Before rehoming a puppy, reputable breeders have a veterinarian perform a comprehensive health check to ensure the puppy is in good health and ready for rehoming. Here’s a breakdown of what a vet typically checks:

1. General Health Assessment

Physical Exam: The vet will inspect the puppy's overall health, including looking at the coat, eyes, ears, nose, and mouth to check for signs of illness, parasites, or abnormalities.

Body Condition: The vet will evaluate the puppy’s body condition score, checking if they are at a healthy weight and growth stage for their age.

2. Vaccinations

Puppies usually receive vaccines for diseases like parvovirus, distemper, and adenovirus. The vet ensures that the puppy has received its initial round of vaccines.

3. Parasite Prevention

Puppies are treated for common parasites like roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms.

4. Heart and Lungs Check

Auscultation: The vet will listen to the puppy’s heart and lungs with a stethoscope to ensure there are no heart murmurs, irregular rhythms, or signs of respiratory issues.

5. Teeth and Gums

The vet will check the puppy’s teeth and gums to ensure they are developing properly.

6. Joint and Bone Health

The vet will check the puppy’s joints and bones for any signs of developmental issues or discomfort that could indicate conditions like hip dysplasia or elbow dysplasia, or luxating patellas.

7. Eyes and Ears

The vet will ensure the puppy’s eyes are clear and healthy, and that there are no signs of infections or abnormalities. The ears are checked for debris, wax buildup, or infections.

8. Microchipping

The vet will ensure that the puppy is microchipped, providing a permanent form of identification in case the puppy gets lost or separated from the new owner.

9. Health Documentation

The vet will provide documentation of the puppy’s health status, including vaccination records, deworming treatments, and any other medical history that the new owner will need to know.

By thoroughly vetting the puppy before rehoming, breeders and veterinarians ensure that the puppy is healthy, safe, and ready for its new home, reducing the chances of any health issues arising shortly after adoption.

Reading to dogs is a heartwarming and effective way for children to build confidence in their reading skills while enjoying a unique and supportive environment. Calm, trained dogs make perfect, nonjudgmental listeners.

For some children, the pressure of reading aloud in front of adults or peers can be overwhelming. Reading to dogs removes that stress, creating a safe and encouraging space where kids can practice at their own pace. Dogs simply sit, listen, and offer quiet companionship, which helps kids feel at ease. This can lead to improved fluency, comprehension, and a newfound love for books.

But it’s not just the children who benefit—dogs love the attention too! These interactions foster empathy and kindness, helping to strengthen the bond between kids and animals.

So, the next time you see a child reading to a furry friend, know it’s more than just adorable—it’s helping build lifelong skills and confidence.

CKC Golden Retrievers in SK, Canada

Welcome to K + A Goldens. We are a family run business raising CKC golden retriever puppies in Saskatoon, Canada. The puppies are raised in our home with our family. They have lots of attention, exercise, and training as part of their day.

Havens Annie is the mother of the pups. Annie is a golden retriever with a wonderful personality. Training her was a breeze, as she is highly motivated to please and learn. She loves to work.

Annie is always up for an adventure. She has lots of s***k to go tearing around at the dog park or swimming in the river, but loves to settle down and take a nap once we get home.

Annie loves people! They are her favorite thing! She loves to interact with and exchange affection with people of all ages.
