May 11, 2025

On Monday, May 12th, our group was following a post about a loose, skittish dog that was posted on the lost and found pages near Gagel Ave. The person said she had noticed the dog in the area since Friday, wearing a harness with a tie out attached. It was staying towards the back of her apartment complex near the dumpster area. But it would run into the woods, anytime she tried approaching.

I decided to ride out that afternoon since I had a couple free hours to see if I could help. I took my trap with me just in case. In the meantime, someone else posted a picture of him. He had managed to break free of his torn harness and was walking around with it in his mouth. Still not wanting anyone to catch him.

I arrived at the area about 2:15. Didn’t see him right away. So I decided to drive around. Then from a distance, I saw some kids playing, and a black dog happily following them. I drove over and asked the kids if it was their dog. They told me he had been following them around all morning. Several residents came outside and spoke to me and told me no one knew who he belonged to. But he had been in the area for several days.

The poor dog was so hungry. With just a few treats, I slid the leash on him and loaded him in my car. I scanned him for a chip. He wasn’t chipped and he wasn’t neutered. I gave one the guys my card in case someone came by looking for him. I took the dog home with me for a few days to keep him out of the overcrowded shelter, hoping to find a foster. Such a sweet dog, hungry and so many ticks all over him.

The next evening, I received a private message from someone saying they were the original owner. She had seen my post. She told me she had just recently rehomed him (also unable to take him back). The newest owner had sent her pics stating he was doing well, then blocked her. She sent me pics to confirm, it was definitely the same dog.
Unfortunately, she didn’t have any other contact as they had met at a nearby gas station. She too felt he had been dumped.

Thankfully, our group was able to find him local placement, who also held him for his stray hold. Keeping him out of the overcrowded shelter.

UPDATE-
We’ve recently received wonderful news he was adopted by a wonderful family that absolutely adores him! He was a staff favorite from the moment they met him.

Henry is another reminder, if rehoming your dog, to please take the extra precautionary steps to try and ensure their safety.
Please Ask for references, ask for vet references and call the vet. Ask to see where the dog will be living.

We are happy he is safe and onto a better life. Thank you to everyone that posted for help so we could help this little guy!

Jeffersonville, IN
June 13th – June 18th, 2025

Our dear friend Mychell Lawson shared that she saw a grey pitbull hanging around on the grass area just off the I-65 N ramp. She pulled over to try to get it but as soon as it saw Mychell, it ran into the brush and she had to leave to go to work so Julie made a post in one of the Indiana pages to see if we could get more sightings. Later on in the day, Rachael took a drive over but she did not find it.

The next day, (June 14th) Nikki drove through the area searching for it but did not see it.

On Monday, June 16th, Nikki went back to the area after work to look for it but still no luck and no comments or posts of any other sightings until June 17th. Someone posted describing the same dog in the same spot so that day, Nikki went over there after work, it was around 4:00 and she saw the dog but the moment the dog saw her, it ran into the woods. She left a bowl of food for it.

That same evening, after trapping another dog out in Pendleton, around 9pm… Julie headed over to the area to see if she could find it and possibly set a trap. She didn’t see it and the food that Nikki had left was not eaten so she decided to leave fresh food and a camera on it to see if the dog would show up. The dog did show up on the camera a few times later that evening and ate the food.

We really wanted to get this baby to safety so the following day, I was earliest available so around 2pm, I made my way over with the large trap and Nikki said she would meet me there after work. I arrived to the location but she was nowhere in sight. The spot was a wooded area behind the expressway near railroad tracks so I backed the truck up and unloaded the trap and set it along with the camera…then I went to the gas station and picked up a hot sausage. As soon as I returned to the trap, Nikki had arrived as well. She added the sausage to the trap and we went to sit in the car and wait.

An hour and half goes by and no sign of her so Nikki said she was going to go home to feed and let her dogs out and come back. About 20 minutes later, I saw her walking by along the tracks going towards the road so I slowly drove up to sort of block her from crossing, this diverted her to go towards the trap. I had texted Nikki to let her know she was finally around and she was already on her way back. While making her way towards the trap, a train was coming and it spooked her away. About 5 minutes after the train was gone, she showed up and was going straight towards the trap. I guess she got a whiff of the hot sausage. LOL Nikki and I sat and watched as she circled the trap once and then walked right in. Poor girl was hot and stressed.

Julie called Ronny the ACO at JB Ogle to let him we were making our way over to the shelter to drop her off. Based on comments on Julie’s post, there is possibly an owner so hopefully she will be claimed but for now she is safe, out of the heat and the storms that were coming later that evening!

6-15 Dixie Highway Lab

I was planning to meet Lisa to pick up the trap and camera from our earlier work with Coco. We decided to meet at a location where there had been reports of a dog wandering on Dixie Highway, going up and down the ramp to 265. This dog had been posted multiple times over the past few days, so we figured it was worth checking out.

When I arrived, Lisa was already there, along with another volunteer who helps with lost dogs, Charity. She had seen the dog the previous day and confirmed it was in the same spot where she had originally located it. We decided to set the trap there and let the dog find the food.

I learned that other volunteers were also setting a trap at the top of the ramp to 265, where the dog had been seen. The chances of getting the dog to safety looked positive.

We saw her come out on Dixie a couple of times, which was nerve-wracking. I found a can of dog food in my car, so I went to place it in the trap. However, I must have startled her, because she started barking. The grass was so tall that I couldn't see her, but she was nearby.

Within 10 minutes of setting the trap, she was safe!! Amanda Torres transported her to LMAS. She is in need of a foster. If you can foster please fill out the application

Coco June 15th

Coco went missing on May 30th and there were a couple look-alike chows that where also roaming but there were no real sightings of Coco for a couple weeks. Lisa asked on one of the post if there was any update and the owner and her discussed a sighting on Delton. On Sunday Lisa went to Delton and asked several people if they had seen the dog and it was discovered there had been several sightings over the last 3 days. Lisa talked with several homeowners who gave us permission to set a trap.

I rode out Sunday afternoon and talked with some people and set a trap in a yard that Coco had been coming to the last few days. Delton street was surrounded by a farm that we all suspected that Coco was hiding out at. The owners of the farm were out of town but the Grandson gave me permission to go on the property. I walked around but did not see Coco. There were so many places she could hide out the possibilities were endless.

I was waiting at the church down the road and two of my favorite dog friends showed up Lisa Devine and Safe Stacy. We had noticed a property and we were unsure if it belonged to the farm or someone else so we decided to walk down there in hopes of finding someone. As we were walking a person was coning down the driveway and Lisa realized she knew him. He gave us permission to walk the property so we did.

We still didn’t see Coco so we left to return to the air-conditioning. About 10 min later the property owner called us that Coco was just on his property headed to the farm. Coco made it close to where the trap was set but due to some miscommunication she wasn’t able to access the gate to enter the yard where the trap was located. She left that spot and took off to take a nap. We moved the trap to the farm since she ate what I left.

It was getting late and I needed to head home to feed the fam and dogs, Lisa lives right down the street so said she would get Coco when she returned to the trap. At around 7pm Coco showed up to the trap. She sniffed around a couple times, walked in a couple times, and turned around, then she finally committed to it and walked straight back to the food. She was SAFE!! Lisa transported her to the owners house and she has reported she is doing really well.

FEMALE GERMAN SHEPHERD
Industry Road - Louisville
May 20, 2025

After I was done trapping the dog in Clarksville, I contacted Isabella to see how things were going with the dog she was trying to catch near her house. She said she was worried about the trap they had because it was defective. I told her I would ride over and help. Once I arrived, I asked where they last saw the dog and Charity and I walked to where she was last seen. I peeked in and saw her ears.

We decided to put the trap closer to where she was, but that must have disturbed her. She took off running and exited the buisness. After a few minutes of wandering she returned to the parking lot where we were but went straight back to the office building. She was pacing back and forth, plotting how she would get out. I asked Isabella to come over to where I was and stand there while I went to get the trap to move closer to the dog.

Charity and I moved the trap to where the dog would have to pass it in order to get out. Once the trap was set, we left the area to give her the opportunity to smell the food. That is just what happened. She went into the trap with no issue. She is a very sweet pup who was obviously not taken care of. She was skinny and overbred but remained calm. She is at Louisville Metro Animal Services.

MALE CATTLE DOG-GILMORE
LAPPING PARK
CLARKSVILLE INDIANA
May 20, 2025

Clarksville ACO contacted Julie Foley to help with trapping a dog that they were unable to catch. Julie had some personal things going on so I went instead. When I arrived to Lapping Park I did not initially see the dog but once I left the park to look around Greentree Blvd I saw the dog running across the golf course. I watched for a second and then noticed someone following the dog on a golf cart. The dog was exhausted and the person following seemed to be as well. I was able to get the persons attention so they rode over to where I was and the dog laid under a tree.

I was able to talk to the person who disclosed they worked for animal control as well. I asked him where the dog hangs out mostly and he said basically everywhere. I decided to get the trap out of the car as the dog was in sight and was hoping for the best. As soon as I got the trap set up the dog started coming towards us. I did not have time to set a camera or even place a bowl in the trap. I threw some chicken tenders in the back of the trap and the dog was getting ready to zoom past me so I tossed some chicken his way and he stopped to eat. His nose did the rest and he walked into the trap with no issues.

We transported him to Jeffersonville Animal Shelter

Isabella called and asked if I could bring a trap to where she is. She had befriended a pup who was all about eating the sausages she had, but just wouldn’t let her leash her. When I arrived, we got the trap out, and she watched us throw food into the trap. She investigated and then went in. She was safe!
Isabella transported her to the metro, where she has since been adopted!!

POPPY
SMALL BLACK MIXED BREED
INDIANA
APRIL 2, 2025

Several posts about a loose dog had circulated on the Indiana pages. After communicating with those who had seen the dog, it was determined that he had been loose for at least a couple of weeks. People had been leaving food and trying to catch him, but with no luck. Tracy and I had been discussing the dog, and she mentioned she would come to pick up the trap after work the next day.

That morning, several more people commented about trying to catch the dog, so I cleared my schedule and headed over to the area to ensure the dog could be caught without incident. When I arrived, I saw the dog and felt perplexed because, in the pictures, he appeared much bigger. In reality, he was quite small. I wondered if it was the same dog, but since it was the only one loose, I assumed it was him. I set the trap next to the food and sat down to wait.

About 30 minutes later, the dog approached the trap and investigated before deciding to walk in. Once he was safely inside, he was understandably not happy. While I knew this was fear-based, I worried about how he would handle being in a shelter environment. After loading him into my car, I pulled over to calm him down and decided to see how he would react if I opened the trap (all doors of the car were closed). To my surprise, his whole demeanor changed, and he came out of the trap happy as could be.

Tracy said she would pick him up from me and take care of all the shelter arrangements since she lived in Indiana. I took the pup home, gave him a bath, and we spent time together until Tracy arrived. Tracy had been in communication with the shelter, and he completed his stray hold with her. The best thing that could have happened next was that Tracy actually adopted Poppy, and he is now living his best life!

DECEMBER 21, 2024

I saw a post on Nextdoor about a small dog that had been visiting this person's house for quite some time. I messaged the person who made the post, and they said it was fine to come over and help the dog.

When I arrived, the dog ran through a hole in a fence that connected to the poster's yard. I set the trap, and within a few minutes he made his way to the trap and went in. Once he was safe and loaded in the car, he became the sweetest little pup. I got him out of the trap and let him hang out with me in the front seat while I made a post and looked for a foster.
Meaghan Thomas reached out and said someone was willing to foster, so she connected us. I took the pup back to the house and hung out until the foster was able to pick him up.
Ripley completed his stray hold with the foster/rescue and was adopted by a great family!

BIGGIE

There was a post about a dog running around Lipps Lane. Bethany and Jessyca both went out to try and catch the dog and were unsuccessful. I spoke with Bethany, and it was determined that a trap was necessary. When I arrived, I saw the dog on the porch of the person who posted it. I set the trap, and a few minutes later, he made his way to it and was safe.

Jessyca had already agreed to overnight since it was late. I transported him, and Isabella met me to help me unload and get him in the house. Biggie was reserved but ended up coming out of his shell with Jessyca as his foster. He was safe and no longer freezing.

JANUARY 2, 2025

Isabella came across a dog running around an industrial area in the west end. She had tried catching the dog but was unsuccessful and asked for assistance with a trap. I arrived, and we were trying to determine where the dog went, and the only place she could be was behind or under the trash compactor. Isabella went to investigate, and sure enough, she was hiding under it.

We set the trap and left a trail of sausages to lure her out. Soon after, she appeared and headed straight to the trap. She was safe and no longer had to live the life of a Garbage Pale kid.

JANUARY 9, 2025

There were several posts about a large dog roaming my neighborhood. I had been in communication with Isabella as she was also monitoring the post. When I got off work, I drove to the area and found that Isabella and Tara were looking and had spotted the dog that had gone into the Louisville Cemetery. I ran to the house and grabbed the large trap. Tara was able to spot the dog in the cemetery, so we took the opportunity to set the trap. It was snowy and icy, but it was the only chance to get the dog.

Isabella and I dragged the trap up the snow with the help of a neighbor. The dog just stood there like a statute. We were concerned about the frigid temperatures and the ground conditions, as he was a large dog, and there were at least two feet of snow and ice. We took a chance, and it paid off. Within just a few minutes of setting the trap, he found his way and went right in.
We thought getting the trap up the hill to set it was difficult, but getting back down the hill was even more challenging; however, we made it.

There was already a call in for the dog, so once he was loaded, I transported him to Metro. He turned out to be the sweetest dog. He has since been adopted!
