About Tellington TTouch®️ Training Methods
Over 40 years ago Linda Tellington Jones recognised the link between physical, emotional and mental well-being while working with animals. Linda along with her sister Robyn Hood have developed the Tellington TTouch®️ Method in a positive, gentle and effective way to solve behavioural issues, increase self-confidence and self-control, enhance performance and improve communication and relationships between humans and animals. Through using a series of unique bodywork, known as TTouches, groundwork, where we lead dogs through a confidence course, we help to create physical and mental balance, through good posture, relaxation and overall enhancement of trust.
The Workshop
I will talk about the importance of observation, and what to look for so you can take note of any changes you see such as quality of coat, tension patterns and learn about hands on observations.
Then I will explain the four different families of TTouches and how they benefit the dog, allowing you the chance to try some of the TTouches firstly on yourselves and then on your dog.
Finally we will walk through a confidence course quietly together and give you ideas on how you can set up and implement this at home.
On the workshop it will be a brief introduction and we will not have time to learn everything but I do hope that everyone will go home with new tools to add to their toolbox and add more layers to their existing learning.
About me;
I’m Pauline and I am a Tellington TTouch®️ Practitioner. I started my journey over 6 years ago when my husband booked me on my first workshop and from there I was hooked. I loved the quiet, respectful way of handling dogs, of the two way communication by always listening to the dog for feedback.
It wasn’t long before I was travelling to Tilly Farm in Bath twice a year to take part in 5 day training clinics, completing numerous case histories and finally qualifying with Janet Finlay in Durham on my final 5 day clinic. However I do continue to update my learning, dog training is never ‘set in stone but set in sand’ quoted from Robyn Hood, and there is always room for improvement with new learning.
It was during my last year of training that I welcomed my Labrador girl Amber to our family. I knew from as early as the first few weeks that Amber was different from the easy going, easily trained labradors I had shared my life with previously. Her behaviour was different, I used to say she was a difficult puppy and adolescent but in fact it was Amber who found life with us crazy humans a little difficult to navigate, I knew she wasn’t developing properly and she was eventually diagnosed with moderate hip dysplasia in both hips. I must add in because it is unfair not to, but both her parents had excellent hip scores.
Through supporting her with Tellington TTouch®️ methods she leads a very happy and fulfilling lifestyle and she is very much loved. I have modified how I handle her and I am careful about the situations I put her in. A far cry from the puppy I bought to be my demonstration dog for Tellington TTouch®️, what a lot of pressure for her to live up to eh! Amber has been my greatest Tutor and I use my experiences with her to help my client’s to calm their dogs, understand each other by listening to their dogs concerns and helping their dog to move more fluently through their bodies.
