A little play therapy this afternoon for Opal! She’s feeling much better and her face is healing nicely. ❤️

🐾Quinn would like to express her gratitude to everyone who sent supplies for her puppies! The whelping area and nursery are all set up and ready.

👀It appears that we are now officially on puppy watch. Quinn experienced a significant temperature drop today, her milk has come in and she is now engorged. She has been displaying signs of anxiety, crying incessantly, and sticking close to me. I have cameras set up to monitor her throughout the night, but based on my past experiences, I anticipate that the puppies will arrive in the next few days. If possible, I will attempt to live stream the delivery if I have some help.

Please help us share Lottie!! 🐾

This sweet heeler mix jumped in our van down in Louisiana when we went to save all the Great Danes! She was screaming to be taken out of her kennel and we listened to everyone watching our live stream and took her with us but now it seems that she has no adoption inquiries!

📣We are willing to sponsor her adoption fee for the right family!

Lottie wants to be working dog and although she’s just a puppy, she is showing all the characteristics for this breed. She stays in the yard without a leash and just watches over everything. She really is the best girl!

Lottie loves water and is very much a cuddle bug. She wants you in her line of sight at all times but isn’t a lap dog. She loves dogs and cats alike. When she is in the middle of playing she becomes very feisty and vocal. She L❤️VES being outside!! She also loves chew toys !!

📣Over the weekend, Opal's mass in her cheek quadrupled in size, so we decided to take her to the vet this morning instead of waiting until Wednesday. The process of getting her there was quite the orchestrated event, involving luring her into her kennel, moving her into the van, and finally taking the kennel into the vet's office. Once at the vet, I managed to coax her out of the kennel and come to me so the doctor could come in and sedate her for examination. The vet believes that it’s an infected salivary gland and decided to lance it. He decided to do it with me there so I could just take her back home while she’s still sedated so she can wake up in a less stressful environment. He did stitch it up and start her on antibiotics and steroids.

She is currently resting peacefully in her kennel, and I'm keeping an eye on the cameras to monitor her as she wakes up.☺️

And yes, we ended up in the grief room, but only because it offered the most space to move around! 😂

🐾Hey there, I'm Chief, the newest member of the DDS pack! Woof! 🐶
I'm a handsome male Great Dane, and they estimate I'm about a year old, but my actual bark-day is a mystery, so you can choose when to celebrate me! I've got the hang of potty and kennel training, so you won't have to worry about any accidents. Right now, I'm a little reserved, but my foster Mom keeps saying I'm a real sweetheart. 🥰

I mostly get along with other dogs, but I still need to meet a few more to be sure. I lived outdoors before coming to DDS, but I'm looking forward to the day when I can have a family of my own! If you're interested in getting to know me, please bark to the kind folks at DDS!

Today, Opal started pacing her kennel like normal when she needs to potty and wouldn’t just go so I decided it was time to just push her out of her comfort zone. She was not happy at first and tried to bite but sometimes it takes being pushed to see there’s no consequences by trying new things.

We just sat in the grass together for awhile and she calmed down as long as she could touch me.

One step at a time! Hopefully I can get her to walk soon but I’ll take this win though!!🎉🐾

🐾🍼Miss Quinn had an X-Ray this morning revealing that she is expected to deliver within the next week or two, judging by her size.

To prepare for the arrival of her puppies, we are starting to setup the whelping area and have set up cameras to monitor her constantly. She had complications in her previous litter where she developed severe mastitis, leading to the need to bottle-feed all the pups, so we are keeping a close eye on her health this time.

Although we cannot determine the exact number of puppies yet, the X-ray indicated a significant count, with the vet describing it as "a lot," 😂considering Quinn's last litter had 13 puppies.

In anticipation of the upcoming whelping and caring for the newborn puppies, we have created an Amazon Wish List for Quinn! 🙏

🐾Quinn and Chief just joined the DDS pack! We are headed back home from southern Missouri.

Quinn is a 3 year old female who is very pregnant! We will know more tomorrow after we go to the vet to get a puppy count and estimated due date. The dad is a fawn Great Dane.

Chief (blue) is a young male (estimated 1 year old) who is a bit shy but very sweet.

Quinn will be available once she delivers and weans her pups. Chief is available for foster/adoption now!

Meet Blondie 🐾
Blondie has lived in a barn her entire 2 years of life producing litter after litter. She had her first litter when she was under a year old and the most recent litter was just in March. Her poor body has had no time to heal until joining DDS! Blondie is now spayed and ready to retire!

Despite not ever being in a house, she is doing great. She seems to be potty trained and very calm. With a little guidance, she’ll be the perfect cuddle bug! She does need another dog for a companion as that’s all she’s known however she seems to mainly like male dogs. That could change after her hormones decrease though.

Opal wants to thank everyone for sending her and the rest of the DDS pack lots of goodies!! 🙏🙏

She is still hoarding all the babies and cries if she can’t get them in the right place so she is definitely struggling with some hormone issues but she was just spayed recently so it’s pretty normal. She isn’t hiding when I approach her and I can now just reach for her without any fear so we are making progress!

She isn’t ready for a leash yet and had no problem telling me when I tried!😂

We truly appreciate all the Amazon gifts as it really excites these babies to open packages! They just think everything is theirs 😂

🎉These last 2 boys (Pluto and Link) are going to their ‘foster to adopt’ homes today!!

It’s crazy to see what one full week of just TLC does for these babies. They went from being very emaciated and timid to loving life and being happy all the time! ❤️

🏥Pluto’s surgery went well however it was determined that his prostate was enlarged causing the urine issues. All of this could have been prevented had he been neutered earlier to prevent the surge of testosterone his body was producing. But…. he’s feeling much better and most of the urine issues have resolved!!! 🥳

🐾❤️ I’m gonna miss these sweet boys!

🙏Keep this big boy in your thoughts today!
Pluto has been having some urine issues and just acting like he isn’t feeling well so he’s having his neuter early so they can examine his prostate to make sure there’s not anything else going on. He’s been very weak at times so I also had some suspicion of back pain or just muscle loss from being so emaciated.

This is our smiler! 😂 He’s always happy so I hate seeing him not feel well. Once we figure out what’s going on, he’ll move to his new home!

The difference that 5 days of being out of a stressful shelter makes is incredible. 🎉

The last 24 hours has been a huge turning point for Miss Opal. She is now asking for attention. Every time I stop petting her, she puts her nose on me. She is moving around her pen without a tucked tail (when nobody is looking). She also has howled a few times when she needs to potty. 😂 She does not like pottying in her pen but isn’t brave enough to even try to stand up to go outside. I’ve also been able to put her eye drops in so the eye infection has mostly cleared!

But….my favorite milestone so far is her rolling on her back in her bed. 🥹This a true sign that she’s not stressed, and feels safe here. She is gaining weight every day and thriving. I just love her! ❤️😭

We have a long ways to go as she still won’t move much when a human is in the same room but I’m confident we will get there with patience.

Although she is still in the early stages of pregnancy with no significant development, we have decided to spay her this week to prevent further pregnancies. The vet feels her body hasn’t had time to heal from the last litter in March and it’s the best thing to do for her.

After her surgery on Thursday, Blondie will be ready for her FUREVER home! Despite never being in a house before, she is doing great - potty trained and calm. With a little guidance, she will be the perfect cuddle bug! She prefers the company of male dogs but that could change once her hormones settle down.
