Applause 4 Paws was cool, but it left something to be desired...

It's been more than a year and a half since I've posted here. I went through a lot of changes in that time and am very excited for what's next!

I will leave all my old content posted here from my first couple years of service dog training, but from here on I have some very fun and exciting content planned so stay tuned!!!

A month ago my client had two wild stubborn boys she needed help taming. Just two lessons in and she was able to take them with her to the beach and enjoy some fun in the sun with her behaved pups!! I am picky about who I take on as a client with because my program requires dedication and discipline that not every dog owner has. Natasha has far exceeded expectations and puts her heart and soul into her dogs. We need more dog lovers like her in the world!!

Peaceful morning practicing stay and heel around distractions.
Lots of dogs and people walking by, Ella stayed calm and attentive.
Getting your dog under control around distractions is the final step to getting them well behaved. The training program I teach works commands first on duration, then at a distance, and finally we teach how work around distractions.
If your dog doesnt first listen to you at home consistently how will you ever get it to listen to you anywhere else?

Coco and Ella have become best friends!
Dogs learn body language cues from their fellow house/pack mates. When I got Coco 6 years ago she was living with a pit bull that did not like her very much, since she was a puppy.
I've trained a lot of huskies and a lot of pit bulls.
Coco acted like a pitbull!
I had a lot of fear aggression to heal in her.

Weโ€™ve picked up the pace on our public access training and everywhere we go people cannot believe sheโ€™s not even 5 months old yet. This stage in her training is focusing on building her discipline around distractions. Getting her used to all the hustle and bustle of anywhere she might travel with her owner. I picked up some paracord at Michaels today and am making her handles for her to learn how to grab bottles if she ever needs to for her owner. Today was the first introduction to that- picking things besides her toys up and bringing them to me. But back to this video, her little tail wagging on the boogie board just melts my dang heart ๐Ÿ˜

THEN SHE FOUND IT POINT BLANK!
I need better hiding places. Granted, it has been three days playing this game.
Then, on the flip side of that... it's also only been three days playing this game ....lol

Anyways....on to some technical jargon: she has be able to seek things, specific items.
You build a fun game into a discipline and boom.

With everything we have going on in the world, anxiety for people is higher now than ever. People who suffer from anxiety attacks and panic attacks need help to break free of their mental state when an episode starts.
Today I am teaching Ella the basics of Deep Pressure Therapy.
At barely 11 weeks old, her response is incredible.

When you call your dogs name, they should be ecstatic to come to you!
If your dog doesnโ€™t listen when you call their name... you have lost their respect... & need to work on the way you interact with them!

They can hear the irritation in your voice for starters...
*gasp*

Today we wrapped up the first portion of Loki and Kaiโ€™s training!
As they maintain their down-stay with distractions, we took time to stop and appreciate about how far theyโ€™ve come and how much theyโ€™ve have worked over the last two months!
I couldnโ€™t be more proud!
After a few weeks of enjoying the springtime sunshine like today and practicing the distraction training that was taught today, Loki will move on to his Public Access and Task Training!
Nothing better than a calm, happy, attentive pup who is interested in what his or her hooman is doing instead of being anxious and obsessed with every thing that moves!
