Meet Fiona. She’s approximately 10 years old and spayed. She's loving to all humans she meets but adamantly dislikes, maybe even despises, other female dogs. After all, Fiona has been the Queen of her household for over eight years. She's never had children or cats in her home, so we can't speak to how she would be with the living in her space. Overall, Fiona is in good health other than a benign growth on her left leg, and her requiring 2-3 drops of tear gel in each eye a day. Outside of that, she is a healthy 10-year-old enjoying life.

We acknowledge that Fiona will be a challenging placement, but she deserves to live out the rest of her life with a loving family willing to work with reactions to other female dogs and unknown reactions to children and cats. A meet and greet could be arranged if you want to see how Fiona could fit into your family.

Meet Lucy. She's approximately 2-4 years old. She and nine other dogs were found roaming the streets in Hillsborough County. Most of the other nine were between 4 months and 1 year old. Lucy was the only purebred Newfoundland, and we believe she birthed several of the younger mixed dogs. She is now with a foster, getting evaluated, and gaining weight. She came into the rescue at only 74 pounds.

If you are interested in Lucy, please complete an adoption application at www.newfoundlandrescuefl.org/adop.

Well, we did it. This weekend, we raised an additional $1,105, for a total of $2,605. Gainbridge will match the additional money, bringing our total to $3,710 for the Giveathon event!

The Newfoundland Rescue of Florida would like to thank everyone who donated this past week and those who couldn't help us financially this time but have helped us in other ways. While we rely on donations to take care of the medical needs of a rescue, we also rely on volunteers to bring these dogs into their homes and provide them the love and care they need before going to their forever home.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Once a Newfoundland comes into Newfoundland Rescue of Florida, it gets a full evaluation. We update them on vaccinations and preventatives, do a wellness check, address any known medical needs, such as ear/skin infections, or investigate other ailments the dog may have. Sometimes, this leads to surgery.

The 501 (c)3 designation has helped us obtain discounts at vets and low-cost clinics. Every bit of savings we can find helps. Your donations matter to these dogs. Please consider donating today. We are only $425 away from meeting the matching goal.

EXCITING NEWS!

Gainbridge, one of the matching sponsors of The NASCAR Foundation NASCAR Giveathon, wanted to keep giving to the non-profits participating in this Giveathon. They have put up $77,000 in matching donations. Any charity that raises another $750+ between now and Sunday night AT 10:00 PM, will get a matching check from Gainbridge.

And here's the thrilling part: our charity will be on the number 77 car driven by Carson Hocevar for this weekend's All-Star race. And if Carson wins, Gainbridge will give another $770,000 to The NASCAR Foundation for all the non-profits participating. Your donation could be part of this exhilarating journey. Donate today!

This is huge for us. If we can raise another $750 by Sunday at 10:00 pm, we can double what we raised earlier this week. Please consider donating $25, $50, or even $77 to our Rescue. The cost of medical care is increasing by the minute. We need these funds to help these dogs. Please donate today!

Here’s a final push for the NASCAR Foundation Giveathon

Tiberius, Orso, Smokey and Daphne’s Story

A backyard “breeder” contacted us wanting to relinquish four dogs. Within 24 hours, we picked up Tiberius (the dad, age 5), Orso (2 ½), Smokey (1 ½), and Daphne (1 ½). They were filthy, scared, and didn’t know how to walk on a leash.

Once safe, our foster began working with them. The first morning, she let them out and closed the door to the kennel area. Once they did their business, they rushed back to the kennel, only to the door. Unable to return to their crate, they huddled together, not knowing what to do next. We then realized that these poor dogs were crated unless going out to potty. The foster worked with them daily to get comfortable with her and learn that staying out in the yard for a while was okay. One by one, the four began to separate from one another and explore on their own. Soon, they were playing with each other and happy to meet other people who came to visit.

Today, all the dogs are in permanent homes with adopters who have fallen in love with them. Daphne enjoys playing with her new “brother” and rarely leaves her new dad’s side. Orso has become quite the bed hog. He believes “what’s yours is mine.” Smokey loves his new brother. They play all the time in the yard without even a skirmish. Tiberius has taken a bit longer to settle in with his adopted family; however, since being neutered, he and his new brother have become a bonded pair. All are happy and thriving.

We first met Dixie when her family made a tough decision to relinquish her offspring, Ellie and Willow, due to financial hardship. A wonderful foster took both of these girls and got them the medical attention they needed, and today, they are living their best lives in their new forever homes. Several months later, we received a call about Dixie. The financial hardship became worse, and another tough decision was made.

Dixie has had an interesting journey while in foster care. Once we got her up to date on vaccines, we scheduled an appointment to get her spayed. The morning of the spay, the vet called to tell us they suspected Dixie had a heart murmur, so they were unable to do the spay. We took her to a heart specialist, and after an extensive evaluation, she was determined not to have heart issues and was cleared for surgery.

The cost of medical care for Ellie, Willow, and Dixie exceeded $3,900 and was paid for by generous donations to the Rescue. Your support makes a real difference. Be a hero and donate to this Giveathon to help more Newfoundlands like Dixie.

Dixie is still looking for her forever home. If you are interested in giving this resilient and loving dog a second chance, please visit our website to complete an adoption application. www.newfoundlandrescuefl.org

This is Blue. The left picture is when he first came into rescue and the right is just before he left for his forever home. Thanks to one of our fosters, Blue received love, lots of food, and medicated baths which helped turn his life around. The foster said he is the smartest dog they’ve ever known with a huge personality and sweet cuddles. They loved him enough to know not to foster fail. This past weekend, Blue landed in his forever home. We thank Sandy and Ray for being a part of Blue’s story. This is what rescue is all about. Donate today.
