Apologies for the haitus. This year has been very hectic as you all know.

However I am back, and have a new batch of Betta fry on the way, and some of the nearly year old girls need to find new homes.

Pictures will be coming within the next week of the sororities and individual girls available.

For now, here is a picture of the newest eggs.

Good morning my awesome followers and customers.

Getting the mollies used to human interaction. They're happy to have a bit of a nibble and say hello. Have some interesting colours coming through, especially considering both parents were golden sailfins. Will be hard to decide who to keep and who to sell when they're older. All so pretty.

Been pretty busy, sorry folks. Here is a picture of my albino sailfin pleco to make up for it.

Ramshorns snails are awesome, but they can be a little bit of a pest if you're not careful. Wild ramshorns are brown and black variations. These little oranges have thrown from my wild types, so have a bit of an experiment happening with some selective breeding to see if we can get a stronger red variation in future generations.

So this little fella is the first betta out of the first spawn to have to be separated due to aggression, but he gets along fine with his new guppy tank mates 🤷‍♀️ such quirky personalities.

Update on the newest babies. They're growing really well. (Betta fry).

13/12/2019

Have you heard of brine shrimp? Maybe you've heard of sea monkeys. Same thing.

Brine shrimp are a bit of a staple in the aquarium hobby, whether you buy them frozen or hatch them yourself. These current of activity is from freshly hatched shrimp.

Young brine shrimp are a great first food for a range of fish fry, and are a pretty balanced diet for any omnivorous fish (but these won't keep your oscar satisfied).

With the first spawn of bettas growing really well, we now have our second spawn. Dad did a great job, considering how many hatched and the fact he accidently destroyed his bubble nest.

Same parents as the first spawn.

I've spoken a little about catfish before, but let me introduce you to the small but mighty common bristlenose catfish.

You will find these intriguing little friends in most tanks you come across. They are comparable with almost all fish, are a great clean up crew, and have awesome little personalities.

They don't get as big as other plecos, and are suitable for a relatively large range of tank sizes (just don't expect them to be happy in a 20L).

Whilst predominantly vegetarian (and they love squash type vegetables), bristlenoses to require a small amount of protein, which they usually get when cleaning up food that their friends didn't eat first.

They need wood to graze on to help with their digestive process, and tend to thrive when there is steady access to fresh vegetables, hidey holes and space to explore.

The betta fry (siamese fighting fish) are colouring up nicely. These babies are just over a month old.

Some facts about betta care:

1. Bettas should not be kept in anything less than 5-10L, except in scenarios where males are separate for sale, or for transport.

2. If you don't live in a tropical (warm) climate, your betta will need a heater.

3. All betta tanks should have some form of filtration. An air pump and sponge filter is fine.

4. As a general rule, males and males and females cannot be kept together, but 5 females can be kept together in what is called a "sorority ".

5. Fancy bettas (crown tails, veil tails, half moons etc) are susceptible to disease, including finrot, if water conditions aren't kept properly. Bettas will live for years with proper care.

If you need any advice on caring for your betta, feel free to message the page.

What is my favourite fish?

Well, I couldn't pic a specific species or breed, but I L💓VE catfish.

In my personal tanks I have bristlenose plecos, albino pleco, spotted talking catfish, feather fin catfish, driftwood catfish, peppermint plecos, albino corydoras, bronze corydoras, green corydoras and petricola.

You could say I'm a crazy catfish lady.

I love catfish because they come in so many different sizes, colours and shapes. They all have their own personalities. Different catfish means different diet requirements. Some of my catfish love a variety of vegetables, others will eat small fish if they had the chance. Some are quite content shuffling through the gravel to catch whatever everyone else is eating.

Some catfish can breed in captivity, others haven't been able to yet and have to be imported. They range from super affordable to "do I want this car or this fish" level expense. Catfish are found all over the world.

They're just a fascinating fish all round, and quite a lot are really easy to care for.

TLDR; Catfish are awesome and I have lots.

If I had to pick one fish to suggest to someone who was just starting out, it would be these wonderful characters; guppies!

Guppies are one of the easiest fish to care for. They will tolerate still, low current and high current water. They will tolerate PH between 6.9-8 (though 7.2-7.6 is optimal). They eat just about anything, they breed easily and the best part is, they come in so many different colour variations.

I will be selling these eventually. The ones I will be selling are locally bred (aka bred by me). For now, they will be mixed types ( including wild and endler crosses), but in future, with enough interest, I will invest in pure strain breeding pairs.

If you already have guppies/plan on getting guppies, and just want to know more information on caring for them, feel free to message me, I'm always here to help!

Goodmorning to everyone following my page.
My morning routine usually consists of turning a few fishtank lights one, and feeding a lot of fish, and getting a munchkin to school. Daddy has school duties today though 😀.

Today I am crossing my fingers that these clouds drop some rain on us. The cool breeze is nice, but the rain water would be even better.

Of all the industries I could have fell in love with, aquaria is probably the most ironic. We live on a small property and rely on tank water, and we're in a drought, but we make it work.

Fingers crossed everyone gets a drop or few today, and I'm aiming to share some more fishy facts with everyone later today.

Enjoy the day and stay safe x.

M is for Mystery Snail.

Whether you're skilled hobbyist or just dipping your toes in, you've most likely come across Mystery Snails being mentioned.

Mystery snails are a great addition to most tanks. They are relatively good cleaning crew, and they get big enough that you'll be able to see them cruising around your aquarium.

They tolerate most freshwater conditions, but do require some form of calcium to ensure their shell stays healthy.

Mystery snails come in a few different colour types. I personally have golden and tortoiseshell (golden pictured).

Avoiding offspring also isn't hard. Mystery snails require a mate to produce, and if they do lay eggs, they are laid out of the water, so if you don't want babies you can remove the egg sac. If you decide to keep them, be prepared for a lot of little snails, that turn into big snails, taking over.

These snails will always sink for the opportunity to munch on some fresh veggies, and in my tanks are often seen pushing my bristlenose plecos off their zucchini.

Definitely a good option for any first time aquarist or for someone who just wants to add to their clean up crew.

Living plants versus plastic

Quite often in this hobby you will find yourself caught between some quirky and amazing looking fake decorations, and brilliant green and colour live options.
Life plants can strike fear into the heart of a new aquarium owner, but fear not, some live plants are exceptionally easy to care for.

I made the switch from plastic to live a long time ago, and my tanks and fish are so much better for it. Plants naturally add oxygen into the water, as well as helping with chemical process (such as absorbing nitrates) that help keep algae levels at a minimum.

There are some very easy plants to grow if you're just starting out and are a bit nervous. Elodea (Canadian pond w**d) is one of the easiest to grow, and it can be placed to grow roots into gravel/substrate, or it can be free floating.
In optimal conditions, it also produces a cute little white flower. All you need to keep elodea growing is a bit of light, and an aquarium.

Other relatively easy options include pennywort and hornswort.

The biggest thing to watch out for when buying "aquatic " plants from pet shops, is swamp plants. Some larger retailers will sell plants such as Purple Waffle and Aluminium as submersible plants. These will eventually die if kept fully submerged, and contaminate your tank. If in doubt, Google or ask a local fish shop for advice, before spending your money.

Another option is Java Moss, but be warned, it won't take long before you will be trying to move some of it on.
