can be deadly. Thanks to your generous donations and support, Juan got the medical care he desperately needed. After his first dental surgery, he improved significantly. Following further treatment, Juan made a full recovery! What’s even more amazing is that Juan, initially thought to be feral, revealed his sweet and friendly nature once he started feeling better. He was placed in foster care and continued to thrive. Today, we are excited to announce that Juan has found his forever home with one of Ocean Hill Cats’ very own @fk13n Thank you to everyone who contributed to Juan’s recovery. This is Gloom. Gloom’s story started when he was spotted looking worse for wear—big mats in his fur, scratches on his face, and a tough exterior. With some TLC, Gloom underwent a total transformation. He got neutered, had his mats shaved, and his bad teeth removed. And once he settled into indoor life, it was clear he was born to be a lover. Gloom is a senior cat with FIV+, and he’s looking for a patient adopter who will give him the time he needs to shine. Despite his rough beginnings, he’s a velcro cat who loves to lay on you, soaking up all the affection he can get. He’s a big lover boy who just wants a cozy place to live out his golden years. Thank you all so much for your donations towards Playtime’s medical bills. Her eye is now doing well, and she can see again! She may have some permanent scaring and her foster is applying eye drops and ointment to see if we can improve things a bit more. All in all, this is a huge success. Huge fire on Sumpter St. between Rockaway and Thomas Boyland. Two cats - Max and Dobi - have been rescued from the fire. We are looking for medium / long term fosters as the owners aren’t in a position to take them right now considering they lost their home. We need to keep the boys right now to make sure they’re ok - but we are beyond capacity, and as soon as they’re in the clear, we’ll need to move them. Reach out if you can help foster! We don’t know if they need veterinary attention yet, but we are starting the fundraiser to be ready and be able to provide for two extra animals. We are hopeful the remaining 5 cats hid or escaped.
